When the door of opportunity opens By Irene Joy B. Dayo
ACCORDING to Stephen Richards in his book Think Your Way to Success: Let Your Dreams Run Free, “You are essentially who you create yourself to be and all that occurs in your life is the result of your own making.” It implies that what one has become is a product of his self-motivation. The winning story of Daven Lloyd Rivera, a barista of one of the coffee shops here in Cagayan
de Oro City, is again a result of so-called self-motivation. He was a basketball player back in Cebu City. He loved the ball, the court and the hoops. However, when he came to CDO and was employed in a famous coffee shop, his center of interest changed. Coffee is where his curiosity dropped and, eventually, Daven decided to study about it. He was enrolled in Jamaican Food and Beverage Training Center,
a TESDA-accredited institution for aspiring baristas and bartenders. There, he learned a lot about the arts and science of coffee-brewing. He developed his skills he got from the training and became knowledgeable enough to become a member of Filipino Bartending Innovators (FBI). FBI is a group created for local junior bartenders in order to assemble and induce them to feature/PAGE 11

Joblessness, sustaining growth top businessmen’s concerns (Conclusion)
THE Philippine economic growth has been confirmed by two of the three international debt watchers – Fitch Ratings and Standard & Poor’s. Both credit raters have upgraded the country’s investment ratings to the much-coveted investment grade status attesting to the government’s ability to pay back its debt. Fitch upgraded the Philippines’ long-term Foreign-currency issuer Default rating (IDR) to ‘BBB-’
from ‘BB+’. On the other hand, its long-term local-currency IDR has been raised to ‘BBB’ from ‘BBB-’ with stable outlook.
SPECIAL REPORT The agency has also upgraded the country ceiling to ‘BBB’ from ‘BBB-’ and the short-term foreigncurrency IDR to ‘F3’ from ‘B’. “The Philippines’ sovereign external balance sheet is considered strong relative to A range peers, let alone BB and BBB category
medians,” Fitch said in a statement, citing a persistent current account surplus underpinned by remittance inflows that helped the country obtain a net external creditor position. Fitch’s credit upgrade for the Philippines to investment grade status was announced in March this year while S & P promoted the country to an investment grade status last May 2. Moody’s Investors Service has not yet upgraded the country’s concerns/PAGE 11
