MGB names 340 villages prone to severe flooding GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Region 12 has identified, at least, 340 villages in the region as prone to severe flooding during the rainy season. Constancio Paye Jr., MGB Region 12 director, said their latest assessment on the region’s flood vulnerability showed

that 179 villages in North Cotabato and Cotabato City, 72 in Sultan Kudarat province, 69 in South Cotabato and 20 in Sarangani are considered as flood-prone and “inhabitable during flooding.” He said such assessment was based on the detailed geo-hazard mapping

XU creates community, not just houses for Sendong survivors T

EAM managers, lead organizers and main benefactors of the Xavier University-Lumbia Resettlement Project (XU-LRP) on Saturday, July 06, 2013, held the blessing and turn-over ceremony of the permanent houses at Xavier Ecoville, the XU-led resettlement community for Sendong survivors, to their respective beneficiaries, at Xavier Ecoville in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. True to its slogan of not just building houses, but building a community, XU-LRP turned over not just concrete edifices but permanent homes to wellorganized community of 2,582 Sendong survivors (517 households), at the Lumbia resettlement after a year and a half of “slowly but orderly

construction and community organization.” The Xavier UniversityLumbia Resettlement Project is a joint endeavor of Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) and the local government of Cagayan de Oro that aims to resettle, at least, 500 families who are sendong/PAGE 11
