Business permits
DAVAO City -- Renewal of business permits here has become faster compared to last year as several steps have been taken out, an official said. Dwight Domingo, officerin-charge of the Davao City Mayor’s Office Business Bureau Division, said Thursday at the I-speak media forum that from seven to 10 steps, it now takes four to five steps to renew a business permit. Removed from the steps are the certifications from the city’s regulatory offices such as the veterinarian’s office, environment and natural resources office, and health office, among others, as they are already included in the pre-complied documents.

The result is up seven points from August’s 47% (estimated 9.5 million families) and also higher than the 52% average for 2012. The December figure is still well below the record 74% hit in July 1985 dur-
ing the final years of the Marcos dictatorship, but is substantially greater than the official poverty rate of 26.5% (equivalent to 23.14 million individuals) as of 2009. The survey results also showed that households claiming they were poor in terms of food rose to 44% (8.9 million families) from pinoys/PAGE 10

Road project
PROGRESS here will soon be visible with the construction of basic infrastructures like roads. Concreting of roads in Madamba and Bayang sections in Lanao del Sur province is expected to begin soon after acting governor Mujiv Hataman on Thursday inked a multimillion infrastructure project that targets concreting of these roads. The road project has an approved contract budget of P23, 317,970.27 which would build the roads connecting the towns of Ganassi to Tubod and Masiu to Ganassi. The deal estimates to cover at least one kilometer of the national road in the said province. “This is the fourth contract inked with prior deals for vehicle and equipment generated from savings through our Equipment Procurement Program,” Emil K. Sadain, engineer and secretary of the region’s Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
