AN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur - A new company, said to be engaged in exporting mineral products, is under close environmental watch as local officials are wary about the area where such products are to be extracted.

Mayor Jenny de Asis said a certain Sky Forward Exports (SFE), is now processing business permits with the local government, despite being under close scrutiny as its representatives could not divulge the nature of their business. “It’s a big no for me,” de Asis said over the company’s intention to operate within the gold rush area in Sumogbong River, Barangay Alegria at the foot of Mt. Magdiwata. The company is said to be

owned by Taiwanese businessmen. The mayor endorsed SFE’s letter seeking approval of their business permit to the Sangguniang Bayan for legislative action on the environmental impact if ever it engages in extracting minerals at Mt. Magdiwata. She said apart from the SB probe, the activities of the company will be endorsed to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Council for thorough discussion and immediate action FIRM | page 11
