AgSur pays tribute to former Rep. Jun Paredes The man behind the province’s thriving broadcast industry

S

AN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur - He started it all and the thriving broadcast industry in this province would have not reached its prime and maturity nowadays without his great efforts.

About three decades back, residents of Agusan del Sur, still coping from backward rural quietude, have been totally reliant on news and information from a scantily competitive AM radio stations in Butuan City dominating the airwaves all throughout the region. But it didn’t take long enough until former Representative Ceferino S. Paredes Jr., while sitting as governor of the province in the latter part of the 80s, worked hard to establish a

truly locally-based broadcast station, which is now popularly known today as “DXDA AM station 927 Khz” , run by the provincial government. As his brainchild, DXDA have turned out to be the breeding ground for homegrown local talents in the local broadcast media industry now earning a niche as respected professional broadcast journalists who already gained a lot of respect from their peers and even veteran broadcasters

in Butuan City. “We could not be what we are today, if Atty. Paredes did not vigorously pushed to totally develop the promising local broadcast industry,” said Max Tutor, station manager of DXSF 96.1 “San Franz Radio” FM, based in San Francisco town. San Franz Radio has been the major beneficiary to the initiatives of Paredes to fully support the aspirations of Agusan Communications Foundations, Inc. (ACFI) TRIBUTE | page 11
