DOH alerts public on wet season diseases

UTUAN CITY – At the onset of rainy season and with the start of classes for School Year 2013-2014, the Department of Health has warned the public against water-borne diseases and other ailments.
DOH-Caraga Regional Director Ariel Valencia urged the public to be on the alert against “WILD”, or water-borne diseases, such as Cholera, Hepatitis-A and Typhoid Fever, Influenza, Leptospirosis and Dengue. According to him, drinking contaminated water is primary means of contract-
ing cholera, hepatitis-A and typhoid fever. Valencia explained that cholera is manifested by the sudden onset of frequent painless watery stool and vomiting leading to rapid dehydration. Hepatitis-A is caused by a virus that infects the liver.
