AN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur --- Local government and police officials have vowed to catch the suspected financiers of an illegal mining operation near Mt. Magdiwata watershed.

Mu n i c ip a l Po l i c e C h i e f Eprhaim Detuya assured that they are conducting an in-depth investigation towards arresting the syndicate members and crackdown on illegitimate mining operation in this town. “Once we have enough evidence against them, we will file cases in court,” Detuya told reporters in a press briefing at the town hall where the six Chinese nationals arrested on Saturday after they were tagged as behind the illegal mining operation, were

presented to the local media. “Those responsible will be held liable for destroying the watershed,” said Mayor Jenny de Asis, as she ordered close monitoring of the influx of Chinese nationals to this town, mostly ‘engaged’ in mining operations using heavy equipment.
