AVAO CITY -- Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles (First District) on Monday has called for a deeper legislative investigation on the near-fatal disaster at the Davao City International Airport (DIA) Sunday night when a Cebu Pacific plane carrying 165 passengers overshot the runway. The Davao congressman also accused the airline company of the alleged lapses on the way airline crews handled the emergency. Nograles said that when the plane skidded to a stop after overshooting the runway, the emergency exit doors were not opened immediately

Syndicate behind series of stickup in Davao: Cop DAVAO CITY -- Davao City Police Office (DCPO)chief Sr. Supt. Ronald dela Rosa on Monday confirmed that a big syndicate is behind the series of hold-up incidents in the city. Speaking at the “Kapehan sa Davao” at SM City Davao, dela Rosa said the group is responsible for about 10 armed hold-ups in the city. He said just a few hours before

the forum, another hold-up incident occurred in a residential house in the GEM Village in Maa here where the hold-uppers successfully carted considerable sum of money and a car. ‘Let heads roll at the Davao airport - Mayor Sara Duterte

DAVAO CITY –Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has urged the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Monday to sack personnel of the Francisco Bangoy International Airport (FBIA). “CAAP should make heads roll dinha sa Davao airport management and personnel. The emergency last night was poorly managed (by the FBIA),” Duterte told davaotoday.com in a text. Emmanuel Jaldon, chief of Davao’s Central 911 and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, reported to Mayor Duterte on Sunday that airport personnel, especially from the Cebu Pacific and CAAP, “did not cooperate” with them. “When 911 and DOC called CAAP office, a CAAP personnel refrain (from) giving information and even scolded 911/DOC personnel,” Jaldon said through an incident report. airport | page 11

‘Pilot Error:’ CAAP says of Cebu Pacific runway mishap DAVAO CITY – An official of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has pointed to “pilot error” as the probable cause when the Cebu Pacific Airbus from Manila veered off the runway after landing on Sunday night at the Davao International Airport. Capt. John Andrews, CAAP Deputy Director General, made the statement in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel’s (ANC’s) Headstart . “CAAP’s initial investiga-

tion pointed to “pilot error” as the cause of the mishap,” Andrew said. The aircraft, which has remained stuck on the runway of the Davao International Airport on Sunday night has not been removed as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, leaving thousands of incoming and outgoing passengers stranded apart from economic losses that increase by the hour.
