HE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is elated with the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) upholding its earlier decision disqualifying 23 party-list organizations. “I’m happy. It is not very often that we are upheld by the Supreme Court, that there is no status quo ante order (SQA) or temporary order issued against us,” said Comelec Commissioner Christian Robert Lim in an interview. On Monday, the High Court dismissed the petitions by groups earlier disqualified by the poll body from participating in last month’s midterm elections. DAVAO CITY-- With the end of the election gun ban on Wednesday, the Davao City police reported a total of 260 violators arrested in the city. Director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Sr. Supt. Ronald de la Rosa, said Tuesday that all respondents have been formally charged in court for violating the gun ban of the Commission on Elections (Comelec). De la Rosa warned that despite the lifting of the gun ban, the police would continue to be strict in the implementation of gun control measures to keep the residents safe from the use of firearms. “It does not mean that the people can freely bring their firearms around without the pertinent documents. DAVAO CITY – The number of women occupying top posts in Mindanao has

increased from only 10 women governors, city mayors and representatives in the post-EDSA elections of 1987 and 1988 to 34 elected for the 2013-2016 term that begins noon of June 30. In terms of percentage in the last 25 years, more women are now occupying

top posts in Mindanao, from 11.5% in the 1987-1988 polls to 28.8% in the May 2013 elections, according to data on post-EDSA elected officials researched and compiled by MindaNews. Most of the women, however, entered women | page 11
