N. Korea renews threats VOL. 2, No. 277
Cagayan de Oro City
Despite ever increasing tensions on the Korean peninsula, students in the North Korean capital broke out into dance Thursday. Young people in Pyongyang wore suits and traditional dresses as they performed folk dances to celebrate the anniversary of leader Kim Jong Un’s appointment to the country’s top party post. But on state-run television, news readers issued new threats of impending war, saying “our arms are ready to fire and the exact coordinates are input to the warheads. Once we push the button, it will be fired, and the strongholds of our enemies will be turned to a sea of flames.’’ U.S. and South Korean forces
remain on heightened alert for a possible North Korean missile test, and in London foreign minister from the Group of 8 (G8) issued a communique condemning Pyongyang’s “current aggressive rhetoric.” Earlier, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said the time has come for North Korea to calm down. “This war rhetoric is not in any way acceptable, and the G8 has a united position on this. We are all convinced that this escalation of war rhetoric needs to end,” he See renews/p.11

GENERAL Santos City–– Health authorities in Region 12 urged anew residents to take the necessary precaution against the emergence of various common illnesses and infections in the ongoing summer season. Dr. Marlyn Convocar, Department of Health (DOH) Region 12 director, said the prevailing unusually intense warm weather in the
area could cause a rise in cases of infections like sore eyes and some skin diseases as well as common illnesses like cough and colds. She said these illnesses were among the six common ailments that were prevalent during summer time based on the DOH’s records. Dubbed “6S,” the agency said these summer ailments are “sore eyes, sunburn,
sipon at ubo, suka at diarrhea, sakit sa balat and sakmal ng aso.” Convocar said residents should not take sore eyes infections lightly as any scratch on the affected eyes could trigger serious complications. She said they should avoid getting sun burns as they might lead to some See summer/p.11
NTC prohibits use of unregistered repeaters CELLULAR phone subscribers in Binangonan, Rizal who used to experience weak signal and much slower internet connection can now breathe a sigh of relief with the recent move by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to ban the use of unregistered repeaters. NTC has issued Memorandum Order 01-02-2013 laying down
the guidelines prohibiting the sale, purchase, importation, possession or use of cellular mobile repeaters and portable cellsites operating on 800 megahertz, 900 MHz 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz frequency bands. The order came about after various complaints on signal interference were brought to the NTC’s attention by telecom companies.
One of the case is that of a Binangonan businessman who was using an illegal repeater to boost the signal for his trucking and warehouse business. Since his residence is in front of a Globe Telecom cell site, the device unintentionally interfered with the signal being emitted by the cell site resulting in poor reception for all other subscribers that are
intended to be served by the cellsite By complying with the NTC order for such devices to be registered with the regulatory body, the repeater would basically be given a separate highway from that of other telecom providers to avoid interference. Repeaters are not actually prohibited in the Philippines as long See repeaters/p.11
