Customs’ January collection up by 26%
THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) Collection District in Cagayan de Oro recorded an unprecedented surplus collection of P116 million in January 2013 as revenues swelled to P559.2 million, up 26 percent against’its assigned monthly collection target of P443.1 million. The district failed to meet its target in January 2012. Newly-installed District LAWYER Lourdes V. Mangaoang, the newly-installed port district collector for Northern Collector Atty. Lourdes Mindanao, explains to reporters how the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Northern Mindanao Villamar Mangaoang for managed to collect P116 million––a record-breaking January collection––despite January is considered lean month. NEWLY-installed Customs District Collector for Northern Mindanao Atty. Lourdes V. Mangaoang yesterday vowed to intensify the agency’s anti-smuggling drive as she belied reports that “oil smuggling” exist in Cagayan de Oro City. Mangaoang said the secretary of finance has earlier ordered her to check the alleged oil smuggling in the city. But she said “oil smuggling” could not be the reason for the poor collection of the agency last year as it collected a whopping P116
million in January this year. She does not consider the allegation “serious” saying the agency collected P180 million from Jetti Oil. Aside from Jetti Oil, the BOC collected P84 million from Phoenix Petroleum, the third biggest importer smuggling | page 10
