TENSIONS remains high in the town of Datu Piang, Maguindanao as dozens of families were forced to leave their homes after warring clans engaged in an intense gun battle that left four people killed. The incident happened as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) enforced six-month total gun ban ahead of the scheduled midterm elections in May. BUTUAN City––Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. has called on the public to be more alert in the fight against dengue in the wake of a City Health Office (CHO) report that 398 cases of the deadly disease were recorded last year. The CHO said of the 398 dengue cases, 65 victims
were downed by the virus in November, 2012 alone. Barangay Libertad was the most affected area with 30 cases. Barangay San Vicente had 28 cases. In an emergency meeting at his office on Tuesday, Amante ordered assistant city health officer Dr. Jesus Chui to exert all efforts to lessen if not eliminate the spread of the infection.
