MEMBERS of the influential Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in Northern Mindanao will converge in Cagayan de Oro City today in time for the religious sect’s annual Regional Unity Games. At 5 a.m. today, INC members from the provinces of Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and from the Island of Camiguin will assemble at the Pelaez Sports Complex for the Unity Run. The Unity Run will start from Pelaez Sports Complex to Bulua junction and will end at the Pelaez Sports

PAGADIAN City––Government troops killed three communist rebels in a clash in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, an army commander said Thursday. General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, said patrolling troops on Wednesday ran into a group of New People’s Army rebels in the village of Maimbong Mati in Tigbao town and a fire fight ensued. He said three soldiers were also wounded in the fighting. “Our troops killed at least 3 rebels and recovered their bodies and automatic weapons,” Cruz told the Mindanao Examiner. The fighting came a day after NPA rebels attacked a military convoy in Davao Oriental’s Lupon town and killed one soldier and wounded five others.
