MISAMIS Oriental––There are residents in the municipality of Opol, Misamis Oriental, who are aghast at what the mayor’s opponent in the coming elections said that taxes will be eliminated if he becomes the town mayor because taxes are the reason why the poor of Opol continue to be poor. For those who know, however, taxes are the lifeblood of the government and that it is impossible to do away with taxes, Mayor Dexter B. Yasay said. COA clears Agusan del Sur gov from cash advances PROVINCIAL Capitol, Agusan del Sur––The smoke has been cleared amid political insinuations from his adversaries in the heat of the campaign. Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza who is seeking a fresh second mandate in the province in the May 13 polls has been cleared from the reported unliquidated cash advances concerning his traveling expenses over the past years. State Auditor Marlon Monteclaro, the audit leader of the Commission on Audit in the province, has noted a certification issued on March 22 by Provincial Accountant Joy Lagat, which clarified that Gov. Plaza has fully settled all cash advances granted to him for traveling expenses in the previous years as of

December 31, 2012. This came up in the wake of attacks spread by spokespersons of the bitter rival camp of former congressman Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza over paid radio programs alleging that Adolph Edward and former governor now Rep. Maria Valentina Plaza has not cleared their cash advances that already reached P852 million. Lagat has clarified that the cash advances which has been slowly cleared down to now only to P94 million as of December 31 last year did not singled out the

Reelectionist Senator Loren Legarda remained on top of the people’s choice for senator in the 2013 elections as revealed in the SWS’ final pre-election survey conducted on May 2-3, 2013 with 2,400 respondents. Legarda said she is ever grateful that despite the black propaganda hurled against her, she remains number one in surveys and in the hearts of the people. “Salamat sa Diyos at salamat sa lahat ng tao na patuloy ang tiwala at suporta sa akin.
