SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur--- Reelected Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza has expressed his deep gratitude to the electorate of the province for their overwhelming support to the entire slate of the administration party which he said was a clear indication of the people’s renewed trust and confidence to his leadership. “I am deeply humbled by your unwavering support which you have manifested in your ballots in the last elections,” Gov. Plaza relayed his message to the residents of the province in an interview with Mindanao Daily News. The governor was talking to mediamen while being elated by the final results at the Provincial Board of Canvassers at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session hall which showed that the entire slate of National Unity Party which he led handily won the election amid OPENING. BUTUAN City––Lawyer Lawrence Lemuel Fortun has set a record unequalled in this city’s electoral history when he won the May 13, 2013 midterm election for representative of Agusan del Norte’s first district in a fashion so dominating over a seasoned politician, an achievement which for most Butuanons was unbelievable. For the first time in this commercial center of Northeastern Mindanao, Fortun, a son of poor parents, bagged a congressional seat in fulfillment of his late father’s dream in an unprecedented fashion. Soldier, 2 NPA killed in Surigao Norte clash BUTUAN CITY -- A soldier and two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a series of clashes in the hinterlands of Claver in Surigao del Norte, an official said.
1Lt Joe Patrick Martinez, head of the civil military office of the 42nd Infantry Battalion (IB), said the soldier from the 30th IB, whom he did not identify, was killed Thursday.
Elements of the 30th IB encountered around 15 NPA members in Pamyunon, Barangay Sapa in Claver town, he said. At around 1:30 p.m. Friday, Martinez said that
troops from the 42nd Division Reconnaissance Company caught up with the fleeing rebels in Barangay Cabugo, resulting in a 30-minute exchange of gunfire.
He said that two NPA rebels were killed in the encounter, with several more believed wounded. Martinez claimed that soldiers saw the retreating NPA rebels carry their
