CAGAYAN de Oro City Fighting for the welfare of women and the poor has always been the crusade of Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (2nd District, Cagayan de Oro), contrary to some mis-information being spread against him.

Rep. Rodriguez has filed House Bill 5956 that grants favorable working conditions to mothers in the private sector for the purpose of attending to the personal care of their infants.

Specifically, the Bill gives mothers additional

two months paid maternity leave aside from the current two.

Further, the bill gives mothers the option to extend their leave for another two months, with security of job and tenure protected, so that mothers can maximize their exclusive breastfeeding period.

Mindanao youth participates in budget consultation

CAGAYAN de Oro City The National Youth Commission (NYC) conducted on Tuesday a stakeholders’ budget consultation for Fiscal Year 2014 particularly involving the Mindanao youth.

NYC Commissioner Gio Tingson said Mindanao is a crucial area for national budget. For this year, a bulk of the national budget is for Mindanao involving public

works, classroom building and development in the area of Mindanao.

“Through this consultation process, we want to ensure that our stakeholders become aware of where and how the agency spends its annual budget,” added the Commissioner, head of the project.

Earl Saavedra, NYC commissioner representing Mindanao, further said this island wide budget consultation is very important.

“Specifically, we want the Mindanao youth to be involved by guiding us in the essential budget process and how our resources can be properly utilized as a complementary effort to institutionalize youth empowerment and development.”

He added that, this bottom up budget approach allows the youth to be knowledgeable about the programs, projects and services that are given budget

The youth in Manila has different concerns compared to the youth here in Cagayan de Oro, he said.

participation. We are focusing on crafting the project and by the end of the year we want to integrate all projects.

This was the second series of consultations that the NYC implemented with its stakeholders regarding its budget planning, in light with the Commission’s campaign and efforts towards Participatory Leadership and Governance.

youth groups in NYC said Tingson. As an inter-agency coordinating body, we create partnerships with other government agencies.

The National Youth Commission as the voice and advocate of the youth is the lead government agency created under Republic Act 8044 or the Youth in Nation-building Act in charge of policy formulation on youth development and youth participation.

Underage prostitutes?

(First of two parts) Extreme poverty must be sweeping wide in some areas in the Philippines that drive some underage girls into the practice of the oldest profession in the world -- prostitution.

According to a TV news story in the American continent, young girls in their tender age of 14 and 15 have been charging foreignertourists the amount of one thousand five hundred pesos to perform sex.

It was not mentioned that these practices are taking place in Metro Manila and nearby cities but surely is happening in the former American bases like Subic

Of course we knew for a fact that prostitution is anywhere especially in big cities in Luzon, the Visayas and in Mindanao which is abundant but having minors involved in this business is

just terrible.

This is definitely outrageous, really a crime that is so shameful and unacceptable.

I condemn the hardest way the parents of these girls for their lack of responsibility in the handling of their children.

This thing cannot happen if the parents are concerned so much of their children.

There should be strict discipline in the home and watching closely the children twenty fours a day.

These underage girls belong to the secondary schools. They should be watched especially the time frame of their studies as well

as the time when they are supposed to be at home.

Where are the parents?

I even supposed they allow these girls to make money the easy way to help support the family.

A house can never be a home unless the parents are doing their best to take care of their children.

Otherwise, the kids should be taken away from them and let the parents rot in jail for negligence and irresponsibility.

I call the attention of our leaders especially the legislators to draft laws that will punish harshly the parents of the girls who engage in prostitution at an early age. (ben-emata.com)

Pray in the Name of Jesus Christ

THE Book of Leviticus tells this: the high priest alone was allowed to go into the Most Holy Place of the tabernacle or temple—which pictured entering into the direct presence of God. And even he was commanded to go there only once a year—on the Day of Atonement (cf. Leviticus 16).

But today, because Jesus of Nazareth died for our sins, true Christians have direct access to the Father.

Instead of fearing death in coming before God, we are rather instructed: “Let us therefore come boldly

Fairytale or Fact?

Think a minute…

There was a man who thought he was going crazy, so he went to the doctor for an expert opinion. The doctor examined the man and told him: “I have to agree with you. You’re crazy.” But the man got angry and said: “I want a second opinion!”

So the doctor said, “OK, you’re ugly too.” Sometimes we don’t want to hear the facts.

A survey in America

showed that 90% of Americans say they believe heaven is real, but only 25% of those same people say they believe hell is a real place. That’s like saying you believe there is light but no darkness, that there is right but no wrong.

Common sense tells you that doesn’t make any sense! Just saying a place is not real doesn’t make it true. It’s like saying the North Pole is not real just because we don’t think so.

The fact is Jesus Christ talked about hell much more than he did heaven. He said hell is a real place that’s full of the worst pain and endless suffering for everyone who rejects His good life by choosing to live their own way instead of the true way He created us to enjoy.

Jesus repeatedly explained that the reason He came to give His innocent life was to pay the penalty for all our sins. God the Son came to

ILIGAN City - Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz believes that the Sabah problem can be solved by diplomacy and dialogue.

He suggested that mediators be brought in, if only to hear both sides of the God and be a liar too.

Remember, since God is perfectly good and pure, it’s simply not possible for Him to live together with any kind of wrong or evil.

Otherwise, He wouldn’t be God! Just like light and darkness cannot be in the same place together. But if we want God to leave us alone, He will. After all, He’s the One Who gave us our freedom to choose in the first place. He will never force us to love Him and live the way He created us to enjoy.

Jesus said that even though our body dies, our soul will live forever—either in heaven or in hell. So it’s up to us to choose whether we want Jesus’ gift of forgiveness and way of living, or our own way. Heaven or hell. But you’re the only one who can send yourself to hell, because God’s already done everything He possibly can so you don’t go there.

RDC-10 accepts private sector applications

CAGAYAN de Oro City The Regional Development Council-10 (RDC-10), the highest planning and policymaking body in the region, is now accepting applications for membership representing the private sector.

Applicants for a private

sector representative (PSR) must be Filipino citizen, of legal age, not disbarred by law to participate in government and the electoral processes, and a resident of the region in the last three years.

He/she must be willing and able to participate in all RDC activities with a

proven track record in socioeconomic development in the region.

The applicant must also not hold any government position and must not receive any remuneration from the government while serving as PSR to the RDC. In addition, he/she must be nominated by an accred-

ited Private Sector Organization (PSO).

Interested are expected to submit the required documents on or before May 3, 2013.
