BECAUSE of its proximity to Metro Manila, the city of Cagayan de Oro has become one of the favorite tourist destinations in Mindanao.

Raised during the CAAP consultation in Cagayan de Oro City, last week, were the existing traffic congestion particularly between the city and the new airport, the change in flight schedules from 9:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon only and the ‘weak’ security measures with the lack of necessary navigational facilities at the new airport.

This was the meat of the presentation of Regional Director Catalino Chan III of the Department of Tourism (DOT-10) during the maiden episode of the BWM NewsCon, March 18, Monday.

“Cagayan de Oro City is also nearer to famous tourism areas, like Cebu, Bohol, and Boracay even as it has a good connectivity making her very ideal and hazzle-free destination,” he said.

The city lies alongside with other equally worldclass destinations, like Camiguin, Bukidnon and Iligan, as well as with Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental, which are near to Dakak and Dapitan.

He also noted the connectivity of Camiguin to Cebu and Bohol, with fastcrafts and roll-on-roll off vessels now serving the Jagna-Camiguin-Cagayan de Oro route, five times a week.

Comelec continues media accreditationg

OZAMIZ City - The Comm i s s i on on E l e c t i ons (Comelec) is still in the process of accepting applications for media accreditation relative to the May 13, 2013 national and local elections.

Upon accreditation, media representatives shall be issued strictly nontransferrable media cards, which should be personally claimed and worn prominently whenever covering or observing a Comelec or electoral event, said Atty.

Stalin A. Baguio, provincial election supervisor (PES) of Misamis Occidental.

Meanwhile, Comelec Resolution 9649 provides that duly accredited domestic and foreign media shall be allowed maximum access to all stages of the electoral process, subject only to conditions essential for the protection of Comelec personnel, property, and privileged information.

As such, the following rules of conduct shall be obser ved by the media representatives: Not more than three media representatives shall be allowed inside the polling places at any one time.

Upon entering the polling places, media representatives shall immediately

introduce themselves to the members of the Board of Elections Inspectors (BEI) by presenting their Media Cards.

On the other hand, any media representative, found to be engaging in unprofessional activities deemed disruptive of the conduct of voting or canvassing, such as, conducting interviews inside the polling place or canvassing center shall have their Media Cards immediately revoked.

It also includes engaging in partisan political activities and distributing campaign materials and any behavior intended to

unduly influence the choice at the Office of the PES, of voters, such as, but not in the case of the local limited to, directly trying to sway the voter or speaking for or against a candidate.

Application forms for accreditation may be downloaded from the Comelec website: http://www. comelec.gov.ph and at the website of the Comelec Education, Information Department (ComelecEID), http://www.comelec. wordpress.com.

Earl Nightingale once said: “Before you can achieve the kind of life you want, you must think, act, talk and conduct yourself in all of your affairs as would the person you wish to become.”

In the psychology of money, the behavior of spending is no exception.

Your money mindset is what you become.

People are generally classified into three equations of behavioral spending patterns.

Equation A: INCOME – EXPENSE = SAVINGS. Most individuals belong

The net deficit becomes a debt that often grows out of proportion in due time. This is your usual impulsive credit card shopaholic whose motto is “shop-till-you-drop.” Credit card expenses steadily pile up and balloon out of proportion. When we hate someone, we hurt ourselves far more than the person we’re trying to hurt. That’s why when you’ve been hurt by others, a bad memory is your best weapon to stop it from hurting you more. Forget it, and get on with your life. “Never carry a grudge, since it only weighs you down while the other guy is getting ahead. You’ll never get ahead while you’re

You’ll reach your goal of success much quicker if you forgive and forget your enemies. Getting even with someone just puts you on their level; but if you forgive that person, it puts you ahead of them. So make peace quickly with your enemies. “Some people forgive their enemies—but not until they’re dead and it’s too late.”

Remember, people need love the most when they deserve it the least. It takes a much stronger person to forgive. A person’s strength is measured by how many times he can forgive the

same person. You see, when our heart is full of kindness, there’s no room in it to hold a grudge. Hating someone is easy. Anybody can do that. So if you want to be unhappy and miserable, go ahead: don’t forgive that person who wronged you.

But don’t forget, “Anger and unforgiveness is like fire: if you hold on to it, it will burn you.”

However, “If you choose to forgive someone, you’ll be setting a prisoner free… and discover the prisoner was you!” Yet real forgiving takes your Maker’s kind of love and strength. So

why not ask Jesus Christ to forgive you for all the ways you’ve hurt and wronged Him? Then, you’ll have His power to forgive others like He did for you. Just Think a Minute…

MisOcc completes P22.24M GAD projects

OROQUIETA City - The provincial government has completed 33 projects under the Gender and Development (GAD) Program with total funding of P22.24 million in 2012.

Of this amount, P12 million or 53.97 percent was used for the financial support of the health insurance, thru the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.

(PhilHealth), of identified poor women and their families, Governor Herminia M. Ramiro said.

The GAD Accomplishment Report for 2012 submitted by the Governor, also showed that P2.0 million or 8.99 percent have been used for the scholarship program of the poor and deserving students, while P1.4 million r 6.29 percent was used for the procurement of drugs, medicines and other medical supplies.

They committed to do all the necessary efforts to make peaceful and honest elections possible not only in the province but also in the entire Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), during the Lanao del Sur Stakeholders Conference for Peaceful, Free and Fair 2013 elections held recently, here.

In a one-page declara-

tion, they vowed to actively participate in the process of ensuring peaceful and honest elections through voters education and monitoring of the compliance of political candidates and their supporters to electoral laws, as well as, of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in administering fair and impartial elections.

They further committed to responsively engage media institutions to undertake responsible reportage of the elections in the province and the region.

Meanwhile, they appealed to political groups,

electoral aspirants, and their supporters to help ensure honest and peaceful elections.

While challenging Comelec to administer the elections with full integrity, fairness and impartiality, they expressed confidence to the security sector in securing the 2013 elections.

Barangay food terminal MOA signed CAGAYAN de Oro City – The Memorandum of Agreement covering the implementation of the Barangay Food Terminal Project in Cagayan de Oro City was confirmed and ratified by the 16th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas yesterday morning.

The agreement was signed by Mayor Vicente Emano, on behalf of the city government; and Regional Director Lealyn A. Ramos of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 10.

The the project aims to make available and acces-

sible quality products, such as meat, poultry, dish and vegetables at low prices to the marginalized sector of society at the barangay level; and develop alternative market for the farmer’s produce through direct marketing thereby increasing farmers’ income.

It also seeks to ensure a stable price and supply of food commodities in the market through the establishment of a Barangay Food Terminal.

It also envisions to encourage barangay empowerment by creating employment opportunities, through livelihood

and establishment of small food packaging and food processing center for agribased products to increase productivity and income of the barangay residents and strengthen the partnership of the different stakeholders in the delivery of basic services at the barangay level.

Pursuant to the MOA, the DA-10 shall facilitate the training of BFT personnel on proper food handling, techniques, operation and maintenance of the cold storage facility, as well as the business management and operational system of the BFT. It shall likewise estab-

lish direct market linkages between the BFT and DA accredited poultry, meat, fish, fruits and vegetable producers or suppliers; provide and procure the identified equipment, as counterpart and provide technical assistance in the maintenance of the cold storage facility.

For its part, the city government shall provide counterpart funds for the establishment of the equipment and handling facilities, allocate a working capital to be used mainly for the procurement of food products; manage and operate the BFT project in accor-

dance to the project plans and hire, appoint or assign qualified operators or workers who will be trained on proper food handling, storage techniques, operations and maintenance of the project facilities, among others.

Under the MOA, the DA shall provide equipment worth P200,000 per site composed of chest freezers, digital weighing scales, cash registers and an initial operational capital of P100,000 per site and funds for the BFT building.

Pursuant to the MOA, the equipment to be provided in the opening of

the BFT proect shall be procured by the DA-10 while the amount of P2.4 million for the initial operational funds and for the building construction will be transferred to the city government in a manner consistent with the purpose of the agreement subject to existing standards of accounting and auditing laws, rules and regulations.\ The ordinance was favorably endorsed by he committees on agriculture and fisheries and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Annie Y. Daba and Ramon Tabor, respectively.

AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT BENIGNO SIMEON C. AQUINO III His Excellency: Greetings from the water consumers of Cagayan de Oro! Most residents of the city are acutely aware of the growing shortage in potable water supply in many of the barangays where some have running water only from 9 to 12 hours a day.

What is ironic is that this shortage is happening not because water supply is insufficient to meet water demand but because the COA (Commission on Audit) has disallowed Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) from issuing purchase orders for additional volume of treated water which are readily available from its bulk water supplier.

We are aware that an additional volume of at least 40,000 cubic meters of treated water a day is available now to COWD which would instantly resolve the water crisis but is prevented from doing so because of the COA disallowance.

However, we, the long-suffering consumers of the affected water-short areas, believe that the President of the Philippines is cloaked with sufficient authority to resolve the legal impasse in the interest of the suffering general public.

We appeal to you as the country’s Chief Executive to take the necessary measures to allow the consumers to access this available water without prejudice to whatever future judgment the courts may render on the legal constraints imposed on COWD by COA which has been in an impasse for over two years now since December 7, 2010.

Water is a human right and not a privilege. We, the water consumers of Cagayan de Oro, need you to resolve the legal obstacle preventing the water from flowing to our households, and deliver a free flowing supply 24/7 that the system is technically capable of doing right away despite the COA disallowance.

We trust this matter merits your soonest and immediate attention. Water is life. Give us today what’s rightfully ours.
