CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Pilgrim Christian College has launched an educational benefit program that seeks to help strengthen Community Journalism. The program includes tuition

fee discounts ranging from 25 to 20 percent for enrollees in its Bachelor of Arts in Communication program.

Mr. Pio D. Baconga, President and CEO of Pilgrim Christian College said the program is a token of the school’s support for

the cause of a strong and vibrant community press. “Through this program we hope to provide more communication graduates who have the passion to work in community journalism where they are needed most,” Baconga said.

Under the program, alumni of Pilgrim Christian College will get a 25 per cent discount when they enroll in the Bachelor of Arts in Communication course while entering freshmen and transferees enrolling in the same journalism /P5

Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas adopted a resolution strongly supporting Tulong Kabataan, which is a counterpart of concerned youth in response to RSVP (Response of Survivors and Volunteers for Pablo).

According to the convenors, almost three months after Typhoon Pablo, there are still millions of survivors who are in dire need of food and emergency assistance especially in hardest hit areas of Compostela Valley, Davao and Surigao del Sur. Tulong Kabataan aims to foster volunteerism

and consciousness-raising among the ranks of the youth through the advocacy.

The campaign is composed of five major components: relief, rehabilitation, medical mission, reforestation and environmental education.

MAYOR Vicente Y. Emano said a P55-million irrigation project will be implemented this year in Barangay Balubal.

The mayor said initial funds of P10 million from the National Irrigation Administration has been approved for the purpose.

The city has a counterpart fund of P2-million for the

project, he added.

The mayor is optimistic that the irrigation project will boost the productivity and income of farmers in the hinterland barangay.

DOLE-10 conducts Child Labor Knowledge Sharing System training

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 10 will conduct an orientation seminar and hands-on training on Child Labor Knowledge Sharing System (CLKKS) on March 26 at Dynasty Hotel, here.

Lawyer Johnson G. Cañete, DOLE-10 Regional

Director, said the one-day activity aims to improve collaboration and data sharing among partners and advocates of child labor programs.

The CLKKS is an information technology tool for sharing relevant real-time data, foster communication, improve program monitoring and automate child labor case referrals.

It could be used in monitoring the programs of the

partner agencies with an inventory of services being implemented by various service providers, he said.

The DOLE-10 hopes that this web-based system will provide some of the basic steps that will enable them and partner agencies realize the vision of a “Child Labor Free Philippines” as embodied under the new Philippine Program Against Child Labor. (APB/PIA10)

Ides of March TURNING back the pages of history, Julius Caesar was assassinated on his way to the Roman Senate on the 4th Century. It happened on March 15th after he was murdered by Brutus and company in front of the statue of Pompeii. The murder was planned that even Sooth Sayers foresee it happening. It was recorded as the “Ides of March” the first political murder in the early civilization. Parliamentarians have debated but without accepting its legality called it luck and necessity to transform an empire into a republic. Speakers one after the other, declared inside the presidio and asked the Romans to lend their ears and listen to the sins and evil that Caesar’s did.

After the death of Caesar, a republic was born which is a transactional layer of leadership between collective groups of leaders chosen at large by the majority. That was the basis centuries later where Abraham Lincoln phrased his famous address at Gettysburg of a

“government of the people, by the people and for the people” of America which has remained a misnomer in a democratic country like the Philippines who copied this form of government from USA. Many of our leaders think like Americans, dress, eat and speak like the Thomasite’s who sets forth in this country in 1903 but lack the discipline and firm tenacity of an American to govern. Remember the speech of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon during the Commonwealth of the Philippines Inauguration as he declared, “I would rather see the Philippines run like hell by Filipinos than govern like heaven by the Americans”. Quezon was true to his form and that is what we are getting today as the prize of independence?

Comelec aims for zero failure of elections

Refund is another option preferred by 58% of Filipinos.

For most Filipinos, the prices of candles, coffee, detergent, laundry soaps and salt in the past 12 months may be considered reasonable, with 52% to 73%, saying such commodities are reasonably priced.

In contrast, less than four in ten Filipinos say the prices of processed milk, bread and canned fish in the previous year were reasonable.

Half of the respondents regard the prices of noodles and toilet soap in the past 12 months as reasonable, while 61% view that last year’s prices of condiments were reasonable.

The prices of other basic and prime commodities probed in the survey were found by the majority to be unreasonable.

A huge majority of Filipinos (86%) cites television as their source of information regarding consumer welfare and proteclion where media sources are concerned, while majorities cite family members and relatives (59%) and friends and neighbors (52%) as interpersonal sources of such information.

Only 26% of Filipinos have heard, read or watched something about the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

The survey was based on a multi¬stage random sample of 4,800 respondents, aged 15 years and over.

The sample respondents were randomly selected from all regions in the country, except Autonomous Region of

He said the Comelec En Banc has also decided to download the investigation of violations to the provincial election supervisor to avoid the clogging of election cases.

When riding a taxi alone, always be at the rear seat of the vehicle. Immediately lock the doors at the rear and passenger seats.

Avoid using your cellphone while walking and while riding a public transportation to prevent being a victim of snatching.

Prepare your fare prior to boarding any kind of public transportation so you don’t have to take out your wallet and possibly expose the other contents of you bag.

respect for human lives when political leaders resort to violence and dirty tactics to win an election. How many is contemplating of doing so?

The stakes are of course high in every elected position in the government. The price of power is the source of money and authority which becomes a license to accumulate wealth and built political dynasties.

Once they are there, there is no turning back until their dreams could turn dust to gold that they cannot bring to their graves. Why do we wallow in this quagmire that has entangled political leadership in this country only to a few families in succession? The problem of course lies among our leaders. A constitutional prohibition on political dynasties is enshrined in the 1987 Constitution. But after five elected Presidents and the 15th Congress, it has outlived the fundamental laws of this land, no one dared and nobody ever sponsored a law prohibiting political dynasties because it cannot be approved in a dynasty filled Congress, anyway!

The ides of March in Rome happened in the 4th century for the simple reason that the Romans do not want to be ruled by an Empire.

Can it happen again on the political exercise of May 13, 2013, to bring finish to the empire and dynasties which multiplied and overstayed in Philippine politics? It can only be done with more luck and intelligent issues that must be understood by the electorate.

ILIGAN CITY - The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) has finally been given the opportunity to interact with institutional health care providers and health care professionals as PhilHealth has now made it’s zeal to deepen its relationship by creating a new team called PhilHealth Reach Out. Around 60 participants from the Philippine Hospitals Association of Iligan City and Lanao del Norte Chapter were the first to be given Reach Out orientation by PhilHealth-

Region 10 on March 12 at Maria Cristina Hotel, Iligan City, said Ayesah M. Macumbal, officer-in-charge, PhilHealth-Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO), Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.

The chief of hospitals, budget/accounting/finance officer, medical director and hospital administrator were among those present in the event, added Macumbal.

The Reach Out team will ensure that the participants are informed about new policies and allows immediate feedback through interactive lectures and open forums, that they are heard when they have

complaints or suggestions and to make sure that old policies are reformed and streamlined in line with PhilHealth’s mandate of attaining Universal Health Care.

This will also serve as a venue where they could inquire unclaimed checks and identification cards.

In addition, a booth for application or renewal of accreditation and member data record (MDR) issuance will be available on site.
