Import-export cyber hacking worsens Friday

AGAYAN de Oro City - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-10) has warned entrepreneurs over the worsening cases of cyber hacking, especially on transactions among Filipino importers and Chinese suppliers.

DTI-10 Officer-in-charge Linda O. Boniao said, these cases usually divert Filipino importers’ payments to the hacker’s bank accounts.

Your whole flow of delivering the news also depends on the script you did. Wherever you go, news awaits you. At the simplest form of activity or event, news can be made from it. In the making of the news, it is also required to investigate, confirm and reconfirm the gossips you hear for safety reasons. I do treasure such lessons, as I start my broadcasting activities. And this could really be memorable to me, as a I take another step further.”

RDC endorses water quality management area

TANGUB City - The Regional Development Council of Region 10 (RDC-10) has endorsed the proposal to designate a Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) in the water systems of Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon.

Designating a WQMA enables the formulation of focused interventions or

actions designed to address specific water quality issues of the area, thus ensuring that Republic Act No. 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 is enforced and water quality is improved.

To be known as the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon River Systems Water Quality Management Area, the proposed

WQMA, comprises 2,024 sq. km. with a perimeter of 219.215 km., that covers the eight bodies of water, such as Iponan River, Cagayan de Oro River, Umalag River, Bigaan River, Agusan River, Alae River, Cugman River and Macajalar Bay Coastal area within Cagayan de Oro City.

The WQMA will include the geopolitical jurisdictions of CDO, Bukidnon and the

towns of Talakag, Baungon, Libona and Manolo Fortich, and Misamis Oriental and the towns of Tagoloan and Opol.

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 9275, directs the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in coordination with the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to designate certain areas as

WQMA using appropriate physiographic units, such as, watershed, river basin or water resources regions.

As proposed, the WQMA will be managed by a governing board chaired by DENR with representatives of mayors and governors of member local government units (LGUs), relevant government agencies, duly registered non-government organization NGOs, water

utility sector and business sector, among others.

The project responds to the region’s development strategies as indicated in the Medium-term Regional Development Plan for 20112016, particularly, along the areas of water resources conservation for possible water access, sanitation, agriculture, industrial, eco-tourism uses, and biodiversity preservation. BJMP holds firing proficiency training

MAL AYBAL AY City Twenty-nine officers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have hurdled the Firing Proficiency Training (FPT), recently.

Jail Sr. Insp. Guy Jason Reyes, Malaybalay City jail warden, who supervised the aptitude exercise, said this would hone the shooting skills of the jail officers, as criminals are also becoming sophisticated nowadays.

“We truly had hard times in our finances and groundwork preparations for this FPT, but with the support of Malaybalay city government, were able to rush through the activity before the Election gun ban takes effect”, Reyes said.

He pointed out that the training is one of the urgent needs of the jail officers as this will help them in tackle crises situations such as breakouts or in dealing with

Camiguin completes P20M infra

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin - Farm-to-market road (FMR) projects worth P20 million have been completed in 2012, as well the first phase the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management C ouncil (PDRRMC) building and the rehabilitation of the Lawigan Water System.

The said amount came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Provincial local Government Unit Fund (PLGU).

The new FMR projects were in Barangay San Isidro, Sitio Datag to Sitio Mapa, Benoni to San Miguel and Sitio Langkangan of Mahinog town.

For Mambajao, it includes the concreting of the Agoho-Catubli Road, Sitio Lumand FMR, Sitio Purok 2 FMR, and the improvement of shoulder road in Lakas-Pandan junction.

The project likewise covers the concreting of Langkangan road in Catarman town.

Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo said that aside from the road and drainage development project, the PLGU has lined up the construction

of an additional ramp in Benoni port in the amount of P80 million.

He said flood control projects will also be initiated in all five municipali-

ties through PDAF and that they have likewise outsourced an P35 million development fund for airport flood control.

Who do you enjoy being with most? We usually enjoy friends who make us feel accepted the way we are.

When we’re at our worst we still know that they accept us, even if they don’t approve and agree with what we’re doing. We enjoy friends with whom we can be totally “real” and honest.

Pretending to be someone you’re not gets tiring.

When you talk with your close friends, do you use formal words you would use with a high government official, minister or pastor?

Of course, not! With your close friends and buddies you can just be yourself and have honest, heart-to-heart

talks.

You see, that is how God wants you and me to talk with Him. God wants so much to be your best friend.

Everyday He wants to have a good, heart-to-heart talk with you. God doesn’t want to hear big, fancy words and formal prayers. He wants you and me to be ourselves with Him. He wants us to tell Him how we really feel inside, when we’re happy, sad, even angry.

When Jesus Christ taught His closest friends how to pray, He used the everyday street language of His culture. Jesus did not teach us to say formal, memorized prayers using big, religious words. In fact, Jesus shocked

all the religious leaders when He said we should call God “Dad.” But the only way to be on speaking terms with

God is you must ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and take full charge of your life everyday. Then as you live for Jesus everyday, He will start showing you what your father in heaven is truly like and how much He loves you.

Jesus will show you how to live His successful, right way for the rest of your life.

Jesus will always listen and understand how you’re feeling and what you’re facing in your life. So this moment, why not talk to Jesus and ask Him to take control of your heart and life? Then you can enjoy talking with Him everyday as your best friend and Lord who loves you more than anyone does.

LaNte towns receive P64M for PAMANA

CAGAYAN de Oro City - Six municipalities of Lanao del Norte have become recipients of P65 million, under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program for year 2012.

The beneficiary towns are Kauswagan, P9.6M; Kolambugan, P8.8M; Poona Piagapo, P8M; Munai, P12M, Salvador, P12M; and Tangcal, P12M. The province will also receive P1.6M. Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) X Director Rene K. Burdeos said, such fund will transcend to development projects in the community, anchored on one of the objectives of the program, which is to reduce poverty and vulnerability in conflict-affected areas through sustainable rural development, community infrastructure and focused delivery of social

services.

The six beneficiary municipalities were approved by the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), per PPOC Resolution No. 07 series of 2012.

The cheques were handed over by Director Burdeos to Governor Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo.

PAMANA is the national government’s peace and development framework program. It is implemented in areas affected by conflict and communities covered by existing peace agreements.

Its main strategy is to bring back government to PAMANA Areas, ensuring that the

Adiong Jr., provincial board members, municipal mayors, municipal treasurers, election officers and officials from the regional and provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec), city and provincial schools division superintendents and

teachers, security forces, and representatives from civil society groups.

Gracing the summit, Comelec Commissioner Elias R. Yusoph challenged the political aspirants to become Muslim leaders not just political leaders.

A symbolic burning of

bad practices also highlighted the election summit to manifest the commitment to get rid of malpractices allegedly done during the past political exercises in the province.

The event, with the theme “Strengthening People’s Voice through Electoral Reform and Transparency in Lanao

del Sur and Marawi City” was organized by the Kasalimbago Task Force.

The task force, chaired by Provincial Election Supervisor Nasib Yasin and vicechaired by Assemblywoman Samira Gutoc-Tomawis and BGen Daniel A. Lucero of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, was formed following the success of the general voter’s registration in the ARMM. NPA kills CAFGU in AgSur By 2nd Lt. Hazel A. Tabago PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – An off-duty member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed by four armed men, believed to be members of the New People’s Army, in Purok 12, Brgy. Awao, Sta. Josefa town, mid-afternoon of January 25, this year.

The victim, CAA Danilo Bacudan, was with a certain Darwen Laspinas when held at gunpoint by the ‘rebels’, who ordered them not to run or else they would be killed.

Not heeding the order by running towards his residence, CAA Bacudan was fired upon by the armed men hitting him in his right leg and head causing his instantaneous death.

Col. Romeo Gan, commander of the 401stInfantry ‘Unity’ Brigade, Philippine Army, said he was deeply saddened by the death of one of his CAFGU members.

“Allow me to express my

sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of CAA Bacudan. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort and solace that we in the 401st Brigade will continue to conduct our mission in rounding up these NPA criminals in the soonest possible time,” he stated He condemned such “criminal acts of the NPAs, who violated the laws of war by firing upon an unarmed person and killing someone who is already wounded instead of helping him and giving him first aid.”

CAA Bacudan’s family is now left to fend for themselves and provide for their basic needs “that is why I appeal to the residents of Brgy Awao to cooperate with us and with the local police and help us gather pertinent information regarding the perpetrators of this crime so that his family may get justice in his death,” Col. FBC needs 80 new call center agents CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – One of Cagayan de Oro’s fastest growing call centers turned two last January 28 and marks the milestone with a series of events this Sunday, February 3 aimed at recruiting 80 new agents in the next six months.

“We will start with a thanksgiving mass at San Antonio parish church in Nazareth, followed by a motorcade around the city then a variety show at the SM Cagayan de Oro Rotunda featuring our employees,” said Niño Mae V. Duran, FBC Business Solutions Corporation’s managing director for Asia.

A. Juarez, the company’s first call center was started in Gusa opposite CU Medical City and opened a new annex a year later at the site of the former CU Call Center.

“FBC’s niche is to be the default call center and outsourcer for small businesses,” noted Mr. Yap, FBC CEO. “There is a huge gap in the market serving this demographic -- large centers don’t want to deal with small projects, and most smaller centers are not adequately funded nor do they have the infrastructure required to minimize downtime.”

Its clients are mostly small to medium sized companies for which it provides customer inbound services such as customer support (phone, live chat, and email) and outbound services

such as sales (investments, insurance), surveys, appointment setting, and lead generation.

“Our bread and butter is supporting entrepreneurs scale and grow their businesses, creating much-needed jobs both in the Philippines and the United States along the way,” Mr. Yap adds.

The young company is going full-tilt with its new hires after signing on several new large clients, as well as expansion of existing clients. Besides FBC Business Solutions, there are five other call centers based in Cagayan de Oro, two in Iligan and another in Bukidnon.

“The Sunday show will just be our first in a series of events we’ve planned to recruit the number of per-

sonnel we need to meet our client’s increasing demand,” said Ms.Ju arez, vice president for operations. “We will have two job fairs this year in March and October, but will also be participating in numerous other recruiting events and activities.”

The company has managed to maintain a remarkably low turnover rate compared to what has been experienced by similar firms in the country and abroad.

“That’s because we always tell our staff they will grow with, and not for the company,” said Mr. Duran.

“Provided our employee is qualified for a promotion, he will always get it because we prioritize internal over external recruitment. We believe that starting with the right culture and environment has helped us keep our employee turnover quite low.”

Ms. Juarez believes man-

agement style also plays its part. “We manage our operations hands-on and on a personal basis with a touch of Family Culture. We encourage them to think of their workplace as their second home.”

CAGAYAN de Oro City - The Artsada, a team of budding visual artists in Cagayan de Oro, is celebrating the Arts Month, with various charitable art activities.

As a kick off activity, Artsada will be showcasing the skills in sketching and painting through an onthe-spot demonstration, in collaboration with NCCA Northern Mindanao, at Limketkai Mall on February 01, 2013.

The artists will be performing portrait sketching for mall goers for free.

Some of them will also be demonstrating painting using various art media.

The highlight of the celebration is Artsada’s

participation in the PVAF 2013 in Pagadian City, with other local artists, and in the national artfest. This will provide them the opportunity to showcase their “obras”, together with other artists from other regions.

On top of these events, Artsada will be joining in various art gigs as part of the month long celebration: Art Exhibit at 3D Exhibition Area on February 18-22, 2013 in partnership with Liga ng Barangay, Art Display at City Tourism Showhouse with Poetry Reading in collaboration with XU Devcom and City Tourism Office on February 15, 2013 and various art exhibitions in the city.

The Artsada artists are

hopeful that the celebration will rouse the interests and appreciation of the Kagayanons especially among the youth to stimulate creative young minds, engage in arts, thus, removing the opportunity to be drawn in destructive habits like alcohol and drugs.

The NCCA Northern Mndanao Visual Arts is supporting the Artsada’s advocacy. Mr. Rhyan Casino, the NCCA NM VA Coordinator, appreciated the group’s initiatives in adding more vivacity in the arts scene in the region.

Artsada, as an informal art group of volunteers, intends to make a difference in the art industry in the city by bringing art education

into the community particularly through sharing of technical knowledge in basic drawing and painting among the children and youth.

The team’s planned projects for the year are being firmed up in collaboration with the City Tourism Office for Culture and Arts and private sectors to help promote the City’s arts and culture.

The team is composed of Bo Daclan (contemporary), Gieward Hullagno (water color), Darryl Salcedo (papercut) and Marigold Cherie Ramos-Garrido (pastel art).

Artsada is encouraging Kagay-anon artists who have the heart to share their talents at the community

level and eventually develop future artists from among the youth sector.

Recently, Artsada welcomed new members to the team to develop more
