CAGAYAN de Oro City The Cagayan de Oro Port Management Office of the Philippine Ports Authority has launched the Port Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (PSHEMS) for containerized cargoes. It was held at the base port of the city, GAD Hall, E.S. Baclig Administration Building, Port Area, Macabalan, this city. “Today we are launching another project, the PSHEMS. Tt is encouraging to note that in the Philippines, there are only two ports which were identified where PSHEMS shall be implemented, namely in Cagayan de Oro and port of Iloilo, ”Atty. Edgar C. Pilar, port district manager of PDO Northern Mindanao,

Engineer Renato Cardinal, program manager for the Partnership in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), said PSHEMS is a management system based on specific requirements set by the PSHE Management Code developed by PEMSEA. He added that the PSHE Management Code aims to provide port authorities or any other company operating within the port, whose activities may have an effect on the health and safety of people, environment, cargoes and port installation, with a voluntary standard against which to measure their performance of with regard to quality, safety and port /P5

CAGAYAN de Oro City - The proposed tapping of private security guards, as force multipliers was discussed before the city council committee on police, fire and public safety, recently. This, along the continuous effort of the city government to strengthen the peace and order drive in the city. The meeting was attended by officers

of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COPCO), headed by Police Sr. Supt. Graciano Mijares, and representatives from the Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators, Inc. (PADPAO). The committee chair said that “while there were several engagements in the past, the committee wants to be involved in an undertaking towards drafting an

agreement in a manner agreeable to all.” On the part of COPCO, P/Sr. Supt Mijares informed the committee about the existing Memorandum of Agreement between the Philippine National Police and the PADPAO Region 10 Chapter to this effect. However, he said, the agreement has not been implemented since. city /P5
