CAGAYAN de Oro City – Knowing the security features of the new generation currency is one way to avoid receiving and passing counterfeit bills. Senior Research Specialist Dexter Erick A. Demafeliz of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Cagayan de Oro Branch said the new generation currency uses a different kind of paper, with serial numbers, embedded security fibers,
watermark, concealed value and security threads, among others. Speaking during the “Ang Rehiyon Karon” radio program over DXIM Radyo ng Bayan, Mr. Demafeliz stated, the new currency bears four security features that are highly visible to the public and recognizable by professional cash handlers or bank tellers, with the use of specialized equipment. He added, the upgrading of
security features of the banknotes is a normal practice of the BSP to protect the integrity of the currency. According to him, the new design is user-friendly and allows easy identification since the size and the dominant color of each banknote denomination are retained. The face value of the banknotes on the front side of the currency are also intaglio-printed to give an embossed feel that will help the visually-impaired differenti-
ate each denomination, Mr. Demafeliz further said. It does not only pays tribute to Filipinos, who played significant roles in moulding the nation’s history, but also highlights the world heritage sites and natural wonders of the country.
