ALL CLEARED – Roads surrounding Plaza Divisoria in Cagayan de Oro City are now all cleared of street and sidewalk vendors, as newly-installed City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno orders the suspension of the controversial Fridays and Saturdays night market and café. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Department of Health - Center for Health Development for Northern Mindanao (DOH-CHD 10) has launched the Red Orchid awards for local government units (LGUs), government agencies and government hospitals, strictly practicing no-smoking inside and outside offices. Doctor Ellenieta HMV N. Gamolo, DOH-CHD 10 assistant regional director, said that “such organizations are our modern heroes in ensuring that the environment we
are living in is tobacco-free.” The DOH Red Orchid award that started in 2009, highlights the achievements in tobacco control by LGUs, government hospitals, government offices and DOH Centers for Health Development. Winners are judged based on the strength of their comprehensive efforts to implement a 100% Tobacco-Free Environment using the World Health Organization MPOWER initiative. SOME 160 elementary and secondary schoolers and teachers have hurdled the training on Radio Broadcasting at BusinessWeek Mindanao Media Center, Saturday, June 29. The day-long capabilitybuilding activity covered such subjects as Knowing the Medium, Radio News Scriptwriting and How to Become a Good Broadcaster, among others. Sessions were facilitated by this writer, in his capacity as broadcast training director of BWM Media Center. Participants were from Kalilangan National High School, Bukidnon National School of Home Industries, Talakag NHS, Corrales NHS, Consolacion ES, Tablon NHS, Pedro “Oloy’ N. Roa NHS, Lapasan NHS, East City Central School, Suntingon ES, Iponan NHS and Bulua CS, among others. Also held at BWM Media Center on same date were trainings on print newswriting, editorial writing, feature writing, sports writing, layouting, cartooning, photo journalism and copy reading, among others.
