Abductors free social worker in Basilan Zambo City public school collects fees?

BASILAN – Military and police authorities have assured the safety of government workers and civilians against kidnappings in Basilan.

This assurance came after gunmen freed last week a social worker, Jennelyn Luna

Enpera, who was abducted in the town of Ungkaya Pukan.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Enpera was freed unharmed by her captors in the town of Sumisip.

She was in-charge of the government’s Pantawid Pamilya that provides financial support to poor families for the children’s

health and education.

Earlier, armed men intercepted a fishing trawler off Lantawan town and seized its skipper, Lucio Gonzales, who is based in Zamboanga City.

Police said at least a dozen gunmen in two separate speedboats were involved in the abduction of Gonzales.

Basilan is one of five

provinces of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

It was not immediately known whether rebels were behind these abductions.

Provincial government officials rarely release any statement about local abductions and are hardly accessible for media interviews.

hours of daily brownouts before the May 13 mid-term polls.

The electric consumers here are again set to experience three to four hours daily rotational blackout after enjoying an uninterrupted power service for the past few days due to the holding of the mid-term elections.

The Korean businessmen have told Lobregat that solar energy is cheap but the initial investment to construct the power plant will involve a considerable amount.

They are scheduled to present Friday, their proposal for the construction of a solar power plant to the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) Board.

Lobregat said he wel-

comed the Korean businessmen’s interest and the idea of the solar power plant.

However, he said he informed the group that the construction of a 100-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Barangay Talisayan, 26 kilometers west of this city, is already underway.

He also said that the energy that would be generated from a solar power plant may not be sufficient to provide the power demands of this city, which currently peaks at 80-MW and is expected to increase in succeeding years.

Meanwhile, he said the city government does not discount the possibility of having a solar power plant for renewable energy supply in the future. (PNA)

A government school in Zamboanga City is collecting various fees from high school students despite existing Department of Education (DepEd) order against any form of contribution during the enrolment period.

A local television station reported that collection of various fees was occurring

at Don Pablo Lorenzo High School.

Among the fees being collected from students are for identification card pictures, funds for the Parents-Teachers Association, and for various projects of the Supreme Student Government.

The fees ranged from P50 to P300 per student, but never covered by any official receipt. This was

also recorded by the TV11 news crew.

One collector explained that such contributions were not compulsory, but a sign on her table reads “required.”

The report said the school principal refused an interview requested by the television news, saying she was not available.

Assistant Schools Superintendent Pedro Natividad, who was apparently

disgusted over the report, vowed to investigate the case.

The DepEd said only fees may be collected on voluntary basis for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts membership fees (P50), Philippine National Red Cross (P35), Anti-TB fund drive (P5), school publication (P60 for elementary students and P90 for high school student).

farm-to-market road concreting, concrete overlaying, re-blocking and asphalt overlaying (P826.81 million), with a total length of 179,690.18 linear meters; Completion of 363 flood control projects (P383.56 million); 91 bridges, box culvert and spillways (P235.67 million); and 402 school buildings projects with 637 classrooms (P839.8 million), including 463 repaired classrooms; One-hundred 30 barangay halls, multi-purpose centers, daycare centers, health centers and hospitals (P268.19 million); 79 water system projects, in cooperation with the Zamboanga

City Water District (P161.27 million); Mayor Lobregat’s administration has also constructed 41 covered courts, waiting sheds and basketball courts (P46.03 million); 233 site development and other structures (P501.95 million); and 36 health and social service facilities, (P58.15 million).

He also stressed that sound fiscal management is one legacy that he can proudly hand over to the next administration.

“Prudent and judicious allocation of the city’s fiscal resources and spending the funds more wisely and sensibly

has made Zamboanga City one of the most stable local government units in the country today,” he said, citing the 2010 Report of the Commission on Audit, covering 112 audited cities, placing Zamboanga City No. 6 in terms of assets, No. 5 in terms of government equity, No. 10 in terms of income and No. 5 in terms of net income.

Toyota Sales Up 33% from Previous Year Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. experienced a 33% increase in sales during the first four months of the year, compared to the same period last year. Centrist Democrats prexy re-elected to the House CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - In the Second District of Cagayan de Oro Rufus Rodriguez, president of the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines, has been re-elected into the House of Representatives.

It is the first time in Philippine history that a representative of a dues-paying member based political party with clear ideological orientation has been elected into Congress. Rodriguez defeated his opponent from UNA with 80% of the total votes.

The Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines is the youngest national political party of the country.

COWD constructs CdeO to host Greeneration Summit additional wells

THE Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) has contracted two additional production wells in Sitio Calaanan, Barangay Canitoan and in Barangay Macasandig.

This, as it seeks to address the city’s growing demand for water, specially in areas like Calaanan where relocation sites abound.

The projects bring to 27 the total number of COWD production wells where CDO residents and establishments source their water requirements.

COWD also purchases treated water from a bulk supplier to augment its existing supply. Drill-

ing has already started and is to be completed in 90 days.

Completion of the two wells is expected to bring an additional supply equivalent to 100 liters per second or about 15% increase in COWD’s production capacity in the West Service Area and another 20% in its Central Service Area.

Even as it continues with its rehabilitation from Sendong with grants from both the Office of the President and JICA, COWD continues to undertake measures to improve and expand its services consistent with its mission and vision.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Energy (DOE) has offered power generators to Mindanao electric cooperatives that do not have embedded generators.

This offer was made

by DOE Secretary Carlos Jerecho Petilla during the recent power forum held in Zamboanga City, participated in by some 400 delegates from all over the region.

“The generators will be able to provide power supply immediately, while we are waiting for new capacities to come online by 2015 and onwards,” Secretary Petilla said.

In same occasion, he assured the cooperatives that the government is finding the most viable options to keep the capital expenditures of acquiring the generator sets, as minimal as possible.

In this regard, the office of Representative Beng Climaco has formed a technical working group to carefully study the impact of this and the

other options presented during the forum.

“The people of Zamboanga should be supplied with the information regarding the real costs that each option would entail. We reiterate our support for the options presented by the government,” she said.

Similar power forum was conducted in General Santos City, providing a venue for more discussions on the proposed solutions to the power crisis in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Secretary Petilla noted that the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) has a contracted capacity of 18 megawatts from the Iligan Diesel Power Plant (IDPP).

It was reported that ZAMCELCO is now enjoying part of such contracted capacity, subsequently reducing the city’s rotating brownouts from eight to six hours daily. Aniya, may nabasa siyang teknolohiya sa Davao kung saan ginagawa nilang school chairs ang mga basurang plastik.

Sinabi ni Villar na nagtungo siya sa Davao para saksihan kung uubra ang teknolohiyang ito.

“Gumagamit ako ng ‘biodegradable wastes’ sa ak-

ing ibang pangkabuhayang proyekto. Masaya ako nang makita ko ang teknolohiyang ito dahil maaari na rin nating iproseso ang ‘non-biodegradable wastes’ na tone-tonelada sa Metro Manila,” paliwanag pa ni Villar.

Ayon kay Villar, ipinagmamalaki niya ang proyektong ito hindi lamang dahil sa kabuhayang ibinibigay sa ating mahihirap na kababayan kundi ang kapakinabangan nito sa kaliksan.

“Sa pagpro-proseso ng hindi maiiwasang mga basurang plastik upang maging kapaki-pakinabang na school chairs, hindi lamang natin nililinis at pinangangalagaan ang ating kapaligiran kundi nagdudulot pa ito ng kabuhayan sa mahihirap at sa mga manggagawa sa factory na nagproproseso ng basura,” paliwanag ni Villar.

Ipinahayag ni Villar na ang plastic wastes recycling factory sa Ilaya, Las Pinas City ay ‘pilot project’ ng Villar Foundation.

Military, DILG help solve transmission line problem in Mindanao As an extension of their service to the country, members of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade (MIB) of the Philippine Army in Iligan City rendered their assistance to solve Rightof-Way (ROW) issues concerning the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP’s) transmission lines in Balo-i, Lanao Del Norte.

T h e m i l it a r y u n it , through the directive of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 10, coordinated with more than 20 owners of the land traversed by the Agus 2 – Kibawe 138 kilovolt (kV) line of NGCP. Through this effort, the military aimed to convince the owners to allow NGCP to trim the trees that are breaching or about to breach the ROW clearances set by the system operator.

As reinforcement, the 2nd MIB also conducted information dissemination among the Municipal Peace and Order Council of Baloi on the ROW problems and how these adversely affect the service delivery of NGCP. Earlier this year, NGCP expressed its difficulty in maintaining the said transmission line due to the intentional planting of trees

under the facilities which caused 20 outages in Lanao as of May. “NGCP is thankful that the DILG and the military are helping curb ROW violations in Lanao Del Norte.

We hope that this would be the start of a smoother operation and better community relations for us in the area,” NGCP Spokesperson Atty. Cynthia P. Alabanza said.

The Balo-i Substation and lines connected to it, including the Agus 2 – Kibawe 138 kV line, are crucial to the Mindanao grid because they carry the bulk of electricity produced by the government-owned generator Agus Complex.

The said hydro power plant supplies 500 megawatts or around 60% of Mindanao’s power demand and 200 MW of which passes through NGCP’s Balo-i Substation and lines emanating from it.

NGCP is a privately owned cor poration in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. NGCP transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines Stronger transmission for a stronger nation.

For the FUNDS of it all!

EVERY candidate should be a sore loser unless he chanced upon being a candidate and didn’t really care to win or lose.

And should this be the case he or she has no business running for any position.

Rejection is difficult as it is without ones contestants playing with the exercise for the fun of it.

And worse, for the funds of it! In any contest be it for political positions or a beauty contest unless one gives it all his or her best with an investment be it for monies, blood and sweat as the saying goes - it is not feasible to even aspire the position in the end.

To be sore at the end of the contest is all but human.

In the Philippines the moniker “no one loses, only cheated” can at times have relevance especially in a contest where the players are excluded from the processes on the evaluation of winners and losers.

Case in point; assume players and voters who are amputated from the exercise once the ballots are sucked by the pcos machine.

Imagine an Ateneo La Salle game at the dome where the game is to be held and you are denied entry.

You get to hear all the sound effects of the game but are restricted to watching it.

In the end someone walks out and says; La Salle won.

Would you sit down and accept all the same and worse if you bet Ateneo who you firmly believe should have won due to your perceptions on the strength of the players?

Candidates stay in the contest until Election Day because they believe they have a good chance of winning.

And when told by the results on-line, to fail miserably is outright rejection to the nth degree. “I was cheated” is what we can

What is a Good Person?

IS there a check list to become a good man or a woman? It is great to have one of course.

A recipe of sorts to provide instructions that we could follow to ensure we were being “good person”.

Few things in life really work that way. In fact, even recipes followed exactly don’t always turn out.

They fail to account for effects of the weather, slight differences in ingredients, variance in oven temperatures, or a number of other factors.

And “good” is in the taste buds of the eater. So what does it take to be a good person?

Many will say that it means to be religious in going to church, reading the Bible everyday , praying at least twice a day, tithing, helping the poor, supporting a missionary, evangelizing, and the like.

These are all great activities for Christians, but they

are not what being a good person life is all about.

For me, in order for one to be called a good person, first he needs to be made new in Christ and his relationship should be restored with God. To become a good person is about getting to know God, enjoying Him and bringing Him glory.

It is true that when we know God certain actions will naturally result. Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:14). But before that He said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. . . . Remain in me, as I also remain in you.

No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. . . . This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Obedience—living the “good Christian” life—flows from a loving relationship.

And obedience helps us remain in God’s love and therefore experience His joy.

Being a “good person”

is not about performing certain actions. It is about growing in love for Christ and allowing His Holy Spirit to transform our hearts and lives.

Demonstration of good deeds will just be the results of a good relationship with God. Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), the recipewriter and taste-tester for our lives.

As we seek to know God and glorify Him, we also get to enjoy Him. A good person knows God, enjoys God, and grows in grace.

The Social Cost of Reblocking Last Sunday, I had a firsthand experience with the social costs of reblocking or rehabilitation (as DPHW engineers would say it) in the first District of Misamis Oriental.

To travel that short stretch of highway from the outskirts of Gingoog City to Carmen town in Agusan del Norte took us all of one hour compared to the usual 30 minutes (max.)

Reason? The stretch of highway in those areas is undergoing “reblocking” and/or “rehabilitation”.

Travelers from Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Lanao are advise to leave their light vehicles at home or risk having them dismantled piece by piece as they traverse this hellish piece of road.

We cannot understand why the DPWH can allow the contractors to break up

the perfectly good highway while their reblocking/rehabilitation are still kilometers.

I asked around and was told the contractors have to meet stipulated deadlines or face penalties.

Also, this breaking up of the pavement is a “buyitem” meaning once you finished it you can collect on your “progress billing” with DPWH. But at what social cost to travelers for whom this highway is intended to serve in the first place?

Not only are schedules

unnecessarily delayed and vehicles shaken to smithereens but the cumulative time wasted and tempers flared in the interim behooves that the DPWH actively seek solutions to the questions its current protocol for implementing projects of this type.

There is an overbearing sense of impunity pressing down on travelers passing through this highway that the contractors are free to do as they please and destroy the people’s property as they please while the DPWH stands apatheti-

cally by.

Perhaps a social audit by accredited People’s Organization assessing the social costs to project users should be conducted by DPWH before each project is conducted and again after it is completed.

The social costs to the livelihood, daily expenses and environment of the people ostensibly to benefit from the project or those adversely affected by it should be mandatory.

If this is routinely done whenever an Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan or grant assisted project is implemented, why can’t it be done for locally implemented projects, especially LGU projects, for that matter?

Educating in communion

WE need to prepare the students and the youth in general for the challenges now and the future. We cannot deny that the world is becoming complicated, with more attitudes, mentalities, lifestyles, sub-cultures coming up.

What we can see is that there is a clear drift toward individualism, indifferentism and activism, utilitarianism and moral relativism.

Utilitarianism is when one just considers the practical aspects of things to the point of using persons merely as tools and instruments or stepping stones to one’s Money talks to page 10 ambitions.

These isms should not come as a surprise, but rather as an understandable consequence of the confusion that can easily appear when more and more elements appear in society, and we do not know how to exercise our freedom.

That’s when we judge things poorly, even erroneously.

Concern for personal development can deteriorate into individualism or egoism and self-absorption.

Concern for one’s welfare can lead to indifferentism on the one hand or activism on the other. Tolerance to the many things one has to

If the members of a body are ailing, they easily account for an ailing being and this could make up an ailing society.

By the law of correspondence, what you are on the outside is indeed a mirror image of what you are on the inside.

It is extremely difficult to change other people. We cannot change others for our sphere of control is strictly limited entirely within our own selves.

It’s ourselves that we can seek to change for the better.

The best that we can do is to be a model of influence to help others change by and for themselves.

In the words of Jim Rohn, “Character isn’t something you were born with and

In this world, we have individual freedom. It’s the way we responsibly use that freedom that determines what we become in our lifetimes.

Each person has the right to determine his own path, but each one should do so responsibly knowing that by the law of cause and effect, the consequences of one’s choices will matter greatly and would be something that we have to inevitably live with.

Our choices in life are the causes, the persons that we become is the long-term effect.

Similarly, your inner attitude towards money will determine your outside

financial world. By the law of attraction, money is attracted to good stewards.

As a great guru once said, if you seek to learn how to take good care of money, practice how to use and spend it wisely, and share the basic tenets governing its acquisition and redistribution, then you will attract more money into your life.

Let’s constantly make the choice of becoming tranquil, happy and financially responsible individuals from the inside and it will all come out in the glow of our faces, the texture of our voices, and the good health of our finances! Let’s all choose to wake up each day with a smile sowing seeds of peace and happiness, and the whole world will be smiling back at us.

HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOCUSES ON ‘DOUBLE TROUBLE’

THE Department of Health (DOH) has been quick in recognizing the gravity of the HIV-AIDS/TB epidemic worldwide by mobilizing the required commitment and resources for sustainable national and local responses through the program dubbed as “Double Trouble.”

The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the German Doctors Hospital have supported the undertakings of the DOH to combat HIV/AIDS and TB in Region 10, where local health agencies have been implementing HIV/AIDS and TB activities under a comprehensive approach with other health agencies, which are all working as part of emergency Plan for AIDS and TB, now known to be high-risk “classmates”.

TB has also been identified as the “leading opportunist” in HIV/ AIDS cases with infections.

In partnership with other health agencies in the local government and private sector, DOH 10 initiates awareness and prevention activities, including initiatives to prevent mother-to-child transmission and the prevention of sexual transmission of the HIV virus (abstinence and “be faithful” programs, condoms/other prevention initiatives). Other interventions include the prevention of medical transmission of the HIV virus (blood and injection safety). These activities are also integrated into all care and treatment activities, including HIV counselling and testing services.

The backbone of the preventive program in HIV/AIDS starts with the awareness that HIV/AIDS can be prevented. For treatment, it includes antiretroviral drugs and services to eligible patients, as well as laboratory support for the diagnosis and monitoring of HIVpositive patients.

For TB, activities are designed to reduce TB transmission, improve diagnosis, and manage multi-drug-resistant-TB cases, especially among HIV positive patients. Routine HIV testing is also a priority in TB Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS).

A person afflicted with a combination of Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS, which weakens the immune system, is considered by medical experts to be at high risk.

People who are co-infected with both HIV and latent TB have an up to 50 times greater risk of developing active tuberculosis disease and becoming infectious compared to people not infected

with HIV. People with advanced HIV infection are vulnerable to a wide range of infections and malignancies that are called ‘opportunistic infections’ because they take adDr. Arlene Esling vantage of the opportunity offered by a weakened immune system.

Tuberculosis is an HIV-related opportunistic infection. provider has advised. If the drugs are not taken regularly, the bacteria can become resistant to the drugs and this can be dangerous. Multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB) is when the bacteria has become resistant to anti-TB drugs. It is more difficult to treat MDR-TB as well as being considerably more expensive.

To ensure thorough treatment, physicians who were guests at the NEWSCON recommended that the patient takes his or her pills in the presence of someone who can supervise the therapy. This approach is called DOTS (directly

observed treatment, short course).

DOTS cures tuberculosis in 95% of cases.

What are multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB) and extreme drug resistant TB (XDR-TB)?

When a strain of tuberculosis bacteria is resistant to two or more ‘first-line’ antibiotic drugs it is called multi-drug resistant TB or MDR-TB. When it is resistant to three or more ‘second-line’ antibiotics as well, it is classed as extreme drug resistant tuberculosis, or XDR-TB. Drug resistance usually arises when tuberculosis patients do not or cannot take their medicine as prescribed, and drugresistant mutations of the bacteria are allowed to replicate. People can also catch MDR and XDR-TB from others.

XDR-TB is even more serious.

If someone has XDR-TB, it means they are resistant to three or more of the six available second-line drugs too. This can make it virtually impossible to formulate an effective treatment regime for them.

Many people with XDR-TB will die before it is even realised that they have the extreme resistant strain.

DepEd designates info officers to better facilitate transparency

THE Department of Education (DepEd) has directed all its regional directors (RDs) to designate regional information officers (RIOs) in their respective regions to better facilitate news and information processing.

“The designation of the RIOs is in compliance with the directive of His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III for govern-

ment agencies to be more responsive to the needs of and transparent with the media and the public,” DepEd Secretary Armin A. Luistro said.

He said the RIOs will work with his office, through the Communications Unit who will assist the RDs and will have their division counterparts to act as point persons in addressing issues and concerns raised by the public and the media

involving their offices.

The RIOs will cascade a similar training to their division counterparts for better coordination of information in their divisions and conduct local media briefings or press conferences for events.

They will act on requests from the media or the public seeking information on DepEd programs, projects and activities and coordinates interviews with the

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-10) has recorded P1.82 billion in new investments for the fourth quarter of 2012.

Engineer Cecilio Y. Clarete, chief economic development specialist of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-10) disclosed that most of the new investments went to Bukidnon with 36.20 percent or P659.48 million.

Misamis Occidental ranked second with 25.61 percent or P466.59 million; followed by Lanao del Norte with 18.68 percent or P340.27 million; Misamis Oriental with 11.61 percent

or P211.50 million and Camiguin with 7.90 percent or P143.91 million.

Clarete said majority of the investments in Bukidnon went to the construction of an industrial building and storage facility, expansion of agri-based production of cassava, corn, tomato and cut flower, expansion of shoes production, construction of pump stations for banana production and infusion of capital on livestock.

He added that the bulk of investments in Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte were derived from the infrastructure and servicing sector that included the expansion of a subdivision project, construction of a

Supplementary feeding continuous in region 10

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-10) continuously implements the second cycle of the supplementary feeding that started October 2012.

The program has been on-going even during summer vacation to complete the 120 days feeding program.

Out of the 108,306 day care children beneficiaries, 14.4% were malnourished upon the start of the feeding program.

Significant decrease in malnutrition rate among

children is expected after the 120-day feeding process.

A total of 108,306 children benefited from the program with P168,957,360.00 funds allocation.

This was made possible in partnership with the 93 Local Government Units in Region 10.

After the 1st cycle of implementation, malnutrition rate among the day care children beneficiaries reduced from 18.4% upon the start of the feeding to 7.58 % after the feeding with a total of 10, 361 day care children beneficiaries Feeding to page 11

can only take root on the ground of a living and loving relationship with God. God is our Creator and Father.

He is the one who gives us individual existence and holds the whole world and creation in existence, giving it foundation, meaning and purpose. To be sure, we are not here by chance or by accident. Neither are we meant to make our life whatever we want it to be.

There is an eternal law and natural law that governs the whole world in a universal way. We need to adhere to it.

In our case as persons with intelligence and freedom, there is a natural moral law that reflects God’s will for us. We need to adhere to it knowingly and lovingly, and never by force or blind obedience.

Everyone should be made aware of this core, this indispensable, basic requirement of any effort to achieve union and communion among ourselves. That communion among ourselves in spite of our unavoidable differences can only spring from our communion with God. Of course, given our human condition where we develop ourselves in stages, this fundamental truth about God as the foundation of communion should be presented as early as possible and in ways understandable to us in whatever status we may find ourselves due to our gender, age, and other human and natural conditions like our social and economic standing, etc.

With little children, we may just have to tell them what to do first, before explaining the things behind. But obviously, as they grow older, things need to be explained more and more, until these things get clearly related to God. For example, little children have to be taught how to follow a certain schedule, how to behave in different situations of the day—basic norms of courtesy should be imparted as early as possible—how to pray and be aware of God as our Creator and Father, etc.

Later on, they may have to be taught some practical things that help them to relate themselves to others and to God. Teaching them to be thoughtful and helpful to others, to plan and organize their time, etc., should be done in the manner of an inclined plane.

The important thing to remember is that there is some kind of plan of how to help children become more aware of the need for communion with God and among ourselves. This is a plan that never ends. We just hope that the children can reach the point where they themselves make and carry out their own plans.

They have to be taught interpersonal skills, teamwork abilities, the concepts of common good, solidarity, subsidiarity, etc. They have to be taught the spiritual means of prayer, sacrifice, sacraments, etc., to bring this communion about.

The role of parents and teachers are very crucial in this task. They have to know how to relate whatever technical, practical and mundane things they have do with the children to the sacred and divine, to the spiritual and supernatural. In other words, to God.

Camiguin hosts film-making workshop against child labor

CAMIGUIN – In an effort to eliminate the worst forms of child labor, such as sale and trafficking of children, debt bondage, serfdom, prostitution, drug trafficking, pornography and use of children for illegal activities, an anti-child labor arts workshop will be held on May 27-29, this year, at the Grand Provincial Convention, Mambajao, Camiguin.

OROQUIETA CITY - The Second Northern Mindanao Career Advocacy Congress was held yesterday at Pryce Plaza Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

The event was a venue to exchange relevant labor market information trends and updates in the conduct of career guidance activities, Atty. Johnson G. Caňete, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-10) said.

Among others, the event also gathered new ideas on organizational management and scheme on network sustainability of career guidance counselors and recognize the exceptional performance and good practices in career guidance.

nership and cooperation between and among the members of the Networks of Guidance Counselors and other stakeholders, through mutual assistance and exchange of information and promote career guidance as a relevant tool in youth development, contributing to the prosperity and welfare of the nation.
