Job fair hires 512 appliers

SG kills pal having ‘sex’ CAGAYAN de Oro City––A security guard shot dead his supervisor he caught sleeping with a woman in their workplace here Thursday morning. Killed on the spot with five gunshot wounds on various parts of the body were Noel Japon,36,head security officer of Cagayan de Oro-based Mandarin Security Agency, of Alubijid, Misamis Oriental, and his alleged girlfriend Anna Fe Lara, 23, of Bagong Silang, Iligan City. Police investigators at the Cugman police station here identified the suspect as Security Guard Danilo Bustillo. According to the police, Bustillo surrendered after the shooting incident and admitted that he shot the head guard Japon out of “self-defense.” Bustillo and Japon were security guards hired as watchmen of a company that sells Korean made surplus vehicles in Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City. Police said that the shooting took place when Bustillo “accidentally” found out Japon and his girlfriend sleeping inside a bus in the company’s junkyard past midnight Wednesday. Bustillo, who surrendered to police after the shooting, said that he was stunned to see Japon with a woman inside the unserviceable bus. Bustillo alleged that he fired his gun on impulse for fear that Japon was reaching a gun to shoot him. “I was acting on impulse when I fired the gun since I thought that Japon would should me,” Bustillo added. Police said Bustillo reportedly fired seven bullets after the suspect reloaded his five-shooter service pistol. Bustillo is now in the custody of the police as investigators are looking into the motive of the shooting. CRIS DIAZ

GENERAL Santos City––A total of 512 job applicants were “hired on-the-spot” by various local and overseas employers during the Kalayaan or Independence Day job fair held in nearby Koronadal City on Wednesday. Dominica Millan, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-South Cotabato provincial director, said Thursday such figure comprise about 40 percent of the 1,269 residents from various parts of Region 12 that participated in the job fair. DOTC mulls expansion of new Misor airport LAGUINDINGAN, Misamis Oriental––Even before the Laguindingan Airport could formally start its commercial operation on June 15, 2013, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is already egging for its expansion.

After presenting the technical details of the new facility to President Aquino Tuesday, DOTC Secretary Joseph E. A. Abaya said the Laguindingan passenger terminal would be opening at its maximum planned capacity and may already need expansion. “With a total area of 7,184 sq.m. and with a capacity of up to 1.6 million passengers per year, this [passenger terminal] is more than three times as spacious as the Lumbia airport and makes it one of the biggest passenger terminals in the country,” Abaya said. He said the terminal is opening at maximum capacity thus, the need to immediately plan for its expansion. The old Lumbia airport in Cagayan de Oro City had a passenger volume of 1.622 million passengers in 2012, according to figures from the CAAP Area IX office. Other facilities of the new airport include a 736 sq.m. cargo terminal building, eight floor control tower and operation building with 744 sq.m. cab, administration building, crash/fire rescue building with one unit 90,000 liter crash fire vehicle and one unit

ambulance, maintenance building with one runway sweeper and one tractor mower, cold water receiving station, power house building and sewage treatment plant. A four-lane airport access road links the airport to the Iligan-Cagayan-Butuan-Road (ICBR) and the cities of Northern Mindanao and Lanao del Sur in the ARMM. “As we look forward to the start of commercial operations in June 15, we see Laguindingan Airport as the new gateway to and from Northern Mindanao and a channel to an increasing flow of investments, trade and commerce,” said Director General William K. Hotchkiss III, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). However, the business sector led by the Oro Chamber and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Region X remains adamant in its opposition to what it considers the “premature opening” of the airport.
