AGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has arrested two police officers and five other persons in separate operations for alleged drug-pushing over the weekend. PDEA officials said the seized illegal drugs “shabu” (Metamphethamine, a derivative of amphetamine, used illegally as a drug, of about 283 grams with an estimated street value of P3 million. According to the PDEA, the two police officers were reportedly arrested in separate buy-bust operations.
Emerson Margate, PDEA regional director, said the suspects were subject of surveillance for the past months. The police officers suspected of plying the illegal drugs were PO3 Bangcola Manangcawal and PO1 Santiago Lumangcas. Both suspects who had denied the allegations were detained at the PDEA regional office here. Chief Supt. Catalino Rodriguez, of Region 10, said that the two cops might face dismissal from service if found guilty of engaging in illegal drug trade. He said an accused police officer could avail of
all legal remedies through an administrative process to prove their innocence of any charges. Also arrested were Crisanto Lagunero alias “Intsik,” Alexis Saring, Lalyn Ecaranum, Julie Bacarra and Marvin Soriano. Also seized from the suspects were firearms of varying caliber, incluiding an armalite rifle, and various drug paraphernalia. Officials at the PDEA regional office had prepared appropriate charges against the suspects for violation of the anti-drug laws. GERRY GORIT
WHILE government is busy on the “sex for flight” investigations, more than 10,000 OFWs from Taiwan have returned to country “angry and disappointed” that their job contracts were not extended due to the Taiwan crisis, Rep. Roy Seneres of OFW Family Club party list said on Monday. The freeze would mean that the country stands to lose more than P 200 million in OFW monthly remittances. The 10,000 OFWs had worked in Taiwan for the past three years and upon completion were due for an extension for another three years.
