Typhoon Huaning enters RP
Typhoon (international name Soulik) continued to strengthen as it moved westward, expected by weathermen to enter into a Philippine Area of Responsibility before noon today, according to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. We at her Fore caster Ricky Fabregas said it will be locally named Huaning -– the first cyclone to visit the country this month and the eighth of the year. He said it will not have any direct effect on any part of the country but the typhoon will enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring rains in the western part of the country starting Thursday afternoon In its advisory, PAGASA said that light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over Visayas and Mindanao. Taiwan-based workers from NorMin safe, say CAGAYAN DE ORO CITYTaiwan-based workers from Northern Mindanao were not among the 10,000 workers whose contracts were not renewed by their employers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) here said on Tuesday. “As of Tuesday, the OWWA regional office has not received information that a worker from Northern Mindanao was among the 10,000 Taiwan-based Filipino workers who lost a job,” Petrona M. Bergado, OWWA Regional Director, said. She said that the OWWA
office in Northern Mindanao was stunned by the report that 10,000 Taiwanbased Filipino workers were about to lose their jobs for non-renewal of their contracts. She said there are 1,301 Taiwan-based registered OWWA workers f rom Northern Mindanao as of May 18, 2013. Of the total number of Taiwan-based workers from Northern Mindanao, 520 came from Misamis Oriental followed with 288 workers from Lanao Del Norte, Bergado added. The remaining workers | page 11
