PBBM: Easter ‘opportunity for renewal, recovery’

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is hopeful that the celebration of Easter Sunday would give Filipino Christians around the world a chance for “renewal and recovery”.

“May this day be an opportunity for us to pause and give thanks for the opportunity for renewal and recovery as we push through our quest for genuine unity and progress for all,” Marcos said in his Easter Sunday message.

“Indeed, Easter teaches us that as long as we live our life in Christ, love and hope will remain ever so boundless and will be the cornerstones for the positive transformation of our society,” he said.

a new birth for all the faithful to walk in the new way of life and be granted eternal salvation.”

“Indeed, His selfless and unconditional love empowered us to conquer both sin and death, allowing us to deepen our relationship with God and become worthy Christians in this earthly journey,” he added.

He said the triumph of the resurrection of Jesus Christ inspires Filipino Christians to be “stewards of faith and compassion no matter the circumstances.”

Marcos likewise enjoined Filipino Christians to look forward to “better days.”

“As we celebrate the magnificent glory of our risen Savior, let us all take into heart

this Christian foundation as we work for and welcome better days for ourselves, our families, and our neighbors as well,” he said. “I wish everyone a meaningful and solemn observance.”

‘Love and serve’

In an interview with reporters last month, Marcos said he will go on a retreat during the Holy Week and he will spend Easter Sunday with his family.

In a separate message, Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman expressed hope that the Easter celebration would not only remind Filipinos to hold on to the Lord’s promise of everlasting life but also inspire everyone

As reported by thousands of concerned scientists and environments worldwide during the Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland attended by some 200 world leaders last year, “human civilization is now racing towards the precipice, as the doomsday clock is now set at one minute before midnight.”

As reported during the Conference, “Since the United Nations Paris conference in late 2015, climate change indicators have escalated so quickly and an emergency response is imperative if civilization is to avoid breakdown and eventual collapse.”

To mitigate climate change, it has become imperative to defunct now the use of coal and replace fossil fuel with clean energy. But as described by environmentalists worldwide, the COP26 was just all BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. No commitment has been done by the world leaders in attendance. Why must they defunct the use of fossil fuel when the 19 Fossil Companies are earning some 15 trillion dollars annually or 10 million dollar every minute, massive raking that they share to powerful politicians, to the mainstream media and to religious groups who are blatantly denying climate change. Indeed, the outpourings of lies continue without let up with regards to the state of the environment.

First, on the state of the forest ecosystem. Exploit and kill the forest ecosystem and all other ecosystems will perish with all the millions, if not billions, of flora and fauna that have been there for billions of years even before the homo sapiens came into being. In the uplands/hinterlands of Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Lanao provinces, some two hundred thousand hectares of once-upon-a-time dipterocarp forest are now gone and are totally denuded. Seven logging companies, namely, Vicmar Corporation, Valderama & Sons, Roa & Sons, TIPI, Remedios Fortich and Dacudao Logging Company not to mention small but well-armed logger like 2nd Lt. Desty Eleasar. All of logging activities which happened intensively from the fifties to the nineties were all done illegally as these were done in the prohibited zones, i.e., no logging in forest areas with an altitude of more than 1,000 meters above sea level or in slopy areas with gradient of more then 50%. The forest in ranges of Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Kitanglad were all within the prohibited zones, yet, all were erased by the loggers from the face of the earth. Also, the finest of trees, i.e, red lauan, almacega, mahogany, narra, etc. should not be cut as prohibited by forestal laws, yet, are now all gone. Why? Don’t you know that for every shipment of logs, a logger would earn some 360 million pesos, massive raking that also went to the pockets of law enforcers? In fact, a logger by the name of the late Desty Eleazer had bragged that he could not be stopped because 90% of those in DENR were under his pay-roll. All of these ten-wheeler logging trucks were passing the thoroughfares of Cagayan de Oro from 12 midnight to 5am when the Cagay-anons were all asleep. Each passing logging truck was giving P5,000 to the checkpoint. Each logging truck was accompanied by an armed man carrying either Armalite or AK-47.

After exploiting the wealthabove-the-ground, the non-stop exploitation of our ecosystems continued. This time, the target is the wealth-below-the-ground as Mindanao oozes with tremendous top quality 72 kinds of minerals, i.e., gold, silver, copper, iron and what have you. Here is how they extract the wealth below the ground though openpit and hydraulic mining. In fact, tens of hectares of irrigated rice land had been sacrificed to the massive greediness in the uplands of Cagayan de Oro which was financed before through foreign debt, the DENRSECAL Program. What is so painful is that some of these powerful miners were well-armed Chinese carrying only Tourist Visa. Upon their arrest by Task Force Kinaiyahan which implemented the Writ of Kalikasan in 2014, the arrested well-armed illegal miners were released one week after. Why? Is it true, “dahil may mga kasabwat na powerful people?”

Abalos joins search for missing Ati chieftain in Aklan

ILOILO CITY – Interior and Local Government Secretary

Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Saturday morning joined 35 foreign and local scuba divers to search for the missing tribe chieftain after his motorized fishing boat was hit by a speedboat between the waters of mainland Malay and Boracay Island on the evening of April 5.

The 6:30 a.m. underwater search turned out negative and Abalos said one or two more dives would probably be conducted to locate the victim.

An earlier press statement by the Malay Police Station identified the missing victim as Ernesto S. Coching, 64, chief of the Malay Ati Tribal Association and resident of Barangay Cubay Sur, Malay, also the skipper of the motorized fishing boat “Rens Lee.”

Coching and his son-in-law, Ricky E. Valencia, 37, were

thrown into the waters after their fishing boat was damaged and later sank when it was reportedly hit by a speedboat marked “Diwata 4,” owned by Shangri-La Boracay.

Valencia was rescued by the speedboat.

“I just spoke with the family and they are hoping that he is still there. Whatever it is, what is important is that we’ve really tried our best to search (for Coching),” Abalos said in an interview with reporters.

He said there is a possibility that the victim was swept away because it has been three days since the incident happened and he observed during the dive that the underwater current was strong.

Abalos also thanked all the dive shops and volunteers in Boracay who responded even if they were just informed of the operation Friday night.

As a result of the incident, Abalos emphasized the need

VALUES EDUCATION : THE PRINCIPLE OF FILIPINO VALUES

Values education is an essential aspect of Philippine educational system that is often overlooked but can play a crucial role in shaping the character and behavior of individuals. In the Philippines, values education is a vital component of the curriculum that aims to develop the moral and ethical values of students. It is essential to teach values education in schools because it can contribute to the betterment of society by producing responsible citizens who are capable of making ethical decisions.

Values education in the Philippines is primarily based on the principle of “Filipino values,” which emphasizes the importance of community, family, respect, and responsibility. The goal of values education in the Philippines is to help students become morally upright citizens who can make sound decisions based on ethical values. By teaching students, the importance of values such as honesty, integrity, compassion, and respect, values education can instill in them a sense of responsibility towards themselves, their families, and their communities.

One of the most significant benefits of values education is that it can help reduce social problems such as crime, drug abuse, and corruption. By promoting the values of honesty, integrity, and responsibility, values education can create a culture of transparency and accountability, which can help reduce corruption and promote good governance. Additionally, by teaching students the importance of respect and compassion, values education can create a more inclusive and harmonious society where individuals are valued and accepted regardless of their differences.

Moreover, values education can help individuals develop their emotional intelligence and social skills, which are essential for success in both personal and professional life. By teaching students the importance of empathy, communication, and teamwork, values education can help them develop positive relationships with others, which can lead to better career prospects, personal fulfillment, and social satisfaction.

Barangay Lumbia gears up for the big-time

Asimple concrete pouring ceremony held on Holy Wednesday is just one of the signs that Barangay Lumbia is ready to join the League of Progressive Uptown Barangays.

Strategically situated in the center of twelve (12) hinterland barangays, Lumbia is leading the boom in Uptown Cagayan de Oro with no less than 58 approved residential subdivisions, 32 of which are now operational.

With a total area of 38.51 square kilometers at an elevation of 165 meters above sea level (masl, or (541.3 feet), the barangay’s population has increased by leaps and bounds from 7,222 (2000) to 14,079 (2010) and to 31,504 (2020) with a current population density of 818.1/km. population density, per the Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA).

“We are celebrating the concreting of the Lower Kiam-is Road from Torralba street (formerly F. Delima barangay road) to our Pueblo de Oro La Aldea del Rio housing project,” said Chrysler B. Acebu , Vice President & General Manager, Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation (PDO).

The P10-million 450 meter road will replace the previous dirt road which was difficult to access especially on rainy days. A joint undertaking of Barangay Lumbia, El Elyon Realty & Development Corporation and PDO , Mr. Acebu said its completion will significantly affect the timeline for the completion of La Aldea.

However, it will have more upscale (i.e. Medium Cost) amenities and standard amenities such as entrance gate and guard house, playground and basketball court, and a multi-purpose hall, unlike competing units of the Low Cost Level 2 category.

Teaching Garbage Segregation in the Classroom

Cleanliness inside and outside the classroom has its essential impact both the learners and the teacher.

It is the most important aspect that a teacher should maintain in the daily undertakings. One of the greatest teacher’s challenge in maintaining cleanliness inside the classroom is on how to properly dump wastes materials, scraps and other garbage/s. This challenge focuses mostly on how to discipline learners to separate waste materials into its proper category.

That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point of irreconcilability and they separated for each other for some reason of which both petitioner finally decided to legally break or severe their marriage bond for years, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other, neither minding each other affair’s; petitioner seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on April 4, 2009 so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens. Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile. Any interested party may appear and show why the petition should not be granted. Let copy of this Order be published in newspaper of General Circulation in the City of Iligan once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks at the expense of the petitioners.

The most basic teaching on how to take good care of our Mother Earth is to integrate lessons across different subject areas about cleanliness specifically this so called garbage segregation. Teachers are required to prepare trash bins properly labeled with plastic, paper, bottles and others to accommodate solid waste management, unfortunately, according to Wilson & Velis, 2015, “the problem of managing solid waste in a right way

is a serious problem in an all areas in the community.” Avoidance of having trash is a way of lessening the garbage problem in any locality.

In school, there are ample and numbers of wastes materials every day. It increases as the population increases, too. What is important is to instill in every learner to properly keep their scraps, to put into action the classroom rules on cleanliness, to inculcate in their hearts the love of environment and to introduce simple ways on how to segregate garbage/s, starting from picking up scratch papers on the floor down to sweeping, scrubbing and many more.

As an active agent of change, teachers should diligently include the teaching of garbage segregation for the learners to apply in real life situation.

Positively, teaching garbage segregation in the classroom will be of great helped to develop and produce more responsible citizens in the nation!

Davao 'faith tourism' seeks to attract young generation

DAVAO CITY – A “faith destination” opened to the public in Barangay Marahan, Marilog District here on Maundy Thursday, aiming to attract the younger generation.

The Majestic Peak at Sitio San Miguel, a 2.8-hectare land converted into a haven for devotion, features the Stations of the Cross, 14 stops of prayers and reflections from the condemnation to death of Jesus Christ until His burial.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the owner, who refused to be identified, said the youth is so engrossed with technology that she feels a need to reintroduce the value of devotion.

“We strongly encourage the younger generations to come since they are capable of climbing more than 500 steps. But we don’t discourage

the older ones to come,” she added.

Each visitor will pay PHP50 as entrance fee. All proceeds will be donated to fund for the ongoing construction of the nearby San Miguel Parish.

“God is very majestic. There are no words to describe Him. This [place] is something where they could relax. If you would go up and see the cross, it would give you a feeling of happiness and you will appreciate the

effort of coming up,” she said.

The Stations of the Cross, also known as Via Crucis or Way of the Cross, recall the events during Jesus Christ’s final days on Earth.

The devotion is most common during Lent. (PNA)

Surigao Sur police chief denies issuing memo profiling a lawyer

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur (MindaNews / 10 April) —

The provincial police director of Surigao del Sur has denied he issued a memorandum ordering the police station in Lianga town to profile a public lawyer rendering legal assistance to alleged communist rebels.

In a phone interview, Col. Dennis A. Siruno of the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office vehemently denied the memo was coming from him

saying this is fake because his signature was forged,

“Nastress na ako dahil concerned na pamilya ko.

Sinabihan ko ang aking mga anak hindi gawa ng papa ninyo yan (I was stressed because my family was concerned. I told my children that their father would not do that),”

Siruno adding that aside from his family in Ilocos, his high school classmates were messaging him about the veracity of the report.

Siruno assured that he

will personally conduct an investigation starting Sunday to track down those who were involved in the fake memo as he vowed to file an administrative and criminal charges against them.

The memo dated March 29, ordered the police chief of Lianga to profile Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) lawyer Carol Anne A. General who was said to be assisting New Peoples Army rebels in their criminal cases.

The memo noted that dur-

PRIMARY EDUCATION : AN IMPORTANT STAGE IN A CHILD’S LEARNING PROCESS

Primary education, which includes kindergarten and the first six years of primary school, is an important stage in a child’s learning process.

In the Philippines, primary education plays an important role in the development of the country’s human capital. However, despite government efforts to provide universal access to primary education, significant challenges remain.

The Philippine government recognizes the importance of primary education, as evidenced by the allocation of a significant portion of the state budget to the Department of Education (DepEd). DepEd is mandated to ensure that all children in the country have access to quality primary education, regardless of socioeconomic status. The department’s K-12 program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to succeed in the 21st century.

One of the biggest challenges in primary education in the Philippines is access.

Although the government has taken important steps in recent years to increase school enrollment, many children are still out of school. Lack

of access to education is particularly acute in rural areas, where poverty and distance from school are major barriers to enrollment. In response, governments have introduced various programs to address these challenges. This includes Alternative Learning Systems (ALS), which provide informal education to out-of-school youth and adult learners.

Moreover, the poor quality of education is due to several factors such as lack of qualified teachers, inadequate teaching materials and outdated teaching methods. In response, the government has launched several programs to address these challenges, including the Teacher Education Council, which aims to improve the quality of teacher education in the country. Despite these challenges, positive progress has also been made in primary education in the Philippines. For example, the government introduced her K-12 program. This aims to improve the quality of education and ensure that students are better prepared for higher education and the job market. The program includes the introduction of new subjects such as technology and life education, as well

as a sixth form that provides students with professional skills and knowledge in various fields. Another positive development is the increased use of technology in education. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of technology in education, with governments and schools embracing online learning as an alternative to traditional classroom instruction. This change has not only increased access to education, it has created new opportunities for students to learn and develop digital skills.

In summary, primary education in the Philippines faces several challenges such as access and quality. But government efforts to address these challenges, such as the K-12 program and increased use of technology, offer hope for the future. By continuing to invest in primary education and addressing these challenges, the Philippines will ensure that every child receives a quality education and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

ing the meeting between the Regional Intelligence Division and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency in March, “it has been observed that some legal personalities handling the cases of CTGs were repeatedly providing them assistance with regards [sic] to their criminal cases.” The military and police refer to the New People’s Army as CTG or “communist terrorist group.” The memorandum was marked “confidential”.

A statement signed by 16 lawyers said that the purported memorandum is “a gross display of ignorance and blatant disrespect of the law” and “an undue interference and grave assault on the independence and role of lawyers in our justice system.”

For her part, PAO chief Persida Ruedas-Acosta in her social media post told Siruno to spare General from red-tagging/profiling who is just ding her job pursuant to Republic Act No. 9406 (PAO

law) and section 3o of R.A. No. 11479 (anti-terrosrism act). “Pleaseread the lawa,” she said.

The statement noted that “similar lawyer profiling incidents have also occurred in the past that sent clear chilling effects on the members of the bar.”

“PNP members, as law enforcers, are duty-bound and expected to assist in the administration of justice, not to make a mockery of our

PHILIPPINE EDUCATION : PROMOTES INCLUSIVITY, EQUITY, AND DIVERSITY

The Philippine education system is diverse, with learners from different regions, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and learning styles. This diversity of learners poses both challenges and opportunities for the education sector in the country.

One of the primary challenges is addressing the learning gaps and disparities that exist among different groups of learners. Students from rural areas, for example, often face more significant challenges in accessing quality education due to the lack of resources and facilities. Students from low-income families may also have limited access to education due to financial constraints. Another challenge is ensuring that the curriculum and teaching approaches are inclusive and responsive to the needs and interests of all learners. It is essential to consider the cultural and linguistic diversity of students and design teaching materials that are relevant and engaging to them.

Despite these challenges, the diversity of learners in the Philippine education system also offers opportunities for promoting inclusivity, equity, and diversity. Teachers and educators can leverage the different perspectives and experiences of learners to foster a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. One way to address the diverse learning

needs of students is to adopt a differentiated teaching approach. This approach recognizes that learners have different learning styles and preferences, and that teaching should be tailored to meet their individual needs. Teachers can use a variety of teaching methods, such as hands-on activities, group discussions, and multimedia presentations, to cater to the different learning styles of students.

Another way to promote diversity and inclusivity in the education system is to integrate cultural and linguistic diversity into the curriculum. This involves incorporating the different cultural traditions, languages, and practices of students into the learning materials and activities. By doing so, students can develop a better appreciation of the diversity of the Philippine culture and become more respectful and accepting of others. In addition, providing support and resources to students who face learning challenges can also promote inclusivity and equity in the education system. For instance, students who have disabilities or learning difficulties can benefit from specialized instruction, assistive technology, and accommodations, such as extended time for exams or modified assignments.

To effectively address the diversity of learners in the Philippine

education system, it is essential to have a comprehensive and integrated approach that involves all stakeholders. This includes teachers, educators, school administrators, parents, and the broader community. Teachers and educators should be provided with professional development and training programs that equip them with the knowledge and skills to teach diverse learners effectively. Parents and the community can also play a critical role in promoting diversity and inclusivity in the education system. They can provide support to students, participate in school activities and events, and advocate for policies and programs that promote equity and inclusion.

In conclusion, the diversity of learners in the Philippine education system presents both challenges and opportunities. Addressing the diverse learning needs of students requires a comprehensive and integrated approach that involves all stakeholders. By promoting inclusivity, equity, and diversity in the education system, we can create a more supportive and inclusive learning environment that empowers all learners to reach their full potential.

Breastmilk donation is also made easy with the application since mothers can easily prompt milk pick-up with the app, and the volunteers will get their expressed milk and bring it to the existing human milk banks in the city.

The developers are also targeting to add more features to the said app, and these include vaccine management, where mothers could be reminded of their children's vaccination schedule.

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro also backed the newly made app, saying that it gives women more power by making the most of technology's benefits and closing the gender gap in information and communication technology and how it connects people.

Currently, it has three main features that include breastfeeding education, counseling, and

"Through the information materials na pwede niyong makita o ma-access sa application, tutulungan natin ‘yung mga mothers na nahihirapan na mag-produce ng milk, na makapag-produce ng

They’re now actually available here in the Philippines and only at Kirie Toes.

The concept of a footwear decorated with real stones can only be conceptualized by an entrepreneur who is innovative and practical at the same time. That is exactly who Cristine Joy Lim of Cagayan de Oro City with the full support of her husband businessman E. Lim.

When CJ started out Kirie Toes in 2015, she was merely in the sandals business. But the creativity in her pulled her to offer something

more unique: footwear accessorized by jewels.

You remember at the height of the pandemic that someone created a lava face mask made of jewelry as inspired by the colors of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s lava-colored gown. Kinda like that but this is more practical since the flops can be worn casually anytime anywhere.

Kirie Toes’ sandals clientele are all over the world from Hong Kong to Canada, Australia and Sweden among others. With this new innovation, I believe this will sell like hotcakes in no time at all.

For now, the bejeweled flops are available only via the Facebook page of Kirie Toes. If you

want your flops’ adornments to be customized, please send a message directly to the page.

Meanwhile, Kirie Toes sandals can be bought via the Shop -

pee and Lazada apps. For more inquiries, you may send a message through Kirie Toes on WhatsApp and Viber. Quality footwear only with Kirie Toes!

to follow His example to love and serve one another.

“May we always remember that no matter who we are, no matter which part of the globe we are in, despite our differences in beliefs, religion or leaning, God is always with us. In suffering and celebration, He never leaves us. He is our hope and our salvation,” Pangandaman, who belongs to the Muslim community, said.

“May we use this time of renewal as an opportunity to recommit ourselves to showing God’s love and mercy by praying and extending our hands to the least of our brothers and sisters,” she added.

Pangandaman is the first Muslim DBM secretary and the only Muslim in the Marcos Cabinet.

‘Beacons of hope’

Department of National Defense (DND) chief Carlito Galvez Jr. expressed hope that the miracle of Jesus Christ’s resurrection inspires us to continue persevering over adversities.

“As we celebrate Easter Sunday, I wish everyone peace, happiness and thousandfold blessings. May the miracle of the Resurrection of Christ inspire us to triumph over adversities and become beacons of hope in our communities,” he said in a separate message.

Galvez also said he and the “One Defense Team” are joining “brothers and sisters in the Christian faith” in the observance of Easter Sunday.

“During the Lenten Season, as in life, the auspicious and joyful day of Easter Sunday emanates from overcoming uncertainties and hardships, as symbolized by the Passion of Jesus,” he added.

Galvez also expressed hope that this solemn period allows us to rejuvenate our faith, manifest temperance, and rekindle love in our hearts. “As we celebrate Easter Sunday, I wish everyone peace, happiness and thousandfold blessings. May the miracle of the Resurrection of Christ inspire us to triumph over adversities and become beacons of hope in our communities. A blessed and meaningful Easter Sunday to all!” he stressed.

‘Better and brighter tomorrow’

As this developed, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) joined members of the Christian community across the globe

in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“May this occasion serve as an inspiration to all of us that despite the trials that come our way which test our resolve, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and the promise of a better and brighter tomorrow,” OPAPRU acting chief Secretary Isidro L. Purisima said in a statement.

And as the nation moves towards the peace process, he also expressed hope that Christ’s resurrection may give us the strength to overcome challenges to this endeavor.

“As we continue to move forward the nation’s peace process, ensure security and stability as well as economic development, may the risen Christ give us the strength of mind, body and spirit to overcome them, and bring us together in the spirit of peace, mutual understanding and solidarity,” Purisima noted.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez likewise called for rest and reflection.

It is a time of great joy and jubilation, for our Lord Jesus rose from the dead after dying to redeem us from our sins. It is also a time of hope, for in our Lord’s Resurrection we find that the promise of eternal life holds true for all of Christianity,” Romualdez said.

He said we should thank God for “our health, our safety, and the blessings and bounty of nature,” and for the “opportunity to physically celebrate with our friends, family, and colleagues, which the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic have prevented us from doing so in the past years.”

Easter Sunday marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after he was crucified and died on the cross on Calvary.

In the Philippines, most commercial establishments either operate on shorter hours or remain closed until Easter Sunday.

The observance of Holy Week this year is from April 2, Palm Sunday, until April 9, Easter Sunday. (with reports from Priam F. Nepomuceno/ Zaldy Delayola/PNA)

Upon seeing the incident, BRP Andres Bonifacio’s commanding officer Commander Paul Michael Hechanova dispatched a rescue team to aid the passengers of the M/B Dexeter.

The passengers, one of whom was pregnant, were all provided medical aid upon rescue.

Ison said the ship also towed the damaged motorboat back to Barangay Macarascas.

“After ensuring that the passengers are stable, they were turned over to the Barangay Captain of Macarascas and safely arrived in their home at Purok Maligaya, Barangay Macarascas, Puerto Princesa City,” he added.

Ison said the Western Command, through NFW, will continue to stand on watch “not only to ensure the security of our sovereignty but also the safety of life at sea.” (PNA)

He also met with the ranking commanders of Joint Task Force (JTF) Malampaya. led by Navy Capt. Brendo Casaclang, to discuss the challenges of securing the energy projects in the “western frontier.”

"It is important for us to ensure the uninterrupted oil supply chain from Malampaya as it accounts for 40 percent of Luzon’s power requirement. Any interruption to this line may mean a minimum of a 10-hour blackout,” Carlos stressed.

To make the most of the Malampaya visit, Carlos observed the operation of the Philippine Navy’s unmanned aerial system (UAS) flight unit stationed in El Nido.

The UAS flight unit is under the Naval Air Wing and is currently attached and operationally controlled by Wescom to provide sustained maritime domain awareness picture in the JTF Malampaya’s area of operations.

"As the Navy's Gray Eagle, the most senior naval aviator still in active service, Vice Admiral Carlos noted the strong presence of naval air assets in (the) JTF Malampaya area. In addition to the UAS flight unit, maritime patrol aircraft NV-312 and AW-109 naval helicopter NH-431 are also flying regular air patrols in northern Palawan," the Facebook post read. (PNA)

On the first day, a total of 383 applicants from various parts of the province were served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Applicants with complete documentary requirements will be scheduled for processing at the same venue on May 10-11.

The Passport on Wheels program is rolled out in Ilocos Sur once a year.

“This is something that we have been working on for years now with the DFA in order to serve our constituents and lessen their burden in going to the regional office in La Union to secure their passport,” Vice Governor Ryan Singson said in an earlier interview.

Even during the pandemic, the demand for passport services remained high in this northern part of Luzon, especially after the rollout of new passports with a 10-year validity.

As part of the government’s commitment to bring its services closer to the people, the DFA continues to partner with interested local government units, schools and other organizations to provide mobile passport services.

Inculcating Educational Games and Plays in the Daily Teaching

Games and plays inside the classroom take part in the success of the teaching and learning processes. These two, plays a vital role in sustaining the span of interests for young individuals specifically the primary learners in keeping them engaged in a class. (Ford, Alber, & Heward, 2006) state that, “the ability to maintain attention, and motivation in the classroom can be a significant challenge for today’s educator at all levels of instruction.” Indeed, true enough to believe that learners nowadays learned differently. Considering the diversity of learners, family backgrounds and economic status may affect each level of ability.

The bounty was raised following an encounter between the troops of 79IB and communist rebels in Sitio Siraje, Barangay San Isidro in the adjacent Toboso town on Thursday.

In September last year, soldiers installed “wanted” posters with the photograph and personal information of Fabillar in various barangays of Calatrava and Toboso.

Mae L. Guno is optimistic about the prospects of the organizations and foresees them becoming successful agripreneurs in the future.

Now, who is suffering from the much-exploited resources? Because of AGAW GUBAT, AGAW LUPA, AGAW TUBIG, AGAW BUHAY, the Lumads are now the poorest of the poor. Our ecological people like the fisherfolk are now living in so, much hunger and poverty as thousands, if not millions, of tons of top soil have destroyed thru massive siltation the mangroves and coral reefs, the spawning ground of fish, as only 5% remain in excellent condition.

During the turnover on February 21, 15 members were trained on the basic operation and maintenance of the newly turned-over machineries. DOST will also be training them on Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety.

The processing plant, a joint counterpart of the LGU and the beneficiary is currently being furnished to be compliant with the standards of the Food and Drug Administration, for the ease of their future License to Operate application.

“We want to see them become agripreneurs, that their profit increase and their quality of life improve”, she said. Hallasgo also denied claims from Peñaloga’s groups that she was appointed as one of the new board of directors under X64 management to PMC saying what ROCSIPO wished for is to rightfully claim their ancestral land being overlapped by the opposing lumad group.

Cagayan de Oro is now under strain as another Sendong means about 20,000 will die as predicted by environmental experts. Don’t you know that based on the analysis of experts, “oneinch-high rainfall in the 200 thousand hectares of denuded areas in the uplands of Cagayan de Oro means one-meter-high flood upon reaching the 200-hectare urban center of the city. Ten-inch rainfall means tenmeter-high flood. Pati daw Gaisano, di na iyan makita.

The 14-ha. wooded agricultural space in Manresa will somehow serve as the much needed “shield.” But the plan of the Cebu Landmasters, Inc. to put-up malls and condominiums will destroy Manresa’s mini-forest. What? You have mitigating measures like drainage and canal? That honorable Sirs are just plain “drama,” if that seen in a bigger context of the state of the forest ecosystem in the uplands of Cagayan de Oro. Glaringly, the mitigating or the countervailing measure is now massive replanting, specially of giant bamboo, a great carbon-sink and great water-holder, in the denuded areas which we, together with the Cooperatives of the Lumads, are now doing.

Sirs and Mesdames of CLI and Xavier University, please heed the call of the concerned thousands of scientists and environmentalists worldwide: ‘THE FACT THAT NO EMERGENCY RESPONSE HAS BEEN MOUNTED

Please CLI, your kind of commercialism, is totally disregarding the cry of Mother Earth as some 40 species of birds will be extinct if you continue your business-asusual framework. We, the Concerned Parents, Teachers, Alumni and Communities (COPTAC) will harness our collective potential to oppose Xavier’s sacrificing its cultural heritage and go the business-as-usual commercializing in utter disregard to the cry of Mother Earth and the poor people of Cagayan de Oro City. Vatican, let us follow the appeal of Pope Francis in Laudato si’, to hear the cry of the poor and of the Earth. No less than King Solomon in Ecclesiastes said that, “wealth, fame and power are meaningless, utterly meaningless.” Amidst the denigration of spirituality through instant pursuit of wealth and power as humanity is buried deeply n unbridled materialism, commercialism and consumerism, what is important is how to be men and women for others, to serve the least of our brethren, in consonance with the Jesuit pioneers’ vision, from the mundane to the sublime.

The MILFACO (Miarayon–Lapok–Lirongan–Tinaytayan Tribal Association) Farmers Agriculture Cooperative and the Kinaiyahan Angay Natong Ampingan Para Sa Maayong Kaugmaon (Kanak), Inc. have also received their own coffee processing equipment to enhance the quality of their arabica coffee production. This initiative aims to improve the coffee processing methods of these organizations, leading to better coffee quality and increased profitability.

MILFACO has 532 coffee farmers, while KANAK Inc has 39 coffee farmermembers.

The coffee beans grown in the Pangantucan-Talakag area, situated around the foothills of Mt. Kalatungan, are renowned for their unique flavor, resulting in national recognition from the 2022 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC).

DOST and LGU Talakag have also scheduled them for more product development programs to continuously improve local coffee production. Mayor Vergito O. Factura has expressed the LGU’s full support to these initiatives as these projects not only strengthen the coffee and vegetable industry but also benefits the farmers and their families,

We believe that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s appointment of Macacua is a testament of his trust and confidence in the latter’s capacity to handle the reins of governance in Maguindanao del Norte, and most importantly, lead the people of the province at this crucial time.

We have no doubt that Macacua, who has demonstrated utmost skill, competence and leadership during his term as a former Member of Parliament and Senior Minister, will be able to effectively carry out his mandate as OIC and bring greater political stability and economic development to the province.

Most importantly, we have faith that Macacua will be able to help move forward and sustain the gains of the Bangsamoro peace process. “ I could never imagined such a big role to the corporate world when I did not even finished my elementary education,” she said.

Jeff McGlinn, managin director of X64, has communicated the anti-Villanueva lumad group that he had already ordered PMC managers to follow his orders not Villanueva.

X64 is the Australian partner of PMC since 2013 with 40 preent share and 60 percent for its Filipino partner.

The partnership had gone awry in February this year when X64 failed to remit about $4.8 million to PMC for the sales of gold and silver to Hongkong.

“I will bet my own life to support Atty. Raul Villanueva all the way,” declared Rolito “Hawodon Tagdoan” Peñaloga, chairman of Bunawan Manobo Ancestral Domain Management Council , Inc. (BMADMCI) who also sits as Municipal Tribal Chieftain of Bunawan.

Later in the day, the Philsaga Employees Labor Union (PSELU)in a gathering at the company’s mine site in Sitio Upper Co-o in the village of Consuelo expressed their all out support to Villanueva after learning that the other lumad group pushing to oust Villanueva only wanted to get the biggest royalty share.

Jaime Pizzaro, PSELU president, said he really do not want chaos in the company that he want a status quo after he learned that Villanueva is willing to hear calls for fair wage pays.

“I will give my all-out support to Villanueva without ifs and butts,” Pizarro said.

BMADMCI and three other organized Manobo groups have declared supporters of X64 namely Joseph Mahusay, Ramon Austria, Ramon de Jesus Jr., Ferdausi Cerna Fernando Curato and Manobo leader Mary Jane Rodrigo Hallasgo.

from page 1 Fire...

But Hallasgo, chair of Rodrigo Clan and Settlers Indigenous Peoples Organizarion, Inc. (ROCSIPO), denied they were after the biggest IP royalty share instead they only asked Villanueva to hold its release to BMADMCI and three other groups while they have pending appeal with the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) to revalidate the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) No. 136 of Peñaloga’s group.

She said the Rodrigo clan which spans to seven generations were the original settlers of more than a thousand

Joseph Mahusay, who was installed by McGlinn to replace Villanueva as president, filed a writ of injunction against Villanueva for continuing to act as PMC president and member of the board of directors even if he already sold to Mahusay his shares of stocks with Philsaga Management and Holdings amounting to 125,000 common shares.

But Villanueva denied he sold his share of stocks to Mahusay saying the documents were fabricated when submitted to the court in Davao City.

He said several lapses were found in the document including the forged signature, enough ground to file a case against him.

The TRO stemmed from an earlier action of X64 lawyer Peter John U. Javier against Villanueva for allegedly violating Sections 12.1 and 14.1 of his employment contract with Medusa Mining Limited, now known as X64.

Javier said Villanueva had been given a notice that his contract was terminated effective February 15.

On the same day the TRO was served, ROCSIPO group picketed outside the gate of the same building calling for Villanueva’s ouster.

Sorilla said the two events happening in the same place at the same time were “too much of a coincidence.”
