More Filipino children exposed to online sexual abuses

DAVAO CITY — An advocacy group has expressed alarm over the increasing number of Filipino children getting exposed to various threats on the internet, particularly sexual abuse or exploitation.

At the online launch of “Web Safe & Wise Campaign” on Friday , Allan Nuñez, advocacy specialist for ChildFund Philippines, said the country is known

as a “global epicenter” of the Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

He said the production of images of sexual abuse and exploitation has significantly increased in the country. At least 600,000 images and videos of naked, sexualized, and abused Filipino children were uploaded, shared and sold online in 2018, he said.

He noted that this number significantly increased by 256% during the CO -

Suspects identified in Zambo del Norte rido - Dulawan

TWO suspects have already been identified as the perpetrators of the killing of a barangay chairman in Sirawi, Zamboanga del Norte and five of his relatives.

In an interview with this writer, Zamboanga del Norte

provincial police chief PCol. Glenn Dulawan said the suspects are cousins of the victim, Balubuan barangay chairman Allie Manangca and the motive has been identified as rido. They are now facing

VID-19 pandemic as most children spent more time on the internet due to lockdowns and schools shifted to online classes.

He said spending more time in the online environment during the pandemic was a “perfect trap” set up by people who took advantage of the situation to victimize more children in the country.

The pandemic lockdowns started in March 2020. Faceto-face classes resumed only

late last year.

Anand Vishwakarma, country director of Childfund Philippines, said “Websafe and Wise” is a global effort headed by Childfund Alliance to” build an accessible, safe, and exclusive digital world for children and youth.”

Nuñez said the group was also alarmed that household members who are “economically burdened” have been forced to sexually exploit or abuse the children in

exchange for money.

He said the “Web Safe & Wise Campaign” was launched to educate stakeholders in the private sector, particularly the media, to contribute to efforts in eliminating online threats against children.

“Every child in the Philippines should enjoy a safer and better digital environment free from all forms of online abuse and exploitation and violence,”

3 Japanese firms commit to invest in Maharlika fund: Marcos

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has bared that three Japanese private firms made substantial commitments to the proposed Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

“We have some commitments but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to name who they are. But they have – there were already three commitments, substantial amounts that they are willing to invest in the fund. So we can begin there,” Marcos said in a media interview en route to Manila from Japan.

Aside from private sector commitments, he said there were also pledges that came from the Japanese government financial institutions but did not elaborate.

He earlier said the proposed MIF would be reviewed by Congress to make sure that its establishment

would reap significant benefits for the country.

Certified by Marcos as urgent, House Bill (HB) 6608 or the MIF Act was approved by the House of Representatives on Dec. 15, 2022, and was transmitted to the Senate four days later.

It seeks the establishment of an independent fund that will be sourced from the investible funds of select government financial institutions (GFIs), contributions of the national government, declared dividends of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and other funding sources.

The proposed MIF will be used to invest on a strategic and commercial basis in a manner designed to promote fiscal stability for economic development and strengthen the top-performing GFIs through additional investment platforms that will

MANILA – Farming without soil?

It’s possible and can be lucrative, especially with government support, according to Senator Imee Marcos.

Marcos has filed Senate Bill 1805 or the Soilless Agricultural Production Act that seeks to promote the use of agriculture technologies such as aeroponics, hydroponics and aquaponics for the production of high value fish, crops and vegetables.

She said such methods are in use in Japan, the United States, India, South Africa and the United Kingdom, which produce tons of agricultural products to enhance food security.

Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or an aggregate medium; hydroponics is the cultivation of plants by placing the roots in liquid nutrient solutions rather than in soil; and aquaponics combines aquaculture and hydroponic plant production in a closed-loop water

DA distributes piglets, feeds in ASF-free towns in Camarines Norte

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay

(PIA) – The regional office of Department of Agriculture (DA) recently distributed close to 900 head of piglets in at least four towns of Camarines Norte province where hog-raisers were recovering from the effects of African Swine Fever (ASF).

According to the DA’s Re-

gional Livestock and Poultry Office, total number of head distributed reached 888, of which 67 percent went to Jose Panganiban and Talisay at 300 each while 150 head and 138 head were awarded to Labo and Santa Elena, respectively.

The young pigs were on top of 888 sacks of swine feeds that were also given to their recipients, of which

the lion’s share went to Jose Panganiban and Talisay at 300 apiece while the rest went to Labo and Santa Elena at 150 sacks and 138 sacks, respectively.

The piglets and feeds would provide a shot in the arm for 296 hog raisers in those four towns who were affected by ASF that ravaged their towns’ hog population in the last two years.

Last January 31, hog raisers in the town of San Vicente received 50 piglets, while their counterparts in Daet received an identical number of piglets last February 1.

The piglet dispersal was part of DA’s Calibrated Hog Repopulation Program (CHRP), an effort to rehabilitate the local hog

WHEN the late chieftain of the Higaonon Tribe of Cagayan de Oro City, Fausto Orasan known as Datu Sandigan, was passionately advocating and protecting the integrity of the environment in the uplands against illegal loggers and miners, he was killed after seven attempts to his life. On the seventh attempt, his residence in Pigsag-an was rained with bullets by these armed men who, as narrated to me by Datu Sandigan himself, were even brandishing their high powered guns, shouting while walking in the streets at 2:00 o’clock in the morning not to follow the good Datu or else, they would also be killed. Miraculously, he survived but not the on the 8th attempt in the mining area of Tuburan during his watchful visit as he was then a volunteer to report to the “Task Force Kinaiyan,” which I am heading to stop these illegal mining activities as embodied in the “Writ of Kalikasan” issued In 2013 by the Court of Appeals. His life was taken away by the assassins’ bullets in that Saturday afternoon of September 13,2014 in his efforts to stop the degradation of the environment

where the Higaonons are now living who were before inhabitants of the city but now have been pushed to live in the hinterlands.

Why must Datu Sandigan sacrifice his life for Mother Earth? Perhaps, those who are viewing the planet as private property for enclosure of the commons to satisfy their profit motive that have already captured the mindset of all governments, institutions, universities and even religious groups, Datu Sandigan, for giving his life for God’s creation, is crazy. That was how we were perceived before when we were lying in the streets to stop the illegal flow of logs in the 90’s.

The truth is what Datu Sandigan had dedicated his life for Earth Democracy for justice, sustainability and peace which seemed to be too alien to a world that has been deeply buried in so much materialism and consumerism. No less than the world known environmentalist and a physicist Dr. Vandana Shiva, a professor in a University in Canada mentioned to me when she was visiting us during the heights of our direct action against logging through human barricades together

She said that “Earth Democracy connects the particular to the universal the diverse to the commons, and the local to the global. Native American and Indigenous cultures worldwide have understood and experience life as a continuum between human and non-human species and between present, past and future generations. Human as he also was and is, Christ could also feel exasperated when he was questioned about something the proof and evidence of which are all over. He performed miracles, his teaching was very sublime, he showed compassion with everyone, mercy with sinners.

As St. Thomas Aquinas once said, “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”

It’s always a question of faith if we want to know the truth about God, ourselves and everything else. Without faith, we would just be inventing things. Even if we what we think and invent can appear convincing, without faith we will always miss the truth of anything we consider.

We cannot deny that we often get entangled with our worldly ways. This is the real problem of inflation that many people today complain about, but limiting it to its economic terms only. That’s when people complain about high prices and cost of production, because of some increase of money of supply that is not properly spread out and shared by the people, or without the corresponding productivity that money supply is supposed to generate.

Inflation in common terms can be described as that phenomenon where there is a lot of hot air in some persons or in some situation without the corresponding substance that such air should come as an effect.

In terms of our spiritual life and our relation of God, there can also be some kind of inflation—the real and ultimate inflation, in fact—when precisely things are done without faith and, thus, we can appear to be

making and producing a lot of things and yet miss the real goal of our life. Christ articulated this phenomenon when he said: “What does it a profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?” (Mk 8,36)

We should take care of our faith because that is the first means we have to establish our relation with God and to truly get in touch with the true reality of things, not just the reality of our own making.

Faith unites us with God in whose image and likeness we have been made. It gives us the whole truth about ourselves, about who we really are. It provides us with all the means we need to face all the challenges of our life.

It is indispensable in our life as we go through the drama of our earthly pilgrimage. With it, we can manage to have hope even in our worst hopeless predicament, as well as charity especially in those moments when we don’t see or feel

Teacher’s language in Teaching Children

Only to humanity, language is the celestial memento of god. A person’s use of a language aids in the development of the unique personality that sets a man apart from an animal. In actuality, it is language that brings people from many cultures, customs, and communities together. Language is a tool for communicating basic thoughts, feelings, and words with others. The goal of language instruction is to make language acquisition easier. Since the teaching and learning of languages are quite distinct in nature, teachers must comprehend this concept. Learning is a science, and teaching is an art. Human life would not be possible without language. Learning a language is a challenging, risky, and rewarding experience. A language instructor who can direct students toward communicative proficiency and fluency in the target language must lead them on such a journey. A wellrounded toolkit of language standards, knowledge of the abilities of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, the ability to accurately assess the language learning process, and the ability to boost student motivation are

all essential for a successful language teacher. Because it involves everyone in the class, it makes the class more animated and energetic. Students learn complex grammatical statements in an easier way thanks to demonstration classes. A bilingual approach can be utilized to make learning easy and comfortable for the pupils because it makes learning a new language less challenging. Additionally, because it exercises their reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities, it will train children in a multi-skill approach.

Language teaching and learning is crucial because it involves the teacher and the student in the learning process and focuses on learning the entire language rather than just the activities that are required for the skill being taught. As the learner puts forward the principles and fundamentals that bind in a language, the learner may develop discipline in language acquisition. A variety of tasks were carried out to increase interest in learning a language without any fear or concern, and group discussions during class made the environment more engaging than it would have been otherwise.

to revive the multimedia industry.

“As we know, culture and the arts are powerful instruments in fostering not only pride in our heritage but also unity in the community. The provincial government has incorporated these tools in our leadership in the province by developing premier cultural events and initiating more movement within the artistic industry,” said Manotoc as he pledged support to the creative sector.

For his part, provincial tourism officer Aianree Raquel, in a press conference on Saturday, expressed hope that more filmmakers will be inspired to join the local competition and show their ingenuity to the world.

The selected entries are shown for free at the Robinsons Place Ilocos Movieworld on Feb. 11-12 and on Feb. 18-19, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Previously, at least three documentary films that were produced during the first-ever Tan-ok ni Ilocano Online Film Festival of the Ilocos Norte government made it to various film festivals here and abroad.

These include the “Panagwawagi” (Brotherhood) by Gabb Gantala that bagged the top prize a the Rad Fest Short Film Competition 2021, a project by Blackbox Studios founded by Carlo Alvarez.

It was also nominated for “Film of the Month” at the Viddsee Shortee Award by a Singapore-based video entertainment platform that recognizes and celebrates the most-watched, shared, and talked about Asian short film on Viddsee every month.

Similarly, Kevin Jay Ayson’s “Ang Mga Nawalang Pag-asa at Panlasa” (The Lost Sense of Hope and Taste) was awarded 2nd Best Film and chosen as one of the 13 short feature finalists in the Cinemalaya

Philippine Independent Film Festival in 2021.

Meanwhile, Melver Ritz Gomez’s “Iyallatiw” (To Transfer) was selected as an official entry to the International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) and screened at the Diwa Filipino Film Showcase of Seattle in Washington, USA. “Iyallatiw” was also chosen as part of the Viddsee Juree Awards in 2021.

“Panagwawagi” portrays a brotherhood that could withstand disparate and ageless circumstances and trying times.

“Ang Mga Nawalang Pagasa at Panlasa” narrates the battles and struggles of Ilocano food entrepreneurs amid the pandemic, while “Iyallatiw” portrays an almost dying oral tradition in the town of Paoay, Ilocos Norte, and how a “manglualo” (prayer leader) will transfer the practice to the younger generation.

In support of the local filmmakers, the Ilocos Norte government provided a seed grant of PHP50,000 for each of the entries. ( PNA )

industry.

Under the program, each qualified beneficiary receives three piglets and three sacks of feeds.

Before the piglet and feed distribution, all six towns scored a victory in their battle against the highly contagious hog virus as DA declared them ASF-free. The towns obtained the ASF-free status after no new cases of the swine fever were recorded there for at least 90 days.

Meanwhile, the rest of Camarines Norte--San Lorenzo Ruiz, Mercedes, Basud, and Vinzons towns--have yet to eradicate the hog virus in their areas.

On the other hand, Paracale and Capalonga remain ASFfree, as the highly contagious swine fever has not yet been detected in these towns.

Areas where ASF has been eradicated are given a surveillance period of 90, in which DA needs to collect blood samples in over 150 domestic pigs in each town. The process is supervised by the municipal agricultre officers and the

Provincial Veterinary Office.

help attain the national government’s priority plans.

It was introduced to the world stage by the government during Marcos’ attendance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland last month.

More investments

Meanwhile, Marcos expressed confidence that more investments will come to the Philippines on top of the deals signed during his successful working visit to Tokyo.

“That’s why we keep on doing this… the Japanese have been very forwardlooking, in a sense na meron talaga silang mga pinaplano (that they’re really planning something) that are very new, taking advantage [of] the new technologies,” he said.

He said he also looked forward to bolstering partnerships with Japan in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation, which is a key part of his administration’s priority agenda.

Marcos said his working visit to Tokyo was mission accomplished given the “good results” obtained by the Philippine delegation.

The five-day visit has so far resulted in seven bilateral agreements and 35 investment deals amounting to USD13 billion or PHP 708.2 billion, estimated to generate around 24,000 jobs for Filipinos.

“All of the projects that were on the pipeline, I think we were able to finalize all of them. That’s a good result I think from this trip,” he added. ( PNA )

The Spirit of “ Bayanihan ” in School

One of the most desirable attitudes among Filipinos is being helpful. Helping others in times of need is basic instinct of human nature. It is the feeling of happiness and satisfaction that drives individual towards doing good deeds.

Bayanihan is good helping act among people in the neighborhood or in the community. It is a Filipino word referring to the spirit of communal unity and cooperation.

Furthermore, bayanihan can be viewed in many forms. It is where cooperative undertaking takes place with each individual effort exerted because it is an art of working together with a common goal.

In school, in an institution or in any learning spaces, bayanihan occurs when there are programs and activities. This can be shown on committee tasks and responsibilities wherein everyone is given individual descriptions on what to do.

grows both plants and fish.

“Despite the advances in modern agriculture, hightech farm mechanization, modern irrigation system and advanced controlled environment agriculture, food production in the country remains at the mercy of nature and is subject to various destructive elements of the changing climate,” read the bill’s explanatory note.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources promoted aquaponics at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In Naga City, Camarines Sur and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan for instance, beneficiary communities received aquaponics units in 2021 for them to plant fruits and vegetables and grow fish.

The bill said that with the increasing population and huge demand in food supply, the country must utilize advanced systems to

grow more food while conserving limited resources.

“We must devote more research and development to the use of state-of-theart technologies aimed at improving agricultural production and ensuring food security and safety,” the bill stated.

The measure mandates the Department of Agriculture, in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology, to conduct research and promote the use of aeroponics, hydroponics, and aquaponics technologies as instruments to further improve the production of fish, crops and vegetables.

Idle government lands, either owned by the national or local government, and other land resources in state universities and colleges shall be considered for fish fanning and growing crops using aeroponics, hydroponics or aquaponics

Developing Leadership Skills in Schools

Helpfulness among others, cooperation and collaboration among school personnel are developed in doing such act.

More importantly, having the spirit of bayanihan in school promotes good rapport among teachers and administrators. It decreased teachers’ burden and it lightened teachers’ responsibilities. It adds happiness in the workplace and it helps develop good relationship among others.

Doing “pahina” in school is a simple act of help. With this, bayanihan is shown among parents, stakeholders, and other community people who are extending their help in school. Working together and lending a helping hand without expecting any reward or return are the most precious actions anyone should possess.

Let’s keep the spirit of bayanihan in school burning! Let’s help one another, because, together we can do better!

Decision Support System: Predicting Student’s Performance

NATHALIE JOY G. CASILDO

IT Faculty, College of Information Sciences and Computing Central Mindanao University

It is a known fact that teachers’ role in the classroom is of utmost importance. In order to be effective, his engagement with learners must be strong so that learning is successful. A good teacherlearner relationship is geared toward communicating the lessons well.

In addition to this, however, administrative support is crucial as well. This includes recording of observations on a learner’s performance both in written and practical lessons, deciding on the grades based on the rating per task and so much more. I can say that it is much better nowadays that we can already benefit from technology to aid us in our analysis.

Decision support system is one of these products of technology that become beneficial for educators. Decision sup-

port system is a program that is commonly used to support determinations, judgments and courses of action in an organization. In schools, it is helpful in predicting student’s performance. There are many kinds of Decision support system, but the most common one is the data-driven DSS which results are based on the inputs or entered data or observations. DSS runs through these data and analyzes each information, thereafter generating conclusions. The modern times call for more challenging internal processes in academes, but it also introduce new beneficial ways to counter these challenges. Such innovations in education assisted teachers, resulting to a more research-based delivery of instructions.

Taking on a leadership role is a great opportunity to build real-world skills. A leadership position allows individual to exercise strengths and explore interests. Some people were born to be leaders. They have skills in dealing with people with individual differences with less hassle and stress.

In school, leadership skills are always present in the teaching and learning process. A cooperative learning approach, games, and other group activities are simple ways wherein skills in a good leader can be proven. Moreover, doing group and responsibility tasks inside the four walls of a class home are great practice to engage in so that leadership skills will be developed.

Generally, leaders of today’s generation started

in school, enhancing their leadership skills. Surely, they were classroom officials during their elementary days. Then, school has its vital role in molding youthful leaders in the society through the help of all dedicated teachers; who are present in school for 5 days in a week, devotedly preparing and teaching to ensure development among learners in school, not only the academic progress but mostly self improvement, abilities, capabilities and various skills in life.

Particularly, these leadership skills are honed early. They are not acquired for just a blink of an eye and so, as mentors, let’s develop leadership skills in school among our learners for some day, many of them will become future leaders in the society.

Motivational Teaching Strategies in Teaching Senior High School Students

Motivational strategies are techniques that encourage individuals to engage in goalrelated behavior (Sucuoglu, 2017). These are the methods and approaches used by teachers in the classrooms to capture and sustain student’s attention to the lesson.

For Senior High School learners, who are in adolescent’s stage, they are more likely to work towards a goal when motivated- rather that instructed. However, same with younger ones, Senior high schools learners find joy in doing games and other varied activities in the classroom for fun is the antithesis of boredom. Games can also be great educational tools, encourage everyone to participate, hold attention and break up monotony of routine.

Generally, learners learned best in any forms of motivational strategies that are commonly used in the teaching field. These in-

Aeroponics, hydroponics and aquaponics technologies, as used in agricultural production, shall likewise be integrated in the academic curriculum of public and private academic institution’s secondary and tertiary level students who are studying Agriculture, Practical Arts, Home Economics and other subjects related to agriculture. Overcoming the True Challenge of the Day

clude differentiated activities, puzzles, simulations and the use of pictures and real objects.

For today’s generation, the use of technology is in highest form of motivational teaching strategy that is why power point presentation is a primary need as tool in teaching Senior High School learners. They find it easy in their age to manipulate gadgets like net books, laptops, mobile phone and computers. Thus, teachers should always include and integrate technology as part of motivational strategies in teaching Senior High School students to combat the apathy of learning.

All in all, motivational strategies are useful mechanism for teaching profession to encourage, invite, convince and motivate learners to actively participate and cooperate in the teaching and learning process to target the goal of Success!

In a day of the life of a teacher, a routine makes it extraordinary. Zooming in, she starts it by making sure she arrives on time or even earlier before the bell rings. She prepares her lesson plan, creates the modules and crafts creative materials to make the day’s lessons attractive, entertaining and engaging. She also fixes herself enough to not distract her learners once she faces them to deliver the instructions.

However, I think the most crucial challenge that she will be facing in a day is to encourage students to listen to her lessons, literally and figuratively. Creating the body of knowledge starts from thinking a good study, coming up with research questions and forming a set of objectives, ensuring that the study contains rich content from introduction, body, towards conclusion. The same goes to learning.

If a learner listens intently to one topic and sees the same way in several lessons to come, then he will be more knowledgeable and yes, a step ahead of those who did not. I think the behavior of a

learner in a particular lesson is very important for him to be able to learn the subject well. More than learning the subject, is for him to appreciate these things that he gained from the classroom and collectively apply his education to the daily life.

That is why that as a teacher, I have to come to realize that a day in my life is equally important with every single day my learners spend with me. Each day is a formation of their future. This thought inspired me to make my daily lessons as colorful as it should be and at the same time impactful. It has been my goal to allow them to understand even the simplest word I say and encourage them to ask questions, so that I can answer them and explain them the way of things.

Overcoming the true challenge of the day as a teacher makes me a better teacher and this challenge is seeing my learners listen to my lessons in English, Math, Science, and so on and listen to my wisdom when they ask life questions that comes to them randomly.

us. If you do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of this earth is sacred to my people. Every clearing and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. The sap which courses through the trees carries the memories of the red men. This we know: the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites our family. All things are connected.”

Earth Democracy is the awareness of these connectedness and of the rights and responsibilities that flow from them. This is what our Indigenous People are advancing as exemplified by Datu Sandigan. Indeed, all species, peoples, and cultures have intrinsic worth. It is the firm belief of that Indigenous People that all beings are subjects who have integrity, intelligence, and identity not objects to ownership, manipulation, exploitation, or disposability. No humans have the right to own other species, other people, or the knowledge of other cultures through patents and other intellectual property rights.

Today, the Indigenous People (the Higaonons and Maranaos) are very much bothered as their ancestral domain is now the subject of interest by the LGUs nearby to convert a very wonderful holy ground into tourism site for money raking. In their letter to me, they expressed such alarm, to wit:

teretoryo.”

By the way, the newly formed cooperative is headed by a very brave warrior and brigade commander of the North Eastern Command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) of the 6th Special Force Unit, Sultan Abdul Ayunan Amoran. With him are some five battalion commanders and 1,400 MILF combatants.

Indeed, Mindamora Falls is the manifestation of the Unseen Being, the creator. Can there be a more amazing site on earth than the radiating two-story waterfalls flowing amidst the backdrop of the green scenery of blooming trees and flowers and above are flocks of birds hovering and dancing to the music of the wind in harmony with the music emanating from water falling, Yes, just like Datu Sandigan’s stand, “It is where Magbabaya is that is worth dying for.”

Aside from keeping the public safe, the project also aims to further educate the public, especially beachgoers, on water safety and the beach owner’s responsibilities when it comes to water safety.

Informational leaflets that contain safety precaution instructions will also be handed down by the team to individuals to help enhance their knowledge of water safety.

Around half of the 44 million Filipino internet users are children aged 17 years old and below, he added.

Nuñez said there is a need to protect the children from age-inappropriate content across all online platforms. He explained that this includes engaging the minors for a consultation and educating them, including the private sector and media practitioners, through webinar series, training, community education and outreach.

He said the media are responsible in ensuring informed reporting on issues related to child online safety and protection and should follow an ethical approach to covering issues involving OSAEC.

“Media plays an instrumental role in protecting children by increasing public discourse on the issue,” he said.

Ariel Sebellino, executive director of the Philippine Press Institute, added that efforts and initiatives must be smarter to combat challenges and problems.

“People just don’t know that once kids are left like that, they are already exposed to so many dangers, be it potential or real. These are the realities now,” he said.

He added that the role of journalists in addressing these online dangers is “very critical and crucial.”

Empowerment of Women (UN Women) planned to launch the next cycle of the BARMM’s action plan on women, peace, and security (RAP-WPS).

A 4-day technical writeshop to jumpstart the next cycle of RAP-WPS was held in Cotabato City, February 6–9, which will be followed by a series of validations in the different areas of BARMM for finalization.

At the technical writeshop, women from BARMM ministries, offices, and agencies (MOAs), civil society organizations, grassroots women peacebuilders, and national and international non-government organizations worked together to find ways to fix the problems with the current BARMM RAP-WPS.

Accordingly, the new RAP-WPS is a 10-year action plan intended to address the various needs of women and establish a more concrete and gender-sensitive plan for the promotion of women’s protection towards achieving sustainable peace and gender equality in the Bangsamoro region.

Participants talked about what needed to be changed or improved in each of the plan’s four pillars: protection and prevention, empowerment and participation, promotion and mainstreaming, and monitoring and evaluation.

BWC Chairperson Bainon Karon said the Commission is hopeful that the next cycle of RAPWPS will be more inclusive and participative, and relevant to the stakeholders in order to strengthen women’s active and meaningful participation in various spaces.

The various spaces included peacebuilding and conflict prevention, the integration of important emerging issues relevant to WPS such as climate change, cybersecurity, and the engagement of men and boys, diverse populations, as well as young persons with disabilities.

“Women are also active agents of peace in armed

conflict, yet their role as key players and change agents of peace are still yet to be recognized here in the Bangsamoro. But I concede to your different understanding, experiences, and capabilities to all aspects of women, peace, and security that are essential in sustaining peace in the region,” Karon said.

Meanwhile, UN Women Peace and Security lead Nery Ronatay emphasized that when it comes to WPS, BARMM is one of the models around the world.

“Sinusubukan natin sulatin iyong pangatlong cycle ng RAP-WPS. Ito ay ang commitment ng Pilipinas at ng BARMM para i-address natin yung mga needs and vulnerabilities ng mga kababaihan at mga batang babae na naiipit sa giyera

(conflict),” he said.

(We are trying to write your third cycle of RAPWPS. This is the commitment of the Philippines and BARMM to address the needs and vulnerabilities of women and girls who are trapped in war)

He also stressed the need to focus on issues involving women in the Bangsamoro Peace Process Normalization.

RAPWPS was anchored to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security, which was adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council and The National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security ( NAPWPS), October 31, 2000. (BIO/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur )

Teaching Children Correct Social Skills

Children today require a wide range of social skills in order to succeed and thrive in society. Effective communication, consideration, and problem-solving are the three talents I choose. These three abilities are crucial for a child’s social development. These abilities are necessary for children to learn throughout their childhood and to operate as adults. A message is shared between two or more individuals through communication, which is also how people come to know one another. Words, acts, looks, and silence can all be used as forms of communication. Communication is the cornerstone of developing a child’s abilities to learn and is the foundation of creating relationships. It is necessary for social interaction, play, and learning.

Children must learn how to comprehend others and how to be understood by others. A youngster has to be able to articulate their ideas and feelings about their surroundings, which makes communication crucial. Due

to their frequent inability to express themselves, kids with communication challenges are more likely to have behavior disorders, low self-esteem, and confidence concerns. When communication is weak, friendships are frequently impossible to achieve as well. Reading, writing, math, and science all revolve around communication. By allowing children to communicate their unique thoughts, feelings, and connections to and with others, effective communication aids in the development of self-esteem, confidence, and stronger interpersonal interactions in young children.

Understanding one’s own and other people’s sentiments requires consideration. Children who have the necessary empathy and sympathy skills can detect and understand the feelings of others and are compassionate. Children who are trained to be considerate of others are more able to control their own behavior and have less difficulty forming and sustaining relationships.
