DAVID DINES
“A little bit of electropop deliciousness!” Off The Radar - 01/12/11
In a vision of pop art guided by DIY ethics, David Dines, 25-year-old Brazilian singer and songwriter, wants to enable a dialogue between the new Brazilian music and the global pop scenario, with bilingual lyrics and a knack for infectious melodic hooks. In his sonic palette, paints like those of the prime time of Phil Spector, David Bowie, Smiths, Depeche Mode and Ace of Base, blend with modern colors, influenced by Daft Punk and Grimes. A passionate performer, Dines takes the stage celebrating both the lightness of dance music and the human flaws tackled on his lyrics. Born and bred in Belo Horizonte, Brazil’s fourth biggest city, best known as Sepultura’s birthplace, David Dines started writing songs at the age of 9 and first performed live at 10, at one of the
most respected local theaters. Since then, participated in several projects on many genres, being the electropop band Spooler the most recent. As the group’s vocalist, guitarist, programmer and main songwriter, he recorded and EP and an album, drawing national attention and playing important festivals in the country, like Circuito de Verão Skol and Planeta Brasil. In solo career since early 2013, Dines produced and recorded by himself the mixtape “SDDS FUTURO”, available for free download at his website. The work has motivated invitations to live PAs in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo and the endorsement of Movimento Hotspot, itinerant multimedia festival sponsored by mining company Vale, who invited Dines to be one of its representatives in the music category in 2013.

David Dines is highlighted in Belo Horizonte. “Independent soccer club After playing in some groups of the independent scene (as Spooler), David become one-man-band, inspired by artists like the british James Blake. In his mixtape, SDDS Futuro, released this year, we can find - between a certain danceable melancholy - great examples of tropical pop, like “Não me venha com essa de amor” a good example of music from Minas Gerais without the Clube da Esquina pitch”. “A cute-electro-pop vibe meets a sincere lady-killer talk and the result is a summer hit that could rock my, your, our, life.” Best musics of 2013 (about Não Me Venha Com Essa De Amor), Pergunte ao Pop website – jan/2014
David Dines was selected by SEBRAE (Brazilian agency that helps small businesses become professional and competitive in the market) to integrate a special mission of BM&A (entity that promotes the export of Brazilian music) at MIDEM 2014.
O Tempo newspaper - 10/12/13
“David Dines emerged in the indie scene because of different attributes. The pop sensibility, the singular voice and stage presence garnered attention in previous works. (…) SDDS FUTURO shows a lot of David’s musical intimacy, pointing his preferences and bets on pop aesthetics. (…) The highlight is the songs in portuguese, that value the relation of the musician with the genre’s global context.” Salomão Terra , Mondo BHZ – 22/05/13

“A young man in a world of short-term interests misses the future - or, at least, indications of the right direction to follow. With this theme in mind and a handful of pop melodies, David Dines conceived his first solo mixtape.
