let the sunshine in
W
ith the first signs of Spring bursting into view, our thoughts turn to the great outdoors and the hopeful prospect of spending time closer to nature and feeling the warmth of the sun. With our unpredictable weather however and lack of precious leisure time, it is no surprise that a popular interior trend is design that brings the outside inside through a variety of techniques. BIG WINDOWS Large windows are really popular at the moment, especially ones with minimal framing. Chart Ridge, Trevereux Hill, for example, optimises the amazing views by using sliding glass doors to seamlessly bring the outdoors into the house. Not only do the doors slide, but they also open out onto the large terrace to create a continuous space and provide a sense of dining outside even from within. Feeling the fresh air and being able to watch flowers come into bloom and the season change are pleasures that can be enjoyed from inside even on a dull or chilly day. At Grove Park in South London, high level windows let in generous amounts of light and views of the treetops which provide a visual and emotional connection to nature.
OPEN PLAN AREAS Encouraging communication and maximising the use of space, open plan layouts are increasingly popular. The lack of physical divide creates more room to breathe and practically expands the inside, joining the kitchen and the living room space to make it more open and free flowing. F R E S H C O L O U R S A N D N AT U R A L M AT E R I A L S Pale hues of white, grey, blue and other neutral colours have the effect of making the indoors feel light and fresh. Likewise, the use of organic materials such as wood and the current trend for nature-inspired prints and textiles create a natural feel. The Gerrard’s Cross development by Millgate uses wood effect wallpaper and wicker furniture to heighten the sense of bringing the outside inside to the New-England inspired garden room. INDOOR PLANTING Aided by the increase in window sizes, which let in lots of natural light, we are seeing the resurrection of indoor planting. A far cry from the Victorian potted houseplant, the modern indoor scheme includes herb planters in the

kitchen to high walls of lush greenery in living areas to oxygenate the home and create an attractive indoor living garden. GARDEN ROOMS AND ORANGERIES Perhaps the ultimate extension to any home is a room that bridges the house with the garden and can be enjoyed all year round. Garden rooms and orangeries are a wonderful investment. In Beaconsfield, one house is home to a beautiful orangery, where an inviting dining room with the combination of roof lights, all-round windows and a simple white and grey scheme, ensure there is plenty of guaranteed natural light during the day and a romantic view up to the stars after dark.

Special reader’s offer
henley royal regatta 2014 Exclusive garden party at Bird Place
just £198pp including vat
F
irst held in 1839 Henley Regatta added the word ‘Royal’ to its title in 1851 when Prince Albert took an interest in the event. Since then the protocol is that every reigning monarch becomes the Royal Patron. Today Henley Royal Regatta is one of the major social highlights of the summer season events, alongside Royal Ascot, Wimbledon Tennis or Guards Polo, where ladies dress (and their consorts!) to impress while sipping their Pimms on the riverbank. The course is a straight 1 mile 550 yards, taking approx 7 minutes to cover. Rowing continues through the 5 days and the competing international crews are whittled down to the select number to contest the Finals on the Sunday. County Concierge have teamed up once more with the Maidenhead Steam Navigation Company to offer our readers the opportunity to join one of the sumptuous Henley Royal Regatta Garden Parties at Bird Place amidst the 4 acres of private riverside gardens of this stunning Tudor mansion. The day starts at 10.30am with Coffee and Danish Pastries and from 11:00 a Champagne, Pimms and Bucks Fizz Reception which is followed by an optional 90 minute morning cruise with complimentary bar. On your return a 4 course fine dining luncheon is served with French wines and liqueurs. Private tables of 6, 8, 10 or 12 may be booked. After lunch everyone boards the two luxurious riverboats for another outing up and down the course. Once back at Bird Place a classic English Strawberry Cream Tea is made available. Drinks are complimentary throughout the day and a Trad Jazz Band plays throughout outside the smart pagoda-style marquee complex amongst the trees. The event draws to a close around 6.00pm.
Wednesday 2, Thursday 3, or Finals Day Sunday 6 July not including Friday or Saturday Champagne, Pimms, Lobster, Strawberries… …and Rowing of course!
You will have gathered by now that delicious food and drink is very much part of the day with something for everyone to enjoy. There is onsite parking at Bird Place for £15.00 per car or take the complimentary shuttle bus from Henley railway station. For full details of the itinerary, menu and location pictures see www.henleyregattahospitality.com For bookings either call Nigel Scandrett on 020 3044 2925 or email nigel@maidenheadsteam.co.uk quoting ‘concierge’.

Fashion guru Lisa Talbot tells us all about
t h is s eason’s new c o l l ec tions
I
have to say after seeing the same collections all season it is refreshing to see new colours, shapes and styles, but also trends that continue from one season to another with subtle twists of difference. Floral is here to stay for Spring/Summer 2014 but this season the fashion designers are sending us florals with a difference... you can stay with the pretty feminine pansies, go mad with strong large floral prints and we are also seeing 3d floral prints. Floral not only injects print but also wonderful ranges of colour to any skirt, trousers or jeans. I always say to my clients ‘floral is not always about being feminine’ as they can be quirky, strong or soft… how will you be wearing yours?
For me, this is perfect for a casual look in jeans or top with tartan from Autumn/Winter 2013 but it can also create an amazing formal ensemble if teamed with a skirt. I can’t wait to see this with a leather-look skirt which helps bring this trend into now.
Spring/Summer 2014 trend is satin and metallic I am a real fan of these fabrics as they work so well for both daytime and evening styles and it is so easy to move this trend from day into evening. You will see lots of colours in these fabrics this season, rather than just the gold, silver, pewter or bronze... be prepared to be a little more adventurous. Fabric has a great way of injecting a great feel to your outfit. My only ‘err on the side of caution’ with these fabrics is do not wear them on any area you don’t want to appear bigger. As they reflect the light so have a habit of doing this!
The continuation of the ‘sheer’ trend that has been with us for a while This is a great trend and another way of adding in a new fabric to an existing wardrobe...dressing it up or down. We are seeing the sheer on skirts, dresses and tops... this is such a beautiful feminine trend; don’t forget if you feel slightly bare wearing a sheer top, pop a vest top underneath, it will really help you feel less exposed. For summer the sheer is a fabulous way of covering up if you feel the need to; even though the fabric is sheer it will count as a layer, so perfect for ladies who want a cover-up past the knees. It also works wonders in sheer sleeves for ladies who prefer their upper arms covered. The new summer season brings you ‘pleats’ and lots of them. This season you will see pleats of all types and on all lengths – mini, maxi and midi. Pleats are really feminine and can add texture and a simple yet stunning look to any outfit. Perfect for both work or casual styles, worn with shirts, T-shirts and cool knits I can see many of us embracing this trend in the coming season.
Another 2014 trend takes you back to the 1990’s I have already started seeing this in my local high street and know that you will either love it or hate it. It really is logo mania, a chance for you to have fun with your clothes.

jo hansford launches
‘Eclipse’ the latest s/s 14 hair colour trend
J
o Hansford mbe, one of the world’s leading premium hair colour specialists, has unveiled the latest hair colour trend hitting catwalks and beyond for Spring/Summer 2014. Eclipse, named after the single flash of colour used to frame the face, will brighten all hair shades for the warmer months and will work perfectly with summer wardrobes.. Spotted on runways across London and New York Fashion Weeks, Eclipse can be adapted to give the best match for skin tone, complementing golden tans and brighter make up palettes. The look uses a bold blaze of colour around the face in a lighter shade which is created by colouring thin slices of hair in foil packets and tightly packing them together, resulting in one thick colour flash. The foils are positioned to complement up or down styles and hair worn in a natural parting. The Eclipse Colour Technique oozes versatility and consequently can be worn by any generation. For a soft yet stylish look, the classic eclipse is the incarnation of style. The Eclipse section is coloured using blend tones that work in harmony with the existing hair colour, leaving a soft hue and a brightening flash of light around the face to enhance and complement features. Generation ‘y’ can wear the acid eclipse, a bold look achieved by bleaching the Eclipse section to a clean even blonde, and then toning with a ‘crazy colour’ in the desired shade – whether this is pink, blue or violet, for a playful younger finish.
For mature hair, the charcoal eclipse technique serves to make grey hair chic and stylish. Eclipse section is coloured with Charcoal tones to prevent a brassy unflattering fade. Jaclyn Smith, Colour Director at the Jo Hansford Salon in the heart of Mayfair, who is the go-to for celebrities including Erin O Connor, Zara Martin and Georgia Jagger says ‘Eclipse is a chic yet bold technique for all ages. It gives hair a fun, summer vibe, with a multi-tonal effect to complement natural tones and enhance facial features. A-list celebrities such as Salma Hayek, Heather Graham and Sarah Jessica Parker are already rocking the look with success’. The Eclipse technique is available from Jo Hansford salon priced from £155. As with any colour style, ensuring your hair stays healthy and nourished is essential and investing in key colour products like the Jo Hansford Intensive Masque (rrp £27.00, 150ml) or Illuminoil (rrp £29.00, 50ml) can help. Jo Hansford colour care products are available to buy from Harvey Nichols, in store at Jo Hansford salon and at www.johansford.com

It’s that time of the year...
I
t’s that time of the year once again when we all hope to welcome our gardens and outdoor spaces back into our lives. This winter has been a particularly harsh, extreme and lengthy one and the sooner it is well and truly behind us the better. One can feel the urge and craving for people to once again experience the longer, warmer evenings in the open air. I think we would all agree that gardens are a very important and integral part of the overall package when buying, or indeed simply owning a house. The importance of gardens cannot be overestimated which is underlined by landscapers and garden designers cropping up everywhere. Developers and clients alike realise the importance of creating what is in effect an extension of the house which they can use and appreciate for as much of the year as possible. People want to bring the outside in which is why we have seen an increase in bi-folding doors of all lengths and sizes. As much as we love well-manicured lawns, people want areas of creativity and interest and we now see elaborate sound systems, water features, sunken fire pits, wonderful barbecue areas, beautiful al fresco dining areas and the list goes on and on.

n the same way that you become accustomed to fine wine and luxury cars, picture and sound quality is no different. For people who work in the music business this makes finding home entertainment system of the highest quality a real challenge. When Chris Evans, the radio star with over 20 years’ experience of working in studios was looking for a home cinema, his expectations were understandably high. After
Our listening rooms are the only place in the uk where clients can experience music and film that is indistinguishable from the live performance. Our Steinway Lyngdorf music and home cinemas are the only systems that will satisfy musicians, audio professionals and anyone really familiar with live music. ‘After a demonstration of 4 of our different home cinema systems, Chris and Natasha decided upon a Steinway
‘There is no other system that can reproduce music and film so perfectly...’ a couple of false starts he made the trip to Gecko’s private listening rooms in Newbury – a place that is something of a Mecca for music and film lovers. Gecko’s Rob Sinden has been designing and installing home cinemas for over 25 years. Today, his client list reads like a who’s who of the film and tv industry. After running a home cinema store in Chelsea’s Kings Road for 10 years, in 2006 he relocated to the peaceful Berkshire countryside. ‘If you were looking for the best sports car, you would head to the race track, its exactly the same with the best music and home cinema systems. You need a dark, silent space to experience them at their very best and this sort of space is almost impossible to find in London.’ explains Rob.
Lyngdorf home cinema. There is no other system that can reproduce music and film so perfectly and it’s also unique in not requiring a highly treated listening room for best results. This means the best possible sound quality can be achieved without expensive and unsightly wall treatments.’ The system was completed in time for Christmas and since then the Evans family have ploughed their way through several box sets. Chris is something of a technophobe but he has clearly fallen in love with watching movies and tv on the big screen. richard miers talks to sue seakens
Good garden design
W
hen Richard Miers and I met this February to talk about his work I was immediately struck by the aura of calm which seems to surround him. As we chatted about his early interest in growing things, his current garden design projects and his future aspirations, it was obvious that Richard has found the perfect way to spend his days. His passion for design goes so much further than the drawings. He told me that ‘gardens are not paintings; they must come to life, developing and encompassing new ideas’ and to ensure that this is happening Richard likes to revisit his gardens at least once a year if possible. When I asked Richard how he likes to relax and unwind he said simply ‘gardening and gardens’. As a young child he had been fascinated by growing things for the dining table, and still is. He loves to travel, visiting famous houses and gardens, gathering ideas from history as well as latest techniques from around the world. His advice to anyone starting out in life is to ‘do something you love’ …and he certainly does. Richard has been designing gardens for over 15 years, both in the uk and abroad, including a country garden for a grade 1 listed house in Norfolk, a 15 acre garden for a new build Palladian mansion in Surrey and numerous town gardens in London. He was lauded as one of the top ten up and coming garden designers by House and Garden Magazine in February 2011, Richard was chosen to represent the United Kingdom in the 2012 Gardening World Cup in Nagasaki Japan, his garden ‘Serenity’ is pictured far left. Despite being rooted in a time-honoured tradition, Richard’s gardens are clean, classical and contemporary in style, with a strong sense of geometry. If there is a theme that runs through his work it is the curved hedging that winds its way through his herbaceous borders or stands out in sensuous baroque curves against lawn or gravel. Symmetry is also important, coupled with a sense of balance and proportion, resulting in gardens that are both harmonious and elegant.
County Concierge | Spring 2014 21
Richard’s design ethos is that ‘good garden design is all about teamwork and communication’ and he strongly believes that people skills are as essential as sound horticultural knowledge. For a good designer being approachable and open to ideas are key, translating those ideas coherently to both clients and contractors. Richard’s top tips when starting on a garden project:
He told me that ‘gardens are not paintings; they must come to life, developing and encompassing new ideas

Blooming silk
A
s Spring is upon us, and with Summer rapidly approaching, silk flower arrangements are becoming more and more popular. The quality has improved immensely, and the resemblance to fresh flowers is remarkable. They’re virtually indistinguishable from the real thing and not only do they last longer, but there are no pollen stains or worries about dehydration. Some argue that you can’t beat the smell of fresh flowers, but scented sprays for silk flowers make them a cut above the rest. While green and white have always been and will remain contemporary yet classic, the summer is bringing with it a shift in style towards brighter and bolder colours. With the uk renowned for its unpredictable weather, it’s no wonder that one would embrace any opportunity for a splash of extra colour around the home this season. As summer approaches, we are seeing lots of rich, deep reds and Cerise pinks that bring a vibrant burst of colour to any room. We’re also finding that floral arrangements with an earthy vibe are very in; trends are definitely leaning towards a more natural look packed with organic elements. The pairing of bright silk flowers with twigs and grass creates a beautiful contrast. Finishing the display off with a wood or stone vase can really help to tap into the organic feel that so many are hoping for. Treat yourself to a silk flower arrangement this summer, or design one for yourself if you’re feeling creative. You’ll have house guests fooled, and you’ll be hooked.

Unfortunately we have nearly fished our Bluefins to extinction and the Skipjack stocks, although healthy, are unsustainable, so why not try it with some farmed salmon or a nice deep red piece of Loch Etive trout. SALMON NICOISE Ingredients 200g Salmon per person, cooked with skin crispy 150g French green beans 2–3 salad potatoes per person 4 soft boiled eggs 200g baby plum tomatoes 8 anchovies (fresh not tinned) 100g pitted olives (your favourites) 300g Cos lettuce, for crunch and some softer leaves 6 tbsps top quality fruity olive oil 2 tbsps top quality red wine vinegar tsp of Dijon mustard
‘Place all the ingredients in the bowl with the dressing and mix with clean hands, serve and top with Salmon.’
Instructions Cook your green beans in plenty of boiling water for 6 minutes and then remove with a slotted spoon and straight into a bowl of iced water. This will stop them from continuing to cook and they will retain their bright green colour Add your potatoes to the bean water and cook them for 15 minutes or until soft, remove to the ice bowl once your beans have been removed Whisk your oil, vinegar and mustard in your serving bowl and season Place all the ingredients in the bowl with the dressing and mix with clean hands, serve and top with Salmon However, you might have your own ideas, so let our team know your likes and desires, and we can create a gastro feast for you to remember – foodcrew@ thegreatfoodcompany.co.uk, or call us on 0118 373 2311.

a perfect match
and the dogs and horses are happy
L
ast summer a friend called and asked if I was still involved in housesitting, a business I had been growing and nurturing for a couple of years. Despite having a groom and an au pair that summer she found there was a week when she had no one to care for her horses in the long holiday. Hence the call, and did I know of a horse and dog lover who might step in to help out for a week… My friend Sarah has an estate in West Sussex, three lively stallions and three large dogs - two Portuguese Estrellas and one South African Ridgeback. The dogs have turned out to be great family pets though originally purchased to guard her property; however, it still takes newcomers a while to be accepted to the inner circle so to speak – so this was not the easiest of housesits to match. Whenever you travel away from home it can be a little worrisome as you look for and organise the right support at home to keep things on an even keel until you return, especially when there are large pets and stabled animals involved. Tapping into my network of international, experienced and amateur house and pet sitters I found a young woman, a student, who despite her youth was an experienced horsewoman and could offer references from the stable where she had studied show jumping and eventing. They met, Harriet’s references checked out and there was a chemistry. Sarah returned from holiday to a happy stable of horses who had been well looked after and exercised. And Harriet had made several new equine and canine friends through the HouseSit Match network. If you need help finding just the right house or pet sitter for when you go away, whether for a short or a long trip, try HouseSit Match. com. We have a wide selection of sitters available across the uk and in several countries. And if you prefer to discuss your query in person…

Collection management first steps
C
ollecting is more than luxury shopping. There is a fundamental difference between those who merely acquire high-value objects, and those ‘true’ collectors, who form a coherent collection through both passion and interest. Classic advice is that collectors seek out the unusual and rare, the best quality and, of course, wherever possible, items in the best possible condition. Educating ‘the collector’s eye’ develops through visiting fairs, exhibitions, museums and galleries, and by comparing similar items. You can also learn through creating your own reference library of auction catalogues, reference books and magazine articles. It is always sensible to buy what you like. As a collection matures and grows it is natural to want to refine it. Unless you are very fortunate, financing a collection can often require a collector to ‘trade-in’ in order to ‘trade up’.
axa art’s Senior Risk Surveyor Andrew Davies says: ‘risk management is often little more than good housekeeping; simple, straightforward advice as to how best to handle and display a collection should not be seen as daunting, as it often follows a common-sense approach’. Nowadays, collection management systems are both easy and flexible to use. Arguably, the most important part of your records would be clear digital images, which can prove invaluable in recovering stolen items and can also act as a record of the item’s condition e.g. help a restorer restore a piece and warn of any changes over time. Ideally, a copy set of all records should be held securely off-site. Emma Pendrey, Account Executive at Aston Scott Ltd advises ‘knowing the financial value of objects can educate and guide the collector as to how best to locate, secure and insure them’. Specialist insurance policies operate on an ‘Agreed Value’ basis, which affords the collectors flexibility on how to set the level or basis of insurance settlement. Asset value is simply the purchase price, with auction values and retail replacement being other suggested levels. Industry professionals can recommend Valuers; they rarely cost more, and if you use these expert services then insurance companies, such as axa art, would not make any additional premium charges. Remember, collector or connoisseur, ultimately collecting should be fun! bb and Flow’ is a photographic exhibition by renowned Chinese photographer, Qin Yuhai. Opening in the uk in London at the Saatchi Gallery, from 11–15 June 2014, it is presented by Fuhai Culture Development Ltd, an organisation engaged in art and culture from Beijing, China, and features a world exclusive of new studies of water taken from the Chinese landscape over a period of many years. Exhibition by Qin Yuhai saatchi gallery, 11–15 june 2014 central China’s Henan Province. The photographs, taken on a 10x8 camera, are the result of years of learning and understanding how best to represent the essence of water. At the same time, the exhibition is an exploration of the nature and language of photography. Qin Yuhai comments: ‘Water always fascinates me and tranquility overcomes me every time I fix the lens of my camera on it. My sense of self and the world vanishes and in my mind’s eye water becomes alive. The photographs in this exhibition are abstract yet they express my freedom from the bondage of the real world and my very self. They highlight my adherence to the philosophical call for harmony between nature and man. The beauty of water is beyond description; curves and colours are used to present water as a substance without a smell. Ripples and waves are intended to present the freedom of water from any fixed shape or form. Photography is my immutable way of life and water is the subject of a lifelong artistic pursuit.’ Hiroji Kubota, multi-award winning Japanese contemporary photographer, says: ‘Qin’s works
achieve an indescribable visual impact on the viewer. The glistening waves seen in his photos and the light that dances across the water’s surface lure the viewer into pondering the countless changes water assumes in volume, colour and shape. Only by possessing the keenest comprehension of Chinese culture can a person create art of this calibre. Visitors will marvel at the wonder water generates and will find a sudden love and admiration for it.’ Qin Yuhai was born in 1953 in Tailai County, Heilongjiang Province in China. He has been taking photographs most of his life and has won many awards. This is his first exhibition in London. skiing on carpet?
I’ll try anything once! issy wiggins
I
have been an avid skier since my very first experience in the Cairngorms at 12 years old. Our school was fortunate enough to be a 3 hour drive to the ski slopes and we had our very own ‘Outdoor Pursuits’ teacher. He was also a mad keen skier and took any opportunity to get a bunch of kids in the school minibus and drive to the mountains. We often stayed in cold, remote hostels with dormitory rooms where we would stay up as late as possible talking through the night. They were my only experience of sleepovers when I was younger. Learning to ski on the slope of Cairngorm in wet and often windy conditions avoiding sheep obviously helped me to get a real feel for the mountain as I progressed to a passion for off piste skiing and in particular heli-skiing. Since then I have tried every type of skiing from grass skiing, indoor snow domes, snowboarding, cat skiing to heli skiing. My first heli skiing was in Canada and cost a small fortune, but was worth every penny and left me with many wonderful memories. I also put myself through the dry slope training at our local artificial slope and taught for a year part time which kept my ski legs strong for the following season. It’s been a while since I have been on anything other than snow, so was intrigued to be invited to test drive the new artificial ski slope at SkiPlex in Woodley, Reading. The center opened last year and was the third to open in the south of England, one in Basingstoke and the other in Chiswick both offering lessons from beginner to advanced. There are two ‘slopes’ at the centre which were both giving lessons at the time I visited. I was teamed up with a complete beginner who had never skied before. Having some

knowledge of how long the learning curve is for a beginner, I was impressed to see my fellow guinea pig develop from first time standing to snow plough all within a period of 30 minutes. The fear factor is taken away totally with the help of a bar at chest height that you can hold onto and a reflective window in front of you so that you can see your posture. The carpet-like material is soft to fall on and there is always an instructor at hand to push the button and stop the roller. No gaps to trap fingers or break wrists and it’s indoor in the warmth, yes I worked up a sweat and my legs had felt like they had used some old muscles. I will definitely be back to give it another try and improve my style, it was great fun and something that everyone in the family can do.

The Anchor Ripley reopens RAI SI NG THE BAR FO R PUB F O O D IN T H E V ILLAGE
T
‘It is fantastic opportunity to be part of the launch team of such an historic pub...’ Iain McArthur Manager
he Anchor, one of Ripley’s oldest pubs, has now been renovated and is open for business. With original features having been uncovered, along with a sympathetic but thorough restoration, the resulting pub is fresher and brighter. A well-priced, interesting menu, and great ales and wines at affordable prices, plus a reservations book already full of bookings, indicate that it is destined to become a popular venue for local families. Local restaurateurs Steve and Serina Drake are behind the venture, with additional private investment from local friends and neighbours Chris and Lisanne Mealing. Steve and Serina’s eponymous restaurant Drake’s has a Michelin star and is rapidly rising up the ‘foodie league tables’ and The Anchor’s head chef is Michael Wall-Palmer, who was behind the stove in Drake’s for some years. The Anchor, parts of which date back to the 16th Century, is a separate business from Drake’s and its ethos is that of a relaxed, familyoriented village pub serving ‘simple, but creative pub food, with great ales and interesting wines, all at very affordable prices.’ A concise, simple yet interesting menu is served all day. Snacks available at just £4.50 a portion include Pork Crackling – Baked Apple Sauce; Fish Fingers – Pollock Croquettes and Seaweed Mayonnaise; and Welsh Rarebit. Sharing plates of cold meats or British cheeses are served with homemade chutney (£7.50 and £9 respectively) and a fabulous selection of ‘Afters’ all at £6 include Baked Apple Custard with Granny Smith Sorbet, and Chocolate Tart with Stout Ice Cream. The manager of The Anchor is Iain McArthur, from Great Bookham, whose career has spanned Effingham Golf Club, a luxury game lodge in South Africa, and South Lodge Hotel in Horsham. Latterly he was at Cisswold House Hotel near Horsham. Commenting on his new role, McArthur says: ‘It is fantastic opportunity to be part of the launch team of such an historic pub, especially a kitchen team with such a brilliant food ‘pedigree’. The Anchor also has a long history with cyclists and we will look forward to – once again – being a destination for cycling enthusiasts, as well as being a friendly and welcoming village pub.’

magine you are diagnosed with cancer. How can you access the best private cancer treatments and technologies without delay? The shock of the news, and the difficulty of getting guidance on the best place to go for the most expert treatment, can send anyone reeling. People are often torn between making a quick decision to speed their journey to treatment and the best decision to maximise their chances of recovery. Harley Street Cancer Concierge (hscc) was founded to help people navigate through these difficult decisions and fast track them to the right private cancer doctors, clinics and treatments in London. hscc also manages the often confusing and frequently changing cycle of appointments that ensue, and even organises its patients’ travel and hotel accommodation needs. In this way hscc helps to alleviate cancer sufferers’ stress and anxiety, and gets them treated quickly by the best doctors.
Cancer Concierge finding the best private cancer doctors, clinics and treatmnents fast Justin Stebbing, Professor of Cancer Medicine, Imperial College London says ‘The burden of cancer is significant and can be overwhelming and confusing for patients. Having treated a number of hscc patients they are better prepared for treatment and less anxious, which has benefits all round. This is a much needed service.’ From the initial enquiry, hscc takes care of every detail. A dedicated manager meets patients at their point of arrival in London and acts as guide, supporter and advocate. They will attend medical consultations, ensuring that the patient’s treatment path is organized smoothly without them having to worry about practicalities. Some studies suggest patients that have good levels of support and controlled anxiety levels do better. Medical bills are audited and costs are managed, with patients often benefitting from preferential treatment rates. hscc wants people to feel confident they’re in good hands; it’s fully endorsed by London’s top cancer centres and is totally independent to give you the peace of mind that your interests are its priority.

Hot Wedding trends for Summer
I
think it’s safe to say we’re all in desperate need of shaking off the winter blues this year more than ever. And there’s nothing more summery than the wedding season where things seriously hot up for us here at The Bespoke Wedding Company as our often year-long wedding planning efforts come to fruition. So what’s sizzling hot and on-trend for this coming summer?
1 Different zone, different design – more and more of my couples want their guests to experience not just one ‘theme’ or ‘feel’ to their celebration but sometimes 3 or 4. One recent example moved from a cosy classic historical venue with the very best of tradition for the ceremony and dinner with what I would call white wedding elegance moving to punchy, voluminous, ‘in your face’ colourful and opulent party zone. 2 Ceilings and roofs – this year it’s not just about what goes on the dining tables in terms of look but focusing on the roof space particularly where marquees are concerned. Hanging lanterns, architectural flowers, light installations, bespoke marquee linings, and décor, particularly attractive for those who like the idea of designing their own marquee but aren’t looking for the white marquee look. 3 Later in the day weddings – the late start/black tie event starting around 5pm is in vogue. This leads beautifully into more of a dinner-dance than the traditional daytime-into-evening affair. I’m a huge fan of the shorter wedding celebration as it leaves so much more scope to really deliver the ‘wow factor’ for guests. It keeps them constantly entertained and leaves them wanting more, rather than having any extra time to fill. 4 The return of the photo album – yes we’re actually printing photos again! We all appreciate the flexibility that having all wedding photos as high resolution files can bring to share and distribute, but many couples have been finding over the years that they don’t actually do anything with them and they sit digitally, unappreciated and unviewed for a long time. More and more of my couples are interested in some kind of album, storybook, canvas prints or way of really using and showing off their fabulous wedding images.
And remember, it’s not too late to inject some of these elements into your wedding. If you anticipate needing a hand pulling things together then do give us a call or drop us an email and we’ll talk through how we can help.
