WEATHER REPORT, 1957 JANUARY.—The rainfall total was 1.22 ins. considerably below the average and the sunshine at 58.0 hours was near the normal. The generally mild character of the weather resulted in a mean temperature of 41.6°, nearly 3° above the average 1902 - 41. Ground frosts occurred on 14 nights compared with, as a matter of interest, 21 nights in April, 1956. FEBRUARY.—Here again the mildness of the weather was the chief feature. It was also wet. Winds from a southerly point were predominant. The total rain was 2.63 ins. The sun total was 73.8 hours, and the mean temperature was 42.0°, 12° higher than Feb., 1956, and over 3° above average. MARCH.-—The remarkable mildness of this winter was continued with a mean temperature for the month of 48° nearly 6° above the average 1902 - 41. The rain was a little below the average and the sunshine was also a little low in amount. There was a temperature of 66° on the 13th. APRIL.—A very dry month with a total rainfall of only .30 in. The fourth consecutive April with a rain total of less than one inch. The temperature was, however, nearer the normal for the time of year. In fact, the mean temperature for April was below that of March. Snow, sleet and hail feil on three days. Sunshine was very near the average at 151 hours. R. R. WILSON, Belstead Hall.
