DIENERELLA SEPARAT DA REITT. (COL., LATHRIDIIDAE), NOT D. ELONGATA (CURT.) FROM ST AVERTON PARK, SUFFOLK R . C . WELCH
In t h e list of C o l e o p t e r a r e c o r d e d f r o m Staverton Park d u r i n g 1972 and 1973 by W e l c h & H a r d i n g (1974), I r e c o r d e d a Single Cartodere elongata ( C u r t . ) collected on 21 J u n e 1972 in t h e bracket f u n g u s Piptoporus betulinus on a fallen birch in t h e P a r k . D . R. Nash (1980) in describing various Suffolk L a t h r i d i i d a e r e f e r s to t h e a b o v e record of Dienerella elongata as being the 'first reliable' r e c o r d f o r the C o u n t y . I have recently had cause t o check my s p e c i m e n s of Dienerella and find that m o s t , including t h e Staverton P a r k s p e c i m e n , are D. separanda R e i t t . T h e elytral c h a r a c t e r s described by A . A . Allen (1967) m a k e f o r easy Separation of these t w o species, especially if o n e has b o t h species side by side for c o m p a r i s o n .
