RECORDS
The following Information is needed to qualify as a survey record: 1. The name of the species recorded. 2. The date, or at least the season of the year, when the sighting was made. 3. The name of the locality where the sighting was made. (A 4 or 6 figure grid reference would be very useful here.) 4. Any additional details, e.g. the numbers observed; if the site was used for breeding; details of the habitat, etc. 5. The name and address of the observer. Dead specimens, amphibian spawn or larvae, and snake sloughs also qualify for inclusion as records. I am also interested in older records, particularly those made since 1970. All information will be treated as confidential. For those members who are not well-versed in the art of reptile and amphibian identification, the British Herpetological Society now offers an identification guide. Anyone who requires a copy should write to me at my home address, enclosing 50p and a S.A.E. at least 9 in. x 6 in. Distribution map to show from where records of reptiles or amphibia have already been received. Readers will see that there are no recorded sightings of 'common' species such as frogs from many areas and therefore there is a real need for reports of even the most common species.
