MY STORY I have always been the motivation for myself. After studying Architecture I realised that I am equally interested in the relationship of the building structure with its surroundings. Being in Urbanism clearly pushed my interests towards socio-spatial processes in the city and urban design. I like working on multi-scalar projects and exploring new fields everyday.

- Me
I am an urbanism graduate from the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft, The Netherlands. Previously, I studied Architecture in AMU, India which brought a sense of built environment in my life. Before pursuing urbanism in Delft I was an architect back in India working for Archohm, Noida on a commercial project of Jai Prakash Narain International Convention Center. I love being my own motivation which has given me the drive to work towards creating a sustainable and inclusive world. I like working on problems as small as fixing a pin to issues like social inequality and climate change which requires thorough research, empirical knowledge, and a designer’s instinct. I believe in humanitarian architecture and urbanism, where I try making cities for living creatures and not for the nonliving machines. In the field of urbanism, I have concentrated on projects in South Asia dealing with a human scale in India & China. The recent research is about gender sensitive urban design in India where inequality is surpassed by crime against women. I aim to achieve the “Right to the City for women who are almost half the population of the country. For me, it is never late to begin with power being in the hands of the people to change their surroundings. I help them reorganize, plan and reinvent their immediate settings and environment so they steer themselves towards a better future. This portfolio is a story of a budding architect and urban designer through design projects and beliefs displayed in my projects and design skills. You would see a more practical approach in all the academic projects as well. - Sugandha Gupta

#WOMENSPATIALACTIVISM
1.
#Womenspatialactivism is an urbanism approach #Womenspatialactivism devised in this project aiming towards re-appropriation of spaces by women in New Delhi, India. The concept of #WomenSpatialActivism is the reclamation of the front door by an old woman, the street by a working girl and the public park by mothers. It aims to spread in the city through digital media. The women spatial activism is an urban designer’s approach which has three main components. These are the physical charter and physical interventions into space, a social stakeholder structure that connects the stakeholders (knowledge, financial and implementation partners) to implement the project and record the feedback of the interventions for its further scope and the third component is the digital structure which includes a mobile application She-Connect that allows women to travel together from the same source to the same destination. Gender Sensitive Urban Design in Carnisse , a neighborhood of Rotterdam Zuid was chosen as the topic, motivated from the interviews of women in Rotterdam-Zuid. The main issues were the functions, strollers inaccessibility in terms of standing spaces, safety in public spaces, transparency, privacy and vision. Carnisse is a neighborhood that lacks in social index and safety . Public Realm in the area has many opportunities to make the space safer and more lively for the Rotterdam women citizens. After the Spatial Biographies done in the analysis it has been realized that public transport, movement and daily shopping activities are the most important part of the daily life of 70% women of the neighborhood. An urban furniture piece is designed for the children to play and the adults to sit. Therefore, the market area of the Pleinsweg is chosen as the target area for in-depth Public space spatial Design. Spaces & Gateways - Hutongs, China
4.
Hutongs in china are traditionally very narrow streets and are the oldest part of Beijing. This project started with street analysis and street patterns and followed towards designing one street in detail with a basic strategy of one way for the whole block. Whole to part and part to whole strategy adapted for the whole project can show incredible results. Identifying opportunistic areas for tourism, businesses and small commercial shops inside the Hutongs can bring in the money for the development of the street profiles. Small interventions of wayfinding, signages, clear transformations and segregation of spaces can prevent a lot of clutter and provide magnificent results in terms of improvement of mobility, lifestyle standards and spaces for various human activities. Urban Human activities recognition and application of design elements according to the activities is the main focus of the project. JPN Convention Center, India
5. Creating a unique, iconic and green state of the art facility is the main idea behind the design . The building has been designed as an extension of the Ram Manohar Lohia park in Lucknow, India. The building emerges out of the park and the greenery of the park flows on to the building. I worked mainly on the sections of the building and worked out the area under steel arches for the multipurpose court and swimming area. Group housing, gurgaon, India
6.
A solution to the problem of mass housing & human proportions:- The new neighborhood will accommodate some 2,600 people by providing 600 dwelling units. Variety in scale and texture contributes to a balanced urban fabric which includes four housing solutions: towers, executive apartments, executive floors and villas catering for a broad range of budgets and family types. This enables people to stay within the development as they move through different stages of life, further reinforcing the sense of community making a space worth interacting and enjoyable. Solution Provided :- A housing solution is given providing Biogas generators, STP plant ,beautifully landscaped areas, connection of pool water with flushing system. Sustainability by providing space to each apartment for future extension. Each apartment is designed to be open from 3 sides based on swastik composition. Self sustainable city was the main idea behind , solar panels provided for atleast common utilities and kitchen gardens are given in every villa. Model making & graphics
7. A keen inclination towards the expression of the idea drives me towards making models, calligraphy & graphical representation. Also due to nurturing of the art from childhood year, making complicated things, designing, painting and expressing through art has been a hobby now. The Nandyavarta Indian town planning model has won cash prizes and was made with precision and a lot of visual modeling as there are no presets for that time of towns. The hand drawings are just an example of the interests in sketching by hand and consideration of hand as the best tool to express views and own perspectives. Graphic designing also grew with a lot of interest and over the years but these past two years I have developed a lot due to better understanding of ADOBE creative suite. I like experimenting models in different softwares. Time Frame: Since 2009 Skills used: Adobe Creative Suite, Hand Drawings Team: Individual
