Adrena looks anything but monotonous in this monochramtic ‘fit. Her royal-colored Zip Up Jeggings are a perfect match for the Zola Hi-Lo Tank. With such an ornate outfit, accessories aren’t exactly top priority, but our Pocahontas Hoops will tie the look together with ease. Besides, what outfit is complete without a cute pair of fringe hoops?

Look effortless in the Deetz Dolman Blouse. Pair a more dramatic piece with a classic pair of skinnies; you can’t go wrong with our Nikki Mid Rise Ankle Jean. Complet with essential accents - such as NOIR’s Resin Fan Ring and Metal Plate Link Set. Last but definitely not least, an outfit is never complete without a shoe to tie it all together; Matiko Sachi shoe does more than tie, it buckles the look into completion.

Tell us a little bit about your background. What path brought you to Lingerie? I started off in fiber and material studies at SAIC and did some textile printing. I’ve always been interested in fashion so I ended up taking a day term class in lingerie making which taught me more formal skills in pattern making and I just kind of fell in love with it after that. Who inspires you? i’ve always loved the Dolce and Gabbana lingerie collection because they’ve always – at least for the past few years- they’ve been really good. They had a bejeweled collection that was embellished in Swarovski crystals. And then they had this 1950s pin up line and Beyonce wore one of the pieces in one of her videos. It was mostly red and black a with pretty pattern all over it.
you are personally thinking of becoming more involved in advocacy for women so what are your thoughts on that and how do you feel as a “feminist lingerie designer”? I don’t really connect them. I’m not making lingerie politically but I can see my design practice through the lens of feminist culture. By being empowered and, you know, dressing how ever you want without any restraints or restrictions based on societies view on women. And I think its ok to be girly. I think we’re in a time where you can be a really powerful woman and have a really feminine side at the same time. You don’t have to dress like a man to be a strong woman. I believe in being able to be an intellectual and also letting that free you from the 1970s notion of feminism and how you have to reject everything womanly that has to do with how you’re projecting yourself and your image in society. How do you see the future for your designs?
Well. It’s really hard to stay motivated in Chicago. There’s not a lot support for fashion designers. Graphic and interior design…those Would you call that your research, so to speak? Music videos are a more acceptable form of art here in Chicago, as in a lot of cities, and designers? but because fashion isn’t as “practical”, it’s very hard to stay motivated. There isn’t as much of a support system and there aren’t opportunities No…I usually get ideas for designs when I find the materials. but there are really great museums and things. The fashion departUsually thrifting. Or I just get an idea for design based on the texture or the color of the material or how much of the material ment at SAIC is really great, especially their annual fashion show can be really inspiring but I think beyond that, it’s pretty difficult and I’m is available to me, I have to work around that constraint. still figuring out how to deal with that as a Chicago resident. Instead of having an idea and finding material to cater to the Do you think you would ever move your practice? idea, you allow the material to manifest your design? Yes, the material usually dictates the design. So. You like Beyonce?
At the moment, its one of the biggest, cheapest cities to live in. Space wise, for sure. Right now I have a work/live situation – my studio is in my apartment. I think it would be difficult to find that in New York for the price I pay now…so no but I’m still figuring it out.
Of course. I also, of course love Rihanna. I can’t really put my finger on anyone that I’m really trying to emulate at the moment. I usually just take bits and pieces and get ideas.
Do you have any advice for young creative ladies out there, our young sugar flies with dreams?
Bits and pieces! I wanted to ask about the line you draw to connect your work in lingerie with your passion for women’s issues. It obviously doesn’t show up blatantly in your work but
I think you just need to figure out what you want and do what you can until you make it. The economy is really rough right now, especially for people in what some would call “non-essential” fields, but I

The best way to accessorize a gold dress is with .. more gold, of course! The Snow Ball & Spike Hoops are a great touch of spunk to an otherwise feminine frock. Not to mention Emily’s Triple Spike Stretch Cuff and Urchin Bracelet, that graduates the look from a 10 to a 10.5.
