Welcome to today’s performance of Tuck Everlasting. This beautiful story teaches us to embrace life and cherish each moment we have – what a perfect sentiment as we enter the holiday season. It’s hard to believe that what started as a youth drama program to fill those long summer days, would grow into such a reputable and widely respected children’s theatre troupe. Much of St. Albert Children’s Theatre’s success can be attributed to staff, parents, Board members and dedicated volunteers, and their tireless commitment to cultivate a lifelong love of theatre arts in our youth. I believe that encouraging our children to participate in the arts helps them grow confidence and develop leadership skills, commitment, dedication, team participation and respect – skills that will serve them well in all facets of life. We are pleased to have such a wonderfully talented group in St. Albert and encourage you to attend future productions and/or participate in performing arts programming offered through the City. Anyone of any age can get involved in performing arts. Now sit back and enjoy the show! Cathy Heron Mayor, City of St. Albert, The Botanical Arts City

“You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live!” What wonderful, inspirational and wise words from Angus Tuck, patriarch of the Tuck family. The Friends of St. Albert Children’s Theatre Society is very pleased to welcome you to Tuck Everlasting. Based on Natalie Babbitt’s classic children’s novel of the same name, this musical adaptation will charm you and captivate your imagination. Let yourself be inspired as you watch the fabulous cast of young actors bring life to the stage and music to your ears. The teamwork, enthusiasm, and dedication of the directors, technicians, performers, staff, Arden volunteers, and parents come together to create this memorable production. Every individual maintains an important role drawing on the support of one another. After months of hard work and countless hours rehearsing, singing, dancing and encouraging each other, we are sure your lives will be touched by this evening’s magical experience. We would also like to thank you, the audience, for your continued support of this wonderful program. We invite you now to sit back and enjoy your musical theatre experience. Rest assured that you can sip your water without consequence here at the amazing Arden Theatre…it’s not from the same “Everlasting” spring! ST. ALBERT CHILDREN’S THEATRE 2018

At its core, Tuck Everlasting is a beautiful story that challenges us to consider immortality, to live life to the fullest and to take inventory of what truly matters to us. On Broadway this charming production closed too soon. Let’s face it, when you’re playing in the shadow of the smash hit Hamilton it’s no surprise that a heartfelt, female-driven production couldn’t find its legs. We need this show. We need this show now more than ever. Times are changing, and technology is changing us faster than we could have ever imagined. To become more efficient with our time we are ironically finding ourselves with less and less of it. Unlike Winnie Foster, the central character, we don’t have the option of an ‘everlasting.’ We all have just one ticket for this ride called life. This holiday season we challenge every single one of you to make time for things that bring you joy. Stop and enjoy the journey. Tuck Everlasting reminds us that it’s not the years in the life…it’s the life in the years that truly matters. Have a happy and healthy holiday season!

How close is freedom for four abducted children? By AnnA Borowiecki Staff Writer In a surprising turn of world events, Dr. Saren Mahmudi-Azer, an Iranian-Canadian father wanted for allegedly kidnapping his four Canadian children last August has been detained by Iranian officials says his ex-wife. Alison Azer held a media conference in Ottawa Tuesday. She stated that the Iranian authorities, acting on Canada’s red Interpol notice, detained her ex-husband on June 12 in the province of West Azerbaijan. “He has appeared in Iranian courts, is currently out on bail with mobility restrictions, and will make another court appearance in the coming weeks,” Azer said. The St. Albert raised, Vancouver Island resident added her ex-husband is being monitored and is slated to appear before the courts in Urmina, Iran. Before he allegedly abducted the children, Saren Azer was a widely respected physician on Vancouver Island with a gold-plated career. See “Azer,” page 5

Kenney’s bid to unite right gets reaction By DoUG neUMAn Staff Writer Former federal cabinet minister Jason Kenney’s plan to seek the Progressive Conservative leadership and unite the right has prompted mixed reactions across the province and in the St. Albert area. Many who hold conservative views welcome Kenney’s announcement, delivered Wednesday in Calgary, but there are indications he may not receive such a warm reception from the PC party he hopes to lead into a merger. history

T

hirty-seven years ago, in 1981, the City of St. Albert initiated a theatre project to add to their summer activity program. The creation of St. Albert Children’s Theatre began when thirty-six children were involved in the musical production of THE HOBBIT. The Friends of St. Albert Children’s Theatre, a nonprofit society committed to the support and enrichment of young people’s drama, was formed thereafter in 1984. We hope that you will enjoy this production and continue to support the St. Albert Children’s Theatre program. • Rags to Riches (2000) • Cinderella (2000) • Charlotte’s Web (2001) • Guys and Dolls (2001) • The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood (2002) • Footloose (2002) • Pinocchio (2003) • Bye Bye Birdie (2003) • Zoom!
