Documentary on Rape
What is our proposal for the Documentary ?  We've decided that our final documentary will focus on the theme of rape and and its awareness in society. Using archived research, photos and cases of actual victims we can bring a selection of these material’s that we can use in our documentary. We want to talk about rape and its statistics within the Uk but finding several cases that have happened in other countries such as : India, Sweden, Jamaica. Looking at TV documentaries on the topic and how its changed throughout the years as it is becoming more increasingly recognized in the modern day world, as a serve act of violence.
What is rape? “Rape is any form of unwanted sexual behavior that is imposed on someone”. Rape can take any type of form such as :sexual assault, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, leering, threats, exposure, being forced to watch pornography, unwanted touching, incest, penetration, mutilation, and ritual abuse. Rape is when someone uses their power, manipulation or force to intimidate, humiliate, exploit, degrade or control another. Rape has been used as a weapon in war, in racial violence and in everyday life. Rape diminishes a person's dignity and their human rights to safety, choice and consent.
Types of Rape There are many different types of rape and here is a list of the most well known ones: Acquaintance Rape : When the victim and the rapist know each other from social encounters. E.g. – Rapes of Friends, co-workers etc. Spousal Rape/Martial /Wife or Husband: Rape between a married couple or just a couple who have not married. Gang Rape is becoming more increasingly known in several parts of the uk as well as other countries. It is when a group of people participate in the rape of a single victim. Minor Rape: When a child is rape by an adult, this can be anything from, a parent or a close relative, school teachers.
Statistics on Rape In January 2013 the ministry of justice, office of of national statistics released its first joint bulletin on sexual violence in England and wales. It is reported that approximately 85,000 women are raped on average In England and wales every year. 400,000 women are sexually assaulted each year. 1 in 5 women aged between 16-59 has experienced some form of sexual violence in the uk alone.
Cases of Rape - Orissa Nun Case
Date – 25/08/2008 Victim – Sr. Meena Lalita Barwa, 29 roman catholic NUN Accused – 50 Hindu Extremists of Bajrang Dal. The mob dragged her from the place she was hiding to the diocesan social action center and raped her. Instead of stopping the mob the police stood there and watched the whole show.
Rape/murder Case - Hannah Foster Date: 14/03/2003 Victim – 17 year old student Hannah Foster from Southampton. Accused – Maninder pal Singh kohli, 41 Hannah was accompanied by a friend when they went drinking and while she was retuning home alone manider saw her and took his car abducted her and took her to a deserted place and raped her.
