A Message from the Head of School “Until the child has learned, you have not taught.” Founding Head of School Louise Futtrell uttered these words 80 years ago and Summit teachers continue to live their meaning each day. At Summit, our children are surrounded by teachers who serve as mentors and models—encouragers and friends— who engage them in the present and prepare them for the future. In the past year alone, our teachers have engaged students in a staggering variety of high-caliber learning experiences—all of which are made possible through the philanthropy of Summit’s supporters—including:
Founded 1933
• An iPad research project designed in collaboration with Wake Forest University • A compacted math program for gifted students • A collaborative vehicle design project with engineers from the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology • A robust service learning program focusing students on engaging in civic responsibility • Online courses that tap individual student interests • Immersion-based foreign language instruction in the Lower School • A new Upper School choral program
