This publication has certainly transformed over the years, starting with humble roots of just a few pages highlighting properties in Park City and Deer Valley ®. We knew who we were even in those days, despite the goals being lofty and perhaps to our competitors, even brazen. What I mean by that is that Summit Sotheby’s International Realty’s foundation has always been that of how can we do more – for our clients, one another and our communities. We knew that if we committed to the client experience, never rested on our laurels and treated every moment as an opportunity to differentiate, that we would, even from Utah, redefine an international industry, make headlines and beat sales records.

art at elevation I am often struck by how much innate beauty there is to be found in this world. Our home planet is unique, ever changing and always in motion – a 4.5-billionyear-old oasis of living beauty. When we stop and take the time to reflect, pausing for breath during our endless rush through life, it’s almost impossible to miss – a raw, natural beauty surrounds and fills us all. We find it embodied in the fine architecture of the homes we sell and within the natural landscape of the lands that we call home. A singular fleeting beauty is in every sunrise and sunset, intrinsically woven throughout the mountains and forests we play in, and within the plants and living creatures that call them home. As principal dancers from Ballet West twirl and pose within the palatial rooms of an opulent mountain estate in Park City, I am reminded that there is also unique beauty within people themselves – the ways in which we express ourselves through fashion, music, movement and dance. Their dedication and the years of training required to reach such a level of excellence yields results that are both impressive and captivating. Strong, graceful limbs strike seemingly impossible poses with ease, creating a winsome duality of dynamic bodies twirling and leaping though stunning, static spaces. When we open our eyes to it, art – in all its forms – is reflected everywhere, mingling together throughout our daily lives to define and inspire human culture.

Art is precious. Some of the earliest known art made by human hands are cave paintings that were created over 44,000 years ago. Rudimentary animals, handprints and human forms were painstakingly recorded using natural pigments and, crude though they may seem now, these drawings are spectacular records of early man’s very first attempts to create art. They demonstrate that humankind has always been inspired by the world around them, and that it’s in our own human nature to seek out beauty and to then recreate it. It’s certainly inspiring, but perhaps even more so is human curiosity and our ability to grow, learn and refine our skills. When you consider the world today, it's staggering how far we’ve come. From modern medicine and technology to the world of fine art, mankind today has traveled an impossibly long way from those early, first attempts to create art. In 1744, the Sotheby’s brand was founded as an auction house and purveyor of fine art and luxury items. Today, the Sotheby’s name also encompasses real estate and represents a 278-year brand heritage with a history of unquestionable excellence. It’s a reputation we’re proud of, and one that we take seriously. As stewards of our industry, excellence is what we always strive to achieve.
