After a historic winter season that saw record-breaking snowpack across Utah, the long-awaited days of summer have arrived. As the remaining snow in the mountains retreats, wild landscapes bloom with vibrant flowers and fresh growth—a welcome change, even for our state’s most passionate winter enthusiasts.
With the change of seasons comes another edition of Collections Magazine, the awardwinning real estate and lifestyle publication from Summit Sotheby’s International Realty. How time flies—this summer issue marks our 28 th edition and I could not be more proud of what our brokerage has accomplished over the last 15 years. From our earliest days we wanted to change the way real estate was done in Utah, offering services above and beyond what the status quo dictated. We raised the bar and elevated expectations time and time again; today Collections Magazine has evolved and grown right alongside an incredible team of brokers and staff—and it’s all thanks to the Utah communities that have supported us since day one.
How do you measure success? I firmly believe much of our success can be measured by the strength of our local towns and cities, and how much we’ve been able to invest back into them—whether in dollar amounts or time spent volunteering. At Summit Sotheby’s International Realty, everything we do is centered around our communities. Our job is to sell properties, but our goal has always been to be the best in the business at being stewards of and leaders in our communities. As Utah’s industry leader, we are role models and innovators. We have a social responsibility to share our abilities and resources with others.
Beginning in 2010 and at the close of every sale since, our team has donated a portion of earnings directly into a program that we call “Summit Sotheby’s Cares”. Each year, this 501(c)(3) enables us to give back to worthy causes and non-profit groups throughout Utah. A rising tide lifts all ships—by investing our success back into the organizations that support our communities, we lift others. At the end of the day, a community isn’t just the neighborhood you live in; community is being involved and making a difference, investing into others and helping build a better place for all to grow and flourish.
I’d like to be the first to welcome you to the Community Issue of Collections Magazine. This edition is centered around the role we all have in ensuring the greater good of our communities. Throughout this publication, you’ll learn about a few of the organizations and non-profit groups we had the pleasure of supporting in the last year. I hope the following stories, which come from those who have been directly impacted by the good works of others, inspire you to do the same no matter where you call home.

What does the term community mean to you?
It’s something we’re incredibly passionate about at Summit Sotheby’s International Realty. The definition of the word com·mu·ni·ty refers to a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society. Often, it’s a simple matter of geographical location and general proximity that determines this—the country you live in, the state or territory where you reside, your city or town… even down to your neighborhood.
When we view the idea of community through a wider lens, the concept evolves into a feeling of fellowship with others—often as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.

THE YOUTH SPORTS ALLIANCE PLANTED THE SEED TO MY SUCCESS. THEIR PROGRAMS TAUGHT ME CONFIDENCE, DETERMINATION AND PERSEVERANCE—TODAY I CAN WALK INTO ANY ROOM AND FEEL ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT THAT I AM EXACTLY WHERE I BELONG.
Humans are innately social beings; we rely on one another for support. The communities we live in provide a sense of belonging and companionship. They play a crucial role in fostering social connections and a shared collective identity. Our communities also provide vital platforms for personal growth and development, offering opportunities for learning and the exploration of new interests. Many of these platforms are nonprofit organizations that exist only with the support and assistance of those around them. Groups like these make a direct difference in people’s lives right here in Utah—people you likely already know; your friends, neighbors and family. Community is important. Vital, even. Quite honestly, it’s behind everything we do at Summit Sotheby’s International Realty.

The Youth Sports Alliance was established as a legacy to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to spearhead a community-wide effort to increase the number of children participating in winter sport programs from the greater Park City area and surrounding Summit and Wasatch Counties. Today, they support seven competitive winter sports teams, after school programs and provide scholarships for junior athletes. Through these programs, Youth Sports Alliance touches the lives of more than 2,200 youth each year.

For this “Community Issue”, we decided to highlight a selection of nonprofit organizations and the Utah residents who have been impacted from their support. We’re also going to tell you about a passion project of ours, a 501(c)(3) we call “Summit Sotheby’s Cares”. Our nonprofit enables the Sales Associates, Support Staff and Leadership of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty to translate real estate successes into community action—supporting the very neighborhoods in which we call home. Nonprofit groups do wonderful things in Utah; they provide an unbelievable variety of services, educational classes and experiences in recreation, arts and music. Many of these things would not be possible without the effort of others. The results are tangible and for many, they are life-changing—altering the course of one’s entire life. Sharing the individual stories of those who have experienced the power of community demonstrates what’s possible when we join forces to help others.
Throughout these pages you’ll meet the inspiring individuals and nonprofits supported by Summit Sotheby’s Cares. One organization connects patients with organ donors; another is renowned for avalanche safety and one group focuses on Alzheimer’s research. One organization offers affordable childcare and early education for the children of working parents; another provides much needed safe shelter for children facing abuse and homelessness. There’s even a nonprofit group who has made it their mission to help Utah’s kids stay active through outdoor sports. These organizations work tirelessly day-in and day-out with one common goal: care for Utah and its people.

We recently sat down with some familiar faces, while also making some new friends, from the Alzheimer's Association-Utah Chapter, The Christmas Box International, DonorConnect, PC Tots, the Utah Avalanche Center and the Youth Sports Alliance. These are the faces and stories of individuals who inspire the work that we do with Summit Sotheby’s Cares. Their words and experiences reinvigorate us to do more and further the reach of our collective efforts.
Hang around Summit Sotheby’s International Realty long enough and you’ll hear us share that our passion for real estate is only matched by our passion for the communities we call home. And this isn’t just lip service, it’s a fact. Our brokerage is made up of proud Utahns who are equally as kind and generous as they are real estate leaders. The Utah Avalanche Center is a nonprofit organization responsible for the majority of avalanche awareness and education in Utah, as well as funding and strategic management of their partnership with the United States Forest Service. The Utah Avalanche Center has become the wellrespected leader of this field, developing the most effective approaches to saving lives through making avalanche forecasting, education, awareness and professional development readily available to backcountry travelers throughout the state of Utah.
From the earliest days of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty, our team intended to change the way real estate was done. We wanted to be the very best in the business, and we hoped we could make a difference in the lives of others in the process. We decided to be excellent—not just with our clients and colleagues—but also to our communities. We believed that if we had the opportunity and means to help out, we should. Our CEO and founding leadership team always knew that a core part of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty would involve giving back.
In 2010, that vision became a reality as we created a 501(c)(3) called Summit Sotheby’s Cares. From that day forward, at the close of every sale, our agents voluntarily donate a portion of their earnings towards our Summit Sotheby’s Cares program. These funds then allow our agent-led nonprofit to collectively give back to worthy causes throughout Utah—we think of it as investing in the greater good. Summit Sotheby’s Cares has become a wildly successful passion project that’s not only close to our hearts, but is ingrained in our company culture. Our sales agents not only serve their clients, but their communities at large. Today, well over a decade later, this powerful initiative has 100% agent participation and has raised over $1,750,000—all of which has been distributed back into local nonprofit groups and organizations throughout Utah. Humbling, to say the least.

I HAD THE FORECAST. I HAD ALL THE INFORMATION. I HAD DECADES OF EXPERIENCE. AND YET—THE HUMAN FACTOR ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE RIGHT HERE AT HOME IN THE WASATCH MOUNTAINS. I'VE BEEN PRETTY VOCAL ABOUT IT AND I'VE BEEN REALLY HAPPY TO WORK WITH THE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER TO USE IT AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL. I THINK IT SPEAKS TO HOW EASY IT IS—EVEN WITH DECADES OF EXPERIENCE—TO MAKE A MISTAKE IN THESE MOUNTAINS.
I WORK IN PARK CITY AT THE PEOPLE'S HEALTH CLINIC CONNECTING PATIENTS WITH SERVICES THAT THEY NEED. I HAVE TWO KIDS AT PC TOTS. HAVING ACCESS TO SAFE AND AFFORDABLE CARE FOR MY CHILDREN HAS BEEN AN INCREDIBLE HELP FOR OUR FAMILY.

The most wonderful thing about our Summit Sotheby’s Cares program is that it has a direct effect on individuals—our neighbors—who might need and deserve extra assistance or support. The funds from this initiative are donated to worthy causes and nonprofit groups selected by our sales professionals; organizations just like the ones you’re reading about. These programs then have the financial support to provide grants, scholarships and additional funding that allows them to continue their work, providing tangible results on a local level.
The state of Utah is often praised for its fantastic livability and overall quality of life, and that has a large part to do with the people that live here. It’s Utah’s residents who really make this place so special. We are a community of pioneers and adventurers who know how to rally around a cause. We’re hard-working entrepreneurs and we’re a population of people who passionately care for those around them. When individuals unite with a shared purpose, the results are far more powerful than they ever could be alone. Groups can organize resources, pool efforts (and finances) and effect positive transformations more quickly within their society. Our company is proof of that. By working collectively, communities can amplify their voices and power to make a greater impact. For us, real estate is the means to support the areas that have embraced our company, Sales Associates and Support Staff over the last 15 years.

IN MY 27 YEARS WITH THE CHRISTMAS BOX INTERNATIONAL, MY BIGGEST LIFE LESSON IS GRATITUDE. I KNOW FIRST-HAND THAT WHEN YOU'RE BEING RAISED IN CARE, YOU'RE NOT REALLY GRATEFUL AT THE TIME. IT'S EASY TO THINK THAT NOBODY IS THERE FOR YOU. NOW, WHEN I LOOK BACK AT MY EXPERIENCE, I THINK THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT TOUCHED MY LIFE. THIS IS WHAT I SHARE WITH OUR 8–10 YEAR OLDS WHO ARE REALLY STRUGGLING: KNOW THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE THERE FOR YOU.
Our communities are only as strong as the people that call them home, but as the saying goes—it takes a village. We are stronger together, and our collective action results in greater positive social change. Yes, our professional business is real estate—but our passion will always be helping to build a better home for everyone.

Market Snapshot
The real estate market in Park City and the surrounding areas along the Wasatch Back continue to thrive during the changing economy. Increases in available home inventory have created a more balanced market, offering buyers additional options within their price range. New amenity-rich communities continue to drive interest and demand from our area’s key feeder markets.
