GERD BANNUSCHER
BIOGRAFIE Gerd Bannuscher, 1957 in Nordfriesland geboren, lebt und arbeitet als realistisch visionärer Maler in Eichede/Schleswig Holstein. Als freischaffender Künstler ist er seit 1986 tätig. 1999 begründet er mit fünf weiteren Künstlern die Gruppe „Neue Meister„. Seit 2003 arbeitet Gerd Bannuscher für das Sultanat Oman. „Woher wir kommen ist evolutionsgeschichtlich erklärbar. Ob wir unseren Verwandten noch gefühlsmäßig nahestehen und in Verantwortung dafür handeln, ist sehr fraglich. ‚Macht euch die Erde untertan’ ist wohl falsch verstanden. Manchmal kann man durch genaues ‚sehen’ und in sich ‚hineinhorchen’ auch ‚erkennen’.“ so Gerd Bannuscher. Seit vielen Jahren beschäftigt sich Bannuscher intensiv mit der Frage nach der Verbundenheit zwischen Primat und Mensch. Seit seinem Kennenlernen der Verhaltensforscherin Jane Goodlall in 2013, setzt sich Bannuscher u.a. durch Bilderspenden für Projekte des Jane Goodall Instituts zur Erhaltung der Lebensräume von Menschenaffen ein. EINZELAUSSTELLUNGEN: Hamburg, Bargteheide, Flensburg, Lübeck, Baden Baden, Stuttgart, Worpswede, Ahrensburg, Keitum/Sylt, Kopenhagen, Abu Dhabi und Miltenberg. REZENSION In 1961, when I had been studying wild chimpanzees in Tanzania for just over a year, I was told it was unscientific to give them names rather than numbers, and I should not talk about their personalities, their minds or their emotions since those were unique to us. There was, I was told, a difference in kind between ourselves and all other animals. This arrogant assumption was increasingly challenged by the information coming from my study and others of animals with big brains and complex behavior. Gradually more people came to understand that we are part of and not separated from the rest of the animal kingdom. The great apes are our closest living relatives and the difference between us is one only of degree. Art can play an important role in changing the way people think. When you look at Gerd’s powerful paintings you immediately feel the intimate connection that we have with our primate relatives. The love of a mother for her child is just as real in a chimpanzee as a human. The eyes that look back at us from his zoo chimpanzee portraits seem to ask by what right we hold them captive. We become deeply aware of our shared ancestry and are left with a new understanding of our place in nature. And shame when we think of how we are harming so many of the animals with whom we share - or should share - Planet Earth. Dr. Jane Goodall
