“Twilight Princess” By Sid Bhullar
S
id Bhullar, a 21-year-old upcoming, rap artist from Vancouver, British Columbia has begun to make a name for himself in the community. Recently, he has released his new, hit single, “Twilight Princess,” on February 25, 2019. The music video was released through the world-famous organization, known as, ‘WorldStar HipHop’. This organization, given the title of ‘Top Hip Hop and Urban Culture Website’ by BET, has been well known for promoting and supporting various, famous artists, such as: P. Diddy, Machine Gun Kelly, Tory Lanez, 6ix9ine, and many more. Currently, the organization stands at over 19.5 million subscribers on Youtube. Sid Bhullar began his rap career at the age of 12, when he released his first single ‘Won’t Stop’, sending a positive message towards Anti-Bullying awareness. He now has self-written, produced and sang over 15 singles since then. Each music video on his account has over half a million views. In his latest hit, he creates a metaphor using video game characters to depict the harsh realities of women in adultery jobs. The lyrics outline the struggles of self-confidence and self-esteem that many of these workers face through the pain of raising and providing families on the side. The metaphor creatively appeals to the young generation of millennials in this era, while the underlining message shows a strong concern towards raising awareness for gender and working equality. In controversy, some have addressed concerns towards the inappropriate dancing and borderline nudity seen in the music video. When questioned on this matter, Bhullar expressed, “My main goal is to raise awareness towards topics that affect us all in one way or another. The characters presented by these strong women, seen in the music video, have my highest respect for all the struggles they face every day. They are no different from the rest of us, and should not be treated so.” Bhullar has announced his debut album release this coming summer. He will soon be graduating from medical school, and plans to continue his singing career alongside his academics. His new track ‘Twilight Princess’ can be found on iTunes for purchase.

Business profile:
JC optical and hearing It is certainly not about how many years of experience you have; it’s about the quality of your years of experience that matters, and then immaculate planning plus a calculated risk help establish a new business like a satellite out of the gravitational orbit of uncertainty.
Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Health Coach of University of Victoria
A
s I entered into the business premises of JC optical and hearing, to have an interface, I find myself in a spic and span space, with aesthetically displayed vision products, in glittering glass cabinets - which cannot escape the entering prospective customer’s gaze, to give a good considered view to get acclimatized with latest trends in sunglasses as well as sight vision frames et al. When I turned around, I saw the first generation technically trained entrepreneur Jason Cheema, being busy attending to the queries of a prospective customer. When free, I was escorted into a cozy room, wherein I was in a brief chat to understand the 5 years journey of the captioned venture of Mr. Cheema a 33 years young Scorpion.
If an entrepreneur has conceived an idea, then there is no need to start immediately. That doesn’t mean to quit your job and jump into your idea 100% from day one, but there’s always small progress that can be made to start the venture in the near future. That is why Jason worked for 5 years in the industry and when he understood the tricks of the trade as well as trade, he opened his own and did not look back.
As I walked the talk, I came to know that Jason is a born Canadian who has been totally educated in British Columbia and Alberta. On an academic front, as per him, he pursued 2 year -Opticals Prog ending in the year 2005 and then under-
went another 3 years Hearing Course in Edmonton which he completed in 2011. During his confabulations, he informed me that he had in his mind from the beginning to be a self- employed sole proprietor. For this he wanted to learn and get fully trained in the business. So, he joined Loblaws (a Real Canadian Superstore group of companies) in Opticals department where he worked for 5 years and then he ventured to open his first enterprise in surrey BC (# 109, 12565 88 Ave, Surrey, BC V3W 3J7) in the year 2014. Since he was doing very well, he opened another store in Langley in 2017. Now both the stores are doing well, as per Mr. Cheema
When asked the reason behind opening this store at such a young age with no business in the family, he indicated with a deep breath that, “I wanted to help our community and secure my family’s future.” When I asked him the 3 basic things needed to be successful in a sole-ownership type of venture, pat came the reply, “Passion for business, best customer service and after sales, disciplinary approach, honesty and taking care of loyal customers is my idea of success.” As per him, for 3 years in a row his business has been rated number 1 by the leading Weekly Newspaper the Leader-Now. When I queried him about the strength of his business, he stated,” I have all the leading brands available plus top of the line latest equipment, well experienced professionals, cool, calm, and composed customer Service and a passion to serve my customers and dole out after sales service in succession is my strength. My biggest USP is being an owner on the shop floor which helps me to win over customers with sincerity of purpose and honesty of commitment. On the hobbies front, he loves playing Field Hockey from his school days and has a keen interest in Basketball and Soccer. In closing, I asked him where he sees himself down the lane of time after 10 years, he quantified that, he will expand in more locations in the lower mainland. In another 2 years he is will have another store see the light of day. Let us wish him success in succession

Gully Boy Movie Review: An Extraordinary Performance from Ranveer Singh
Director: Zoya Akhtar Cast: Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Verma, Amruta Subhash, SheebaChaddha, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Maurya Zoya Akhtar’s new film Gully Boy is an underdog story about a poor fellow from Dharavi whose dreams are bigger than his reality. It’s loosely based on the lives of Naezy and Divine, who made the journey from rags to rap-stars. Like them Murad, our protagonist, is determined not to let his circumstances restrict his ambition. But there are many layers to the film: it’s also about Murad’s comingof-age and his discovery and understanding of who he truly is and what he stands for. It’s about finding one’s expression, in this case, through poetry and rap. It’s also a beautiful love story, and on some level it’s a love letter to Mumbai – a city where the haves and the have-nots exist in a tentative sort of peace, where skyscrapers overlook slums, where you can be poor and still have integrity, and where dreams frequently come true. What powers these different strands are essentially two things: an extraordinary performance from Ranveer Singh as Murad. And the music and lyrics, which have as much feeling as the story and performances. In her last film Dil Dhadakne Do, Zoya tapped into a quieter, more thoughtful side of Ranveer. They build on that in Gully Boy. A big chunk of his performance in this film plays out
on his face in his expressions. There are stray moments that bristle with honesty. He gets even the little things down superbly; it’s clear that he’s an extremely intuitive, perceptive actor. One of the things I most enjoyed in Gully Boy is the love story between Murad and Safeena, the character that Alia Bhatt plays. From their very first moments on screen – marked by a lovely wordless scene in a BEST bus – it becomes clear that they have a beautiful understanding which comes from being together for many years. Safeena is a medical student and belongs to a conservative Muslim family; but Zoya and her co-writer Reema Kagti have written such a spunky character in Safeena. She loves Murad; she’s marked her territory and you don’t want to fight her. Alia is terrific in the role. So is the rest of the cast, including Vijay Verma as Murad’s car mechanic friend Moeen, Vijay Raaz as his brutal father, and Amruta Subhash as his long-suffering mother. The standout though is a young actor named Siddhant Chaturvedi who plays MC Sher, the rapper who takes Muradunder his wing, and introduces him to the world of rap battles. He’s got a charming presence and leaves a lasting impression. Less compelling is a subplot involving Kalki Koechlin’s character Sky, an affluent, US-returned musician who takes a keen interest both in Murad’smusic and him. Aside from a few such plot points that I wasn’t entirely convinced about, my only really issue with the film is its length. Per-
haps because there’s so much going on onscreen, and because the filmmakers take the trouble to tie up each character’s story, the film is way too long. It’s nearly two and a half hours and that’s too long for a film whose basic story arc – the underdog narrative – is actually quite predictable. But those minor nigglings aside, I think Gully Boy is one of Zoya Akhtar’s stronger films; in fact for me it ranks right up there with her extraordinary first film Luck By Chance. I enjoyed the world she creates here, the characters that inhabit this world, and the paces she puts them through. Without overtly drawing attention to it, she makes a strong feminist statement in Safeena’s character, some sharp observations about minorities, and also about the world we live in and the place in it for those with lesser means. That’s a lot to pack into a film that works on surface level as a highly entertaining musical drama. I came away with an appreciation for Indian hip-hop, which frankly I knew nothing about until now. I’m going with four out of five for Gully Boy. I loved this film from inside my bones. Rating: 4/5 Cortsey: Rajeev Masand News18
Kangana Ranaut’s biopic: All you need to know about the film
A
fter getting raving reviews about her performance in her directorial debut film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, her next directorial project will be her own story. According to a source close to the development, the film will be scripted by Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra, who is also the writer of Manikarnika. The film will go on floors in October-November. Sources also suggest that Kangana already has her technical crew in place from Manikarnika, who she is keen on to work with for her production films. On reaching out to Kangana, she said, “Yes, it is true, my own story is the subject of my next directorial. But it is not a propaganda film with characters who are starkly black and white, rather it is a sincere, heartfelt account

of my journey so far with plenty of lighter moments. I’m emboldened by the love of the people around me, who have never judged me but accepted me for who I am.” She further added that Vijayendra Prasad, who has worked with for her film Manikarnika will be writing the script of the film. “Then, around 12 weeks ago, he urged me to let him write a film based on my life. I was nervous and wary initially, but then, given his stature and the fact that I trust him implicitly, I gave Vijayendra sir the go-ahead to the project.” On being asked whether the film will have characters based on the people she had differences in the past, she said, “How can I show my journey without people, I can’t be walking alone. But we will not be taking any names. The idea is to protect me and my life
with all its highs and lows. In the end, it is the story of an achiever, a girl from the mountains who came into Bollywood without any connections in the industry or even a godfather, and went on to carve a niche for herself against all odds, with some memorable films like Gangster, Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel, Fashion, Queen and more recently Manikarnika, bagging three National Awards along the way.” Kangana’s Manikarnika is a biopic on Rani Lakshmibai and is still running strong in Theatres in its third week. She will be next seen in Ekta Kapoor’s Mental Hai Kya and Fox Star Studio’s Panga. Cortsey: MID DAY

CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE: BANK VS PERSONAL PLAN Sandeep Ahuja
W
hen you intend to purchase a house and arrange mortgage with your financial institution, the bank offers you critical illness insurance with your mortgage. This benefit will pay off your mortgage should you be diagnosed with a critical illness that satisfies their policy definitions and requirements. But, prior to purchasing coverage through bank, it’s vital that you should understand the pros and cons of this decision by comparing it with a much more beneficial ‘personal critical illness insurance plan’. The below mentioned features of both options will provide you a clear view of these options and will help you make a wise decision in this direction.
Coverage Purchased from Bank
• You do not own the policy. The bank controls your policy and the coverage you receive. • You have no control over cancellation The bank can cancel your policy at any time, by giving you a notice. • The bank controls your premiums They can raise your premiums at any time if they had a bad claim experience because; the nature of the insurance is a ‘group’. • Your coverage terminates when you refinance your loan. You will be required to re-qualify medically and your premiums will go up according to your age. • Coverage ceases if you change your bank If you switch to another bank that offers you a better interest rate upon your mortgage renewal, you lose your coverage. Your premiums might go up with the new lender as all lenders do not offer critical illness insurance coverage. • The premiums remain level while the coverage keeps on decreasing. Another great disadvantage is that though your amount of premium remains the
same, the coverage keeps on decreasing gradually. For example, if your monthly premium is $200, it won’t change/decrease while the coverage will decrease with the decrease in mortgage amount. This proves very expensive for the client. • The proceeds of insurance are payable only to the lender You get nothing to aid your physical recovery. • Coverage is usually restricted to age 65 Most banks limit their coverage to age 65 while they don’t protect the later years of your life, when you are at the highest risk. The banks win, you lose. • Only 3 to 8 illnesses are covered The bank offers you protection from a limited number of illnesses. • Most loan officers are not licensed to be insurance agents. They cannot, by law, provide you with insurance advice as they are not trained or qualified.
educational expenses of your kids. • You choose the length of coverage: 10, 20, 25 years; to age 65, age 75, or to age 100. • It offers protection against a large number of illnesses Up to 25 illnesses are covered under the insurance policy.
• Experienced and licensed independent brokers provide best coverage for your needs They help you to find the best solution. It is quite evident that a personal critical illness insurance plan offers you far more advantages than the
coverage obtained through bank. Thus, it’s wise to opt for a personal plan instead of purchasing coverage through bank. As an independent insurance advisor working through Punjab Insurance Agency, I deal with different insurance companies offering plans for different types of insurance. I can explain to you in detail, the insurance plan options and coverage that are suitable for your needs and resources. Besides, I can also help you to purchase mortgage insurance, super visa insurance, disability insurance, critical illness insurance, extended medical plans, group medical plans, RESP, RRSP, travel insurance, TFSA accounts, health and dental plans along with estate planning suitable for your needs and resources. A Personal Insurance Plan

An encounter with a multifaceted personality
You may not be able to see his one face at a time, since he has so many persons, rather personalities-in-one body. At one point of time you may feel that he is a poet with different sensbilities, sometime you will be contradicting yourself by feeling the depth and flow of his prose. On another day, you may read him as a hawk eyed journalist, a film critic, a crusader as well. Next day you may find him writing a script and on another day directing a movie based on a self-written script. By writing this, I am defining Bakhshinder (who very recently has written-directed and produced a featurette film TERI FILM) a multifaceted man, a man who dons so many hats.
no or penman like you turn to be a film maker?
Shekhar Babason
R
ecently I met him and I asked him a series of digging questions regarding his multi-colored life. He answered every question very honestly. Here are some of the outstanding questions-answers out of them for our readers:
How did you manage so many hats single headedly? A human being is the best creation of God. In other words, God created himself in every human body. Everybody is the image of Almighty. If God is known as a ‘multitasker’, why his best creation - the human being cannot perform some of the duties assigned to him by his Creator. Usually every human being play many roles on this stage. Sometimes he is a son, sometimes he performs as husband, at times he is a father, an officer, a public servant, a teacher or a preacher. So, like every human being, I switch over between Writing, Journalism, Film Direction, Traveling and many other creative pursuits time to time.
If I ask you about your ‘First Love’?
Writing is my ‘First Love’ and now I won’t give you the chance to bifurcate this question. Films are my passion, since so many other arts and fine arts are blended in film making. There is visualizing, writing, writing and feeling poetry, music and music direction, singing, acting, painting (art direction), set designing, set creating, dancing and dance direction and above all, there is creative evaluation or reviewing the total process of film making. So if you become the film maker, you automatically become the student (sometimes the teacher too) of every art under the sky.
How did a jour-
It did not happened suddenly or in a day or two. Film making has been cooking myself or was being cooked inside me since my student age, when I acted and directed some short plays. Then came the time, when I found myself indulged in writing poetry, short stories and one act plays as well. After completing my graduation, I felt that I should be earning from my writing or there should be a job by which I can boost myself as writer. I joined journalism. I was very keen film watcher before being journalist. Then again I was watching films. My seniors inspired me to write something about the films, I watch. From that point of time I was tagged as ‘film critic’. While reviewing the films, I started suggesting that had the maker of a particular film, had treated his film or subject in ‘this or that way’ the film can result as ‘good or hit’. This was the time, when a film maker started to rise his head inside me.
How did this film maker come out?
I watched films and wrote critically about them. After reading my reviews published in newspapers like Nawan Zamaana, Jag bani and Punjabi Tribune, some people asked me to write film scripts for them. Then I have written MAHAUL THEEK HAI as my maiden film script. After that I have written another Punjabi feature film called ZORAWAR. My third one was a telefilm named KAMMO. In between, I have written scripts for All India Radio and Doordarshan. ISHTIHAAR a radio play written by me was selected for a National Award in ‘All India Competition of Radio Plays’ organized by Ministry of Information & broadcasting, Govt. of India. Whenever anyone of my scripts has been picturized, I felt director has not done the justice with my script. Whenever it happened, the film maker inside me, begged me to let him come out. So with TERI FILM, he has come out.
Are there some of your scripts yet waiting to be filmed?
Actually I don’t write scripts in advance. I always write, whenever I am assigned to. I have three scripts ISHQ DI NAVION NAVIN BAHAAR
12
MARCH 2019
(a rom-com), GHAR WALI BHOLLE DI (an entertainer) and BABA INQLAB SINGH (a biopic) which, due to some pre-production problems, has not come in the light yet.
Any of your bitter experience in film industry?
There are so many experiences. But, What I generally feel, the script writer is the worst sufferer in this industry. He is the person, who creates everything of the film out of nothing. At the end of the day everybody in production team think that writer has nothing to show as investment. Moreover, after first meeting with producers, writer become busy. When every member of the production team enjoy tight sleep, writer spend the so many nights sleepless. By the time, he completes first draft of the one line, some one from the production house tell him that that project is shelved. I have gone through the situations like this, so many times.
Why the cinema of Punjab could not match itself to the cinema of other Indian states?
Actually we Punjabi people start anything like cinema from ‘Z’ and then after some time, half of the team goes towards ‘A’. By this modus operandi, ‘Z’ team pushes the film project towards ‘A’ and the ‘A’ team tries to finish the work by pushing it towards ‘Z’. Thus, we cannot concentrate and focus ourselves on one aim, that is why we notice a list of bipolar defects in Punjabi Cinema. In other
words Producers of Punjabi films, first of all gets their songs written and recorded. Then they hire a writer to fill the gaps between the songs with drama. Now it is not very difficult to imagine the results. Most of Punjabi film producers aspire to be writers and actors. In such situation, no director can dare to criticize the story/ script written by the producer. Again you can well imagine about the final shape of the product. Unless good stories are taken, unless skilled writers are given due respect and good wages, the body of Punjabi cinema will never be muscular one.
Have you written something about films and film industry except scripts, I mean as a media man?
I have already mentioned that I was (now even) a film critic. Moreover, I have written a book about the ‘art of film making’ in Punjabi, titled FILMSAZI. Basically I am a poet and MAUN AWASTHA DE SAMVAAD is a collection of Poems, Gazals and Lyrics. I have written a collections of plays titled SAB TON GANDI GAAL. A lot of Radio/TV plays and features jotted by me has been broadcast/ telecast. More than 2000 articles written by me has been published in various newspapers. I have written a regular column ARZ KITAI for more than six years in Ajit Weekly and writing a weekly coumn SIRRE TE GANDH in Daily Punj Pani. These both papers of Punjabi are being published from Toronto.
What are your future plans?
A writer cannot plan, at least I could never. Writer’s plannings merge in producer’s plans. So I have left this department to my producers. Yes, whenever I get an assignment, I plan my schedule to get it finished in time. Some producers has shown interest in my job and they are in a process to sign me for a Punjabi film, which will entirely be picturised in canada. So wait and watch, as I am doing.#

6 Pieces of Relationship Advice for Single People Meeting people is hard and when you’re single, you hear all kinds of advice from friends and well-wishers. While some of the advice you receive might seem genuine, most of it is simply annoying and more often than not, ends up making you feel inadequate.
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
F
irstly, accept that there’s nothing lacking in you and being single isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Secondly, take a look at six pieces of relationship advice that we’ve put together for single people to build the fulfilling relationship that they’re looking for -
1. Understand what you truly want
As you grow, your definitions of relationships and what you seek out of them keep changing. That’s why it’s important to understand what you’re truly looking for -- a casual date, a long-term relationship or a marriage. Don’t go with what your friends, family or society expect you to do. Take some time for yourself, map your needs and accept them -- this is the first step to starting a great relationship.
2. Stop seeking “The One”
Society teaches you to find “The One” or “The Soulmate”. It also paints a fairytale happy ending after
20
MARCH 2019
finding the love of your life. Reality doesn’t work that way. If you truly wish to have a relationship with someone, look for personality traits that are to your liking, go out on a few dates and consider taking the next step if you truly enjoy the company. No one is perfect and everyone has their attractions and their flaws. You just have to decide whether you can live with those flaws.
3. Consider online dating
There’s a very infamous stereotype associated with online dating -- it’s only for the truly desperate who cannot find dates in their real lives. On the contrary, online dating is a very efficient option for finding meaningful relationships. We live extremely busy lives and online dating can introduce you to other single people who’re looking for a relationship with just a few clicks -- people you wouldn’t have met going about your normal routine. While there might be people who wish to take advantage of you, there are also plenty of extremely earnest people who are looking for a genuine relationship online.
4. Don’t compare yourself to your friends
Comparing ourselves to others, especially our friends, is something we do every now and then. When your friends are getting married or are in serious relationships, you feel that
you need to be doing the same. Instead of making comparisons, focus on yourself and achieving your goals. Do things when you’re ready, not because everyone else is doing it.
5. Don’t feel bad for being single
This might sound as cliché, but it’s okay to be single. Being single isn’t a problem to be solved, neither is it a reflection on your value as a person. Instead of obsessing over being in a relationship, focus on having a wonderful life -- do things you love and enjoy. Live your best life and make every single day count.
6. Seek some advice
Seeking counsel when you feel
stuck or lost is completely fine. You don’t have all the answers and asking your friends, family or even professional counsellors for some muchneeded advice is always a good idea. Just make sure who you’re seeking counsel from. For example, if you’re looking for relationship advice, ask someone who’s in a stable relationship, not your perpetually single friend. A fulfilling relationship is all about being honest with yourself and with your expectations. Being in a relationship is wonderful, but it also takes a lot of work and compromises. So unless you’re completely ready to be in a relationship, don’t do it. Concentrate on living a fulfilling life instead.

Is It Unhealthy to Eat Before Bed?
Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Health Coach of University of Victoria
M
any of us eat before hitting the bed. Is it ok to do so? Many people think it’s a bad idea to eat before bed. This often comes from the belief that eating before you go to sleep leads to weight gain. On the other hand, some opine that a bedtime snack can actually support a weight loss diet. So what is the truth? The answer isn’t the same for everyone. It depends a lot on an individual. On metabolic front, inside us, we all are different Eating Before Bed Is Indeed Controversial Whether or not you should eat before bed [the time between dinner and bedtime] is a billion dollar question. Conventional wisdom says that eating before bed causes weight gain because your metabolism slows down when you fall asleep. This causes any undigested calories to be stored as fat. Yet some health experts confirm that eating before bed is perfectly fine and may even improve sleep and even promote weight loss. Due to these conflicting schools of thought many people are incurably confused. The problem is that the evidence on the matter actually appears to support both sides. Although many believe that a slower metabolism during sleep leads to weight gain yet evidence suggests that your night time basal metabolic rate remains the same as during the day. Your body still needs plenty of energy while you sleep. Also calories do not count more before bedtime than they do at any other time of the day. Yet despite the fact that there seems to be no physiological reason why, several studies have linked eating before bed with weight gain. Does eating before bed lead to weight gain? The current evidence shows no physiological reason why eating before bed should cause weight gain. However, several studies show that those who eat before bed are more likely to gain weight. It turns out that people who eat before bed are more likely to gain weight simply because a bedtime snack is an extra meal and, therefore, extra calories and the body will be in a resting mode for 7-8 hrs of sleep. Moreover, the evening is the time of the day when many people tend to feel the hungriest. This makes it even more likely that a bedtime snack will end up pushing your calorie intake over. Add the fact that most people like to snack at night while watching TV or working on their mobile/ laptops, and it’s no surprise that these habits might lead to weight gain. Not being 100% conscious
22
MARCH 2019
,they eat more inadvertently. But if you choose your snack properly, you can eat guilt free. It is not how much you eat, it is what you eat. Unknowingly we make a wrong choice and hence gain weight. Some people also become extremely hungry before bed because they don’t eat enough during the day. Extreme hunger can cause a cycle of eating too much before bed, then being too full to eat much the next morning, and again becoming overly hungry before bed the next evening. Eat after every two to three hours. You should have knowledge of what you are eating. Unfortunately myriads of people do not have the basic knowledge and in some cases the labels on products are misleading and incorrect. Kindly understand that the problem with eating at night is not that your metabolism switches to storing calories as fat at night. Instead, weight gain is caused by the unhealthy habits that successively accompany bedtime snacking. Eating Before Bed May Have Some Benefits While eating before bed may not be the best idea for some people, it can be beneficial for others. It May Curb Nighttime Eating and Aid Weight Loss. Some evidence suggests that, rather than causing weight gain, eating a bedtime snack may actually help some people lose weight. If you’re a person who tends to eat a big portion of your calories during the night (usually after going to bed), having a snack after dinner can help control your desire for nighttime snacking. Studies suggest that adding a small after-dinner snack may help night-snackers feel satisfied enough to eat less than they would otherwise. Over time, it may also have the possible benefit of weight loss. It May Help You Sleep Better Not much research has been done on this topic, but many people report that eating something before bed helps them sleep better or prevents them from waking up
hungry during the night. This makes sense, as a snack before bed may help you feel full and satisfied during the night. Getting enough sleep is extremely important, and sleep deprivation itself has been linked to overeating and weight gain. There is no evidence that a small, healthy snack before bed leads to weight gain. Therefore, if you feel that eating something before bed helps you fall asleep or stay asleep, and then you should feel good about doing so. Go for it. Now what you eat really matters. Junk food is the villain, here. It May Stabilize Morning Blood Sugar In the morning, your liver starts to produce extra glucose (blood sugar) to provide you with the energy you need to get up and start the day. This process doesn’t cause much of a change in blood sugar for people without diabetes. However, some people with diabetes can’t produce enough insulin to remove the extra glucose from the blood. For this reason, diabetics commonly wake up in the morning with high blood sugar, even if they haven’t eaten anything since the night before. This is called the Dawn Phenomenon. Other people may experience nocturnal hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar during the night, which can disturb sleep if you experience either of these phenomena, you might need to talk to your doctor about having your medication adjusted. What should we all eat Before Bed? For most of the people, it’s perfectly okay to have a snack before bed. There is no recipe for the perfect bedtime snack, but there are some things you should keep in mind namely: Avoid Desserts and Junk Foods While eating before bed is not necessarily a bad thing, loading up on traditional dessert foods or junk foods such as ice cream, pie or chips isn’t a good idea. These foods, which are high in unhealthy fats and added sugars, trigger cravings and overeating. They cause us to exceed our daily calorie needs.
Eating before bed doesn’t necessarily make you gain weight, but filling up on calorie-dense foods before bed certainly can and you should really avoid them. We should prefer nutrition dense foods. If you have a sweet tooth, try some berries or 2 -3 squares of dark chocolate over 70% (unless the caffeine bothers you). Or, if salty snacks are what you prefer, have a handful of nuts instead. Eat cashews and ground nut in moderation. One small apple with skin and a tablespoon of almond butter is what I prefer. Combine Carbs with Protein or healthy Fat Pairing of complex carbs and protein, or a little healthy fat, is probably a good way to go. Complex carbs such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables provide you with a steady source of energy as you fall asleep and keep your blood sugar stable. Low fat dairy, fish, poultry or lean red meat is a good choice. Moreover, tryptophan a chemical in these foods regulates sleep. Other snack ideas include an apple with almond/peanut butter, whole grain crackers and a slice of turkey, or cheese. A combination of carbs and protein or fat is a good thing as a snack. Prefer oats[ steel cut], quinoa over wheat as it is genetically modified. Conclusion The answer to, whether or not it’s a bad idea, to eat before bed really depends on you and your habits. It’s not a good idea to make a habit of snacking on unhealthy foods before bed. It’s also incorrect to eat a large portion of your calories during the night. However, it’s perfectly fine to have a healthy snack before bed. Finish your eating 2 hours before you hit the bed. So eat healthy food that is low in calories, and high in protein and healthy fat. This will support good sleep no weight gain.

Also, stay clear of glittery powder shadows, it can make your wrinkles more visible. Go for neutral hues on eyes and stick to gel-based shadows and liners. And, to open up your eyes, curl your lashes and use a volumizing mascara in black hue.

Varun Dhawan
to start Coolie No 1 remake in June this year
2
019 seems to be a really busy year for Varun Dhawan considering the actor has various projects lined up. He will be juggling between his dance film Street Dancer, Shashank Khaitan’s thriller and now the Coolie No 1 adaptation. Teaming up with his father David Dhawan for the third time for a comedy which will revive the No 1 franchise, Varun is looking forward to this biggie. While earlier there were reports that the father-son duo will be reuniting for Biwi No 1 remake, the latest we hear that the film will be a contemporary remake of Govinda’s Coolie No 1 instead. For those of you who don’t know, the No 1 franchise started back in 1995 with Coolie No 1 itself. It was recently when Varun wrapped up Abhishek Varman’s multi-starrer Kalank, which supposedly is his most difficult role till date. Other than this, Varun has also started shooting for Remo D’Souza’s dance film Street Dancer in which he will be seen alongside Shraddha Kapoor and Nora Fatehi. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Varun will start working on the No. 1 franchise from June this year. Confirming the same, a source told Mumbai Mirror, “He will dash back in between to promote Kalank which unveils in April. In fact, all through the year, he will be juggling multiple assignments,” Cortsey: FILMFARE
Here’s the real reason why Ajay Devgn declined Shankar’s ‘Indian 2’
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
S
peculations had been rife that Ajay Devgn would play villain to Kamal Haasan’s hero in his Tamil debut Indian 2, the sequel to Shankar’s 1996 hit film Indian. However, nothing ever became of it. Now while promoting his upcoming film Total Dhamaal, Devgn has revealed why he couldn’t take up the project. “I would have loved to do Shankar’s movie (Indian 2), but I didn’t have the dates. He wanted to shoot the movie right now. [But] I am stuck with Taanaji,” he told Mid-Day. Junking rumours that he said no to Indian 2 because he didn’t want to play a negative character, Devgn said, “For an artiste, there are no shades of grey, black or white—the more layers you have in a role, the better it is.” “I loved doing movies like Khakee (2004) and Com-

pany (2002) where my negative characters were appreciated. I would love to play such roles again. [Having said that], I cannot say if it [the part in Indian 2] was grey or not because I am not doing it now, it’s somebody else’s role,” he added. Though Indian 2 could not work out for Devgn but he is definitely foraying into South-Indian cinema. According to Mid-Day, he will be seen in an important role in SS Rajamouli’s forthcoming film, which is currently tentatively titled RRR and stars Ram Charan Teja and NT Rama Rao Jr. “Ajay has been approached for a pivotal role. It’s not a cameo as has been reported. While Rajamouli has begun the first schedule with Ram Charan and NTR Jr, Ajay is likely to shoot his portions after wrapping up Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior,” an unnamed source told Mid-Day. 3 weight loss hacks for women
S
etting goals that are realistic and seem to be attainable may be key to your well-being and life satisfaction, scientists say. Wealth, community, health, meaningful work: life goals express a person’s character, as they determine behaviour and the compass by which people are guided, according to researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland. It can therefore be assumed that goals can contribute substantially to how satisfied people are in life — or how dissatisfied if important goals are blocked and cannot be achieved. Researchers conducted a detailed examination on how life goals are embedded in people’s lives across adult. The study, published in the European Journal of Personality, included data from 973 people between 18 and 92 years old living in German-speaking parts of Switzerland; more than half of the participants were surveyed again after two and four years. The participants had to assess the importance and the perceived attainability of life goals in ten areas — health, community, personal growth, social relationships, fame, image, wealth, family, responsibility/care for younger generations, and work — using a fourpoint scale. The findings reveal that perceiving one’s personal goals as attainable is an indicator for later cognitive and effective well-being. This implies that people are most satisfied if they have a feeling of control and attainability. Interestingly, the importance of the goal was less relevant for later well-being than expected. Life goals also hold predictive power for specific domains: Participants who set socialrelation goals or health goals were more satisfied with their social relationships or their own health. The link between life goals and subsequent well-being appeared to be relatively independent of the age of the participants. Research-

here is never a time in most women’s lives when weight loss is not a concern. That’s due to the many hormonal changes that take place over time, from menarche when the cycles first begin, to pregnancy and post pregnancy, and finally menopause. Try these hacks
Make protein your best friend ers also found that the goals that people value in a particular life stage depend on the development tasks that are present at this stage: the younger the participants were, the more they rated personal-growth, status, work and social-relation goals as important. The older they were, the more they rated social engagement and health as important. “Many of our results confirmed theoretical assumptions from developmental psychology. Life goals were strongly determined by age,” said Janina Buhler, a PhD student at the University of Basel. “If we examine, however, whether these goals contribute to well-being, age appears less relevant,” Buhler said. Hence, adults, whether old or young, are able to balance the importance and attainability of their goals, researchers said. Cortsey: INDIAN EXPRESS
Protein has a number of benefits for women, including improvement in metabolism. 4 The branched chain amino acids in whey protein are absorbed well by muscles and aid in muscle recovery, leading to tighter arm and abdomen muscles. 4 Protein protects the bone. This is very important after menopause, when bone loss can lead to weak bones and old-age fractures.
How To Consume Protein 4Add one tablespoon of protein powder to milk or hot water and drink at breakfast. 4Replace your dinner with a glass of hot milk with a generous scoop of protein powder. 4If you exercise regularly, have your morning protein 10 minutes after your workout, with an apple.
Consume liver detox herbs The liver is the seat of weight loss. International Women’s Day History Introduction International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. International Women’s Day first emerged from the activities of labour movements at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe. Since those early years, International Women’s Day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international women’s movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women’s conferences, has helped make the commemoration a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs have played an important role
in galvanizing attention on and resources for gender equality and women’s
empowerment. The UN and Gender Equality The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. Since then, the UN has helped create a historic legacy of internationally-agreed strategies, standards, programmes and goals to advance the status of women worldwide. Over the years, the UN and its technical agencies have promoted the participation of women as equal partners with men in achieving sustainable development, peace, security, and full respect for human rights. The empowerment of women continues to be a central feature of the UN’s efforts to address social, economic and political challenges across the globe. Courtsey: www.un.org
Chronology 1909 The first National Woman’s Day was observed in the United States on 28 February. The Socialist Party of America designated this day in honour of the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions. 1910 The Socialist International, meeting in Copenhagen, established a Women’s Day, international in character, to honour the movement for women’s rights and to build support for achieving universal suffrage for women. The proposal was greeted with unanimous approval by the conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, which included the first three women elected to the Finnish Parliament. No fixed date was selected for the observance. 1911 As a result of the Copenhagen initiative, International Women’s Day was marked for the first time (19 March) in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, where more than one million women and men attended rallies. In addition to the right to vote and to hold public office, they demanded women’s rights to work, to vocational training and to an end to discrimination on the job. 1913-1914 International Women’s Day also became a mechanism for protesting World War I. As part of the peace movement, Russian women observed their first International Women’s Day on the last Sunday in February. Elsewhere in Europe, on or around 8 March of the following year, women held rallies either to protest the war or to express solidarity with other activists. 1917 Against the backdrop of the war, women in Russia again chose to protest and strike for “Bread and Peace” on the last Sunday in February (which fell on 8 March on the Gregorian calendar). Four days later, the Czar abdicated and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. 1975 During International Women’s Year, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day on 8 March. 1995 The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a historic roadmap signed by 189 governments, focused on 12 critical areas of concern, and envisioned a world where each woman and girl can exercise her choices, such as participating in politics, getting an education, having an income, and living in societies free from violence and discrimination. 2014 The 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58) – the annual gathering of States to address critical issues related to gender equality and women’s rights — focused on “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”. UN entities and accredited NGOs from around the world took stock of progress and remaining challenges towards meeting the eight

How to Cope with a Changing Friendship?
Friendships are some of life’s greatest gifts, especially because they surround you with people who understand you and stand by you through good times as well as tough times. Good friendships fill us with warmth and a sense of well-being. Find a way to meet new people and build new friendships. It’s quite important to cultivate strong, positive relationships with people who share common interests. Get together with these new friends and pursue activities that you enjoy together. This will help you broaden your social circle and maintain your emotional health.

4. Stay positive but realistic
Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
While it’s easy to lay the blame on your friends, it’s not going to help you cope. Focus on what you truly enjoy about your friendship and concentrate on those strengths to stay positive about your friendship. Things always have a chance of getting better and your friendship can eventually improve. However, don’t go overboard and stay realistic, acknowledging both the good and the bad facts.
H
owever, just like any other human relationship, friendships are also fraught with conflicts and setbacks, especially as the years go by and you get more mature. When you and your friends start drifting apart, your relationship starts deteriorating and it suddenly leaves you feeling all alone, isolated and helpless.
Why does friendship change?
Changes in your life can drive a wedge between you and your friends, especially when you don’t have several common things to share. Here are some common situations that cause a friendship to change 4Relocating to a different place 4Starting a new relationship 4Having extremely busy lives 4 Changing interests, hobbies and opinions While it’s tough to deal with any changing relationship, it’s quite possible to cope with the changes and make things work.
How to cope with a changing friendship?

MARCH 2019
When is it time to let go of a friendship?
While a change is hard, it’s also an eventuality that is bound to happen. When your friendship changes, you might end up feeling hurt, lost, jealous, angry or simply alone. Here’s how to cope and make your friendship pull through -
1. Get some time out
Taking some time out is a reasonable thing to do when things are changing. Your friendship could also use some space. Use this time to understand what you want from your friendship and also to take up some activities that’ll take your mind off things for a while. It’s quite important to understand what you’re looking for and whether the relationship is worth saving.
2. Set expectations with your friend
Talking things out in an honest and straightforward manner is the solution for most problems. Reach out to your friend and talk things through. Listen to what they have to say and make them feel heard, don’t just listen for the sake of responding. Once you’ve expressed yourselves, start setting your expectations. Ask questions such as 4 What is it that you expect from your friend and what are you offering in return? 4 Why does this relationship matter to you? 4 Why do you enjoy each other’s company?
3. Meet new friends
Friendships are some of the most wonderful relationships we form during our lives. However, if a friendship has run its course, then you need to let go and move on. If you’ve tried to reconnect with your friends and exhausted all possible options of making things work, then it’s time to move on and focus on other relationships in your life. Change is never easy, but if your friendship has truly run its course, then move on to other healthier relationships. Moving on doesn’t mean you completely forget about the good moments. Treasure the fond memories and cherish the good times. People come into your life for a reason and just be grateful that you had your friends when you needed them.

Jasvir and her husband took me to Sukhi Bath Motors, Basant Motors and some more such agencies to show me used cars. They helped me buy a used HondaCivic car in good condition from one agency. I felt great freedom to move around. Jasvir and I kept working at the same place for about five months. Sometimes I took my car to work and sometimes Jasvir did so. My mom was so much stuck in dealing with various pundits; god knows how many astrological treatments she had done for my welfare. Some pundits had charged huge amount of money out of greed by scaring her of dire future events. She began trusting a pundit Harish Sharma very much. He had no greed for money. He mostly asked my mom to

offer food, fruits and some other edible stuff at any religious place to get things better. Sometimes, he asked that I should cast a couple of things into running water. I failed to understand how these things could help me. At the same time, I wondered how some pundits knew my conditions so well sitting twenty thousand kilometers away from me. Once I went to a park on the bank of Fraser River to cast black-bean pulse. I was shocked to see so many red clothes with other stuff stuck in the tree-roots on the riverbank. I realized I was not the only one stuck in these astrological remedies, there were many more too. I was awfully confused what religion I had started following. Being a sikh, I was reading various banis from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. I had accepted Christianity and sang carols. I was also trying various sorts of astrological treatments according to Hindu Vedas to reduce the bad impacts of various planets on me. What tenet was I following? What had I become? I had lost my real identity. I began feeling more and more restless. I rarely felt at home in my basement. I used to go to the nearby Sikh temple, do volunteer cooking and listen preaching. The other day, I was listening to what a preacher was explaining. He told that casting things into rivers and believing many more illogical

theories were called karam kaands. Sri Guru Granth Sahib forbids us from all such things and wants us only to praise God for everything he has blessed us. But in my attempts to make my life better, I had got badly entangled. When I had completed my required work hours for maternity benefits, I went to my family doctor and applied for my maternity leave. My application was approved. I began spending most of my time in my basement and walking alone in the park near my basement. I used to feel very restless for being alone. I hadn’t read Sukhmani Sahib for many days. I began reading it twice, and sometimes thrice a day. My baby-delivery time was nearing. I was unable to go to the church for it was quite far from my basement or I didn’t feel like going there. Manjit had called me several times but I had stopped taking her phone calls by-and-by. I wanted to relax more and more in that condition. But my doctor had advised me to walk more for good health of my child. When I was working, I met with various girls like me. Every girl had her own story of miseries. Many girls had come to Canada on exchange-marriage bases, and they were working extremely hard in long shifts to meet the income conditions to sponsor their parents and Contd. in next issue

Whiten your teeth with strawberry
H
ave you been trying to get rid of the yellowing of your teeth, yet dreading to visit a dentist? It is common knowledge that many things we eat and drink can cause yellowing of the teeth. Daily brushing cannot completely whiten the teeth, and a visit to the dentist can dent your pocket. But all want to have white and sparkling teeth. Some easy and expensive herbal home remedies may help. Try these safe and effective oral treatments and see the result. No tobacco: Tobacco stain the teeth and it is hard to remove the stain left by consuming any form of tobacco. So quit the habit of smoking and consuming all tobacco products. Strawberry paste: Mash three strawberries in a cup and add half teaspoon of baking soda in it. Clean your teeth with this paste few times a week. The citric acid present in strawberries help in removing stains and plaque from teeth. Cold-pressed oil: Sesame oil, coconut oil and olive oil contain lipids that stop bacteria from sticking to the walls of your teeth. Take a spoonful of any of these oil and swish it inside your mouth for a minute. Spit it out and rinse your mouth well preferably with lukewarm water. Rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, these oils will help in whitening the teeth. Apple Cider Vinegar: Whiten your teeth with ACV which has natural whitening properties. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with half teaspoon of baking soda and use it

few times a week to remove surface stains. Mint leaves: Mix two grams of crushed mint leaves with two to three tablespoons of coconut oil to make a whitening paste. Coconut oil is a natural emulsifier which helps in reducing stains and fighting off plaque and cavity causing bacteria. The mint leaves keep your breath fresh throughout the day. Baking soda paste: Take a teaspoon of baking soda and mix it to two teaspoons of water to make a paste. Brush your teeth few times a week with this paste and make your teeth brighter. Bleaching agent hydrogen peroxide can whiten your teeth very effectively. But it has some side effects too. So use it under the supervision of a good dentist. No aerated drinks: Regular consumption of carbonated drinks cause discoloration of teeth and enamel wear. Replace these unhealthy drinks with plain water to have healthy glittering teeth. None of the above techniques can do miracles overnight. You have to follow these procedures for a couple of weeks and decrease the frequency to once or twice a week to gain natural whitening. But, these natural whitening home remedies cannot replace brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing them on regular intervals with healthy toothpaste, soft bristled toothbrush and dental flosses. Make sure to visit your dentist on a regular basis for professional care of your teeth. Now a sparkling smile is not difficult to achieve. Sparkle up your teeth and keep smiling.

5 ways to wear a pocket square that every man should know
F
or the past four decades, if men regarded the breast pocket on their suit at all, it was as an extra place to store sunglasses or business cards. In fact, some men don’t even undo the stitching in the pocket that comes with a new suit. “However, men are once again rediscovering the art of sporting a pocket square,” said Rohan Khattar, founder, Minizmo. Here are five simple folds, suggested by Khattar, that every man should master to carry the look.
Horizontal Peak: Let’s begin with
a classic fold. This is often called as the Presidential Fold. It is one of the easiest ways to fold a pocket square. This fold is best for an elegant attire varying from formal business dress to black tie. Typically a classic white pocket square made from silk or linen is used for this fold. 4 Lay the pocket square on a flat and clean surface. 4 Fold the pocket square in half. 4 Fold one side up. How much of the pocket square you fold in is depending on how deep your jacket’s pocket is. 4 F old the fabric in thirds horizontally so that it will fit your suit pocket. About ¼ of the pocket square should be visible.
One Corner fold: Another classic fold that is easy and also pretty common. With this fold, you’ll have a small peak of fabric coming out of your pocket. 4 Lay your pocket square on a flat surface 4 Bring the bottom point to the top point so that you create a triangle. 4 Bring the left corner of the triangle to the right corner, and the right corner to the left corner. You should end up with a long rectangle with a point at the top. 4 Place it in your suit. Adjust until you

get the desired amount of point coming out of the pocket.
The Puff Fold: With this fold, the
desired result is to have a small puff of fabric coming out your suit pocket. Here’s how to fold it. 4Lay the pocket square flat. 4 Pinch the middle of the fabric, allowing the folds to come in naturally. 4 With one hand firmly holding the pocket square, use your other hand to gently gather it together. 4 Now gracefully gather up the bottom of the pocket square. 4 Place it in your suit. Fiddle with it until you get the desired puffiness.
jacket an excellent edge. Patterns ideal for this particular fold include polka dots and paisleys. Geometric patterns also work extremely well with this fold, giving a stunning contrast. 4 Lay your pocket square on a flat surface. 4 Fold one side in so that you have the look of two triangles - creating two tips. 4 To create the third tip, fold the adjacent tip so as you have three tri-
angles. 4 Fold in the opposite side and make sure to create a strong fold with the palm of your hand. 4 Place the folded pocket square into your pocket and you are done.
Cortsey:IANS
Something unique: If you
think the above option is rather boring and your date night demands some drama, then this fold might be perfect. Also called two tips up, it’s rather formal and sophisticated. 4 Start by laying it flat. 4 Fold one side over so that you get two triangles that overlap. One tip higher than the other looks smarter. 4 Now fold one side in. 4 Do the same on the opposite side. 4 Place your folded pocket square in your breast pocket and you are good to go.
Three Stair Fold: This maybe one of the more challenging folds, but when executed well, can give your

How to Stop with the Stress Eating
It starts with a slight craving for sugar, and before you know it you’ve finished off an entire bar of chocolate. Or when you’re back home and in no mood to talk, simply reach for that huge bag of chips while browsing through channels, you’re stress eating. something healthy.
2. Practice mindful eating
If you eat while doing other activities such as watching TV or working, you’re distracted. When your mind is elsewhere, you don’t feel satisfied and end up binge eating even if you aren’t hungry. With mindful eating, you pay attention to your food. Eat your meals without any distractions. Don’t rush through the meal, take small bites and chew well. Stop eating before you feel completely full as it takes time for your brain to receive the signal that you’ve had enough.
Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist
S
tress eating (also known as mindless eating) is when people turn to food to suppress negative feelings and emotions such as stress, anger, boredom and loneliness. It serves as a distraction from relationship conflicts, problems at work, financial pressures and other stress factors.
3. Exercise regularly
Are you a stress eater?
If eating is your primary coping mechanism, then chances are that you are a stress eater. Watch out for the following behaviours to find out whether or not you stress eat 4 You eat when you’re stressed 4 You eat to calm yourself down and feel better 4 You eat even when you’re not hungry 4 You reward yourself with food Identify your stress eating triggers While the most common trigger for stress eating is your emotions, it’s not always the case. The first step to coping with stress eating is identifying your stress eating triggers, which could be 4 Boredom - When people feel bored, unfulfilled and empty, they tend to
38
MARCH 2019
fill the void with food. It serves as an effective distraction from their underlying feelings of emptiness and boredom. 4 Childhood habits - Many parents reward good behaviour with food. Children raised in such environments tend to carry over these habits when they’re adults., especially when they feel nostalgic or want to feel good about themselves. 4 Stress - When people are stressed, it produces cortisol, which triggers cravings for salty, sweet or fried foods as they give you pleasure. That’s why people turn to food for relief at high-stress environments.
Four techniques to stop stress eating
Although stress eating is compulsive and difficult to control, it can be handled. The first step is to identify what triggers stress eating and then take steps to resist the urge. Here are four simple techniques that can help -
1. Maintain a food journal
Keep track of your stress eating triggers by jotting them down in a journal. Tracking your behaviour over a period of time can give you useful insights into your eating habits. Record moments when you feel hungry or crave food. Stock your fridge with healthy foods so that the next time you crave something, you can eat
Your body produces more cortisol when you’re stressed. Exercising releases endorphins -- natural painkillers that trigger a positive feeling in your body, induce sleep and reduce stress. Get moving to release feel-good endorphins and naturally relieve stress.
4. Talk to someone
Bundling up your feelings only exacerbates the negativity. The next time you feel the urge to stress eat, consider talking to a friend or a relative and process your feelings with them -- a much healthier alternative than overeating.
Final Words
Emotional eating is quite common and the solution isn’t easy. However, finding productive ways to cope with stress is the key to reducing stress and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. With some amount of mindfulness and self-restraint, you can definitely put a stop to stress eating.

O
ur living spaces are a reflection of who we are. More and more of us want to come back home to a beautiful home which we call our own, and for good measure considering the taxing lives we live. Our havens, den, our roof under the sun, the place we lick our wounds, grow, sleep, and mostly chill in should be comfortable, warm and reflect our personalities. The home is where the heart is they say, so how about taking some time (and tips) to make your room homely and heartwarming. Few easy tips, a weekend, and you can easily revamp yours to look more classy and nice. 1. Keep it clean Don’t clutter the room up; too much of anything ruins the effect - take some time and throw ut anything that isn’t needed. The idea is to give the idea of spaciousness

7 Tips To Help You Revamp Your Room in limited space. Push the furniture pieces to the four walls of the room which leaves the space in the centre to you. 2. Add some lights No, not the white tube light. I am talking yellow fairy lights, stream of bulbs, statement lamps...the likes. They add an ambient touch to the room and give off warm vibes. In short, they have the room happy. 3. Think plants and flowers I know you might scoff but apart from building your taking-care skills, indoor plants are a great touch to any room. Buying fresh flowers also does the trick - a pop of color for your room. What is that hash tag?
#GoodVibesOnly. 4. Mirror on the wall One full length for one side of the room, or a beautifully framed mirror on the wall - whatever the choice, mirrors change the way a room looks. There are a lot of vintage, elegant frames available in the market for one to choose from. 5. Accent furniture The one thing, and just one, that draws (and compliments) when someone walks into the room. Statement furniture that can be thrifted from an old furniture market is a beautiful way to add some personality to your room - it can be a beautiful vintage chair, a distressed chest of drawers, a French trunk, a chintz armchair, the likes.
6. Get quirky with decor Take an old ladder, put it against a wall, and deck it up with fairy lights. Or get empty wall frames and mount them on the wall in a pattern. Invest in some printed bed sheets or patchwork quilt. But with these, make sure these things standalone. 7. Don’t overkill The idea is to keep it simple and clean. Another good idea will be to paint the walls white, they make the room look spacious and cleaner. But any way, make sure you don’t have too many things that draw everyone’s attention and overwhelms the senses.Courtsey: SWIRLSTER

Stay away from Negativity and Negative People… Never judge someone’s character based on the words of another. Instead, study the motives behind the words of the person casting the bad judgment. If you do not do your homework, then one day, you will find yourself to be on the wrong side of the road
Prof. Surinder Kochhar (Shaun) LPN, FCN, M.Com, CAIIB, DIM A freelance writer with 36 Years Exp. A Health Coach of University of Victoria
E
definitely drawn to positive energy and negative people are drawn to negative energy.
veryday God gives us a gift. That gift is a new day. It is our attitude positive or negative that make us choose positivity or negativity. Every morning a positive person chooses joy, happiness, and not negativity or pain. Negativity is the enemy of creativity: We Know that it’s not weird to have negative thoughts. It doesn’t make us different or unusual. It doesn’t make us odd or unique. Negativity is a part of the human experience. We however, can make a conscious choice to ignore it as and when it happens. Just because negativity is present in our mind, doesn’t mean we have to allow it to overwhelm and control our life and actions. Negativity and the submersion of our mind in negative thoughts, in succession, will never allow us to create that positive and abundant life we desire. We must monitor how we speak to ourselves because if left unchecked, negativity will root itself within our subconscious mind. Make it your mission to look for the positives in your everyday life. Choose to live a life full of gratitude, faith, and possibility. Beat back the natural impulse to grasp at the negative. Know that through your thoughts you can shape your own future. Believe that your future holds more positive opportunities and you’ll be surprised at just how many more you find. Negative people complain successively: To complain is always non-acceptance of what it is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. So, change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary. Either leave the situation or accept it. Negative people can only infest you with discouragements when they find you. Avoid their company. Better alone than in a bad company. Do not listen to negative thoughts, yours or anyone else’s. Disregarding negative thoughts isn’t hiding our head in the sand, but simply not allowing the negative to mess and influence our
Our mission in life is not merely to survive, even animals, insects survive; so, it is not a big deal. Our sole purpose is to thrive. To do so one need to stay positive not negative. Positivity set the undercurrent and with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some welcoming style we achieve the ultimate bliss.

Stay away from negativity: You cannot expect to live a positive life if you hang with negative people. In their company you will ingrain negativity that you fail to notice. If so, you can’t stop attracting the wrong people, the wrong situations, and the wrong feelings
Negativity is a tendency to be gloomy, disagreeable, and doubtful. It’s a pessimistic attitude that always expects negative things will happen. We should not make an opinion about a person on the basis of unmerited firing by others, as they are jealous with that person. experience of the present moment. The moment is never improved or helped by negativity, though we are programmed to think our negative thoughts, worries, and fears plays a big role. When you really examine this idea, you will see that negativity doesn’t serve any purpose. Criticism Sandwich: The Sandwich Method (or Sandwich Technique or Hamburger Method) is so named because the pieces of bread represent positive feedback/compliments while the meat of the sandwich (or innards if you’re vegetarian) represents constructive criticism. That is offering someone a few words of praise, then getting to the meat of the problem i.e. criticism; and finally adding a few more words of praise. Bad Is Stronger Than Good: It’s in human nature, and there are even signs of it in animals as experiments with rats prove it. Bad emotions, bad parents and bad feedback have more impact than good ones. Bad impressions and bad
when negative people discourage us continuously, chances are we can become a victim of our circumstances and thereby feel sad, scared or angry; or instead, we could choose to deal with injustice gently and break the chains of negative thoughts and energies, and not let ourselves drop into it. stereotypes are quicker to form and more resistant to fade away from our subconscious mind. That is why, bad events wear off more slowly than good ones. Daily, we tend to see people who say negative things as smarter than those who are positive. Wrongly, we give more likely to give greater weight to critical reviews. Positive outlook: Some people do have a more positive outlook, but almost everyone remembers negative things more strongly and in more detail. There are physiological as well as psychological reasons for this. The brain handles positive and negative information in different hemispheres. Negative emotions generally involve more thinking, and the information is processed more thoroughly than positive ones. Thus, we tend to contemplate more about unpleasant events — and use stronger words to describe them — than happy ones. We need to correct ourselves over here, in case anyone happens to be here. Positive people are
You are responsible When good things happen to you, praise yourself. Gracefully acknowledge that you are responsible for the good things – as, you worked very hard; you earned it but do not blame external events or other people for your failures. Nobody likes to hear that. Own your failures too. Conclusion Assuming that things happen to you and put you in the role of a victim. But. have you noticed that positive people seem to get what they want out of their life, and even if things don’t go their way, they still enjoy their lives. while negative people whine and moan about their misfortunes and even the good things in their lives. To clear negative energy, one can try this 3 -step process: • Take ownership: When we believe everything is someone else’s fault, we continue to suffer a lot. When we take ownership, we realize and learn to forgive ourselves thereby enjoy peace and joy.” • Cancel negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts: With practice, dedication and decision making we see the world through the eyes of “what can go right” instead of “what can go wrong. Be incurably optimistic about life but be prepared to deal with the negative. • Realize you have control over your situation: When you realize that the future is NOT cast in stone but that you have more control over your circumstances than you believe that things are in your control to the extent possible. Of course, chance plays its role. In fine, I can say that, nobody wants negative energy to permeate their lives, yet many of us allow it unconsciously, based on past conditioning. The smart thing is to learn from the past to secure a blissful future.
Negativity diminish our selfimage; it deteriorates our spirit and deplete our energy. It blunts our creativity, and prevent us from being able to create the future we would like for ourselves.

angley Memorial Hospital Foundation, in association with Foundation Board members Balraj Mann and Manjit Gill, hosted over 300 guests at a new fundraising event, Giving Hearts Gala. The event, which took place February 9 at the Mirage Banquet Hall in Cloverdale, provided a substantial fundraising boost for Emergency Response, the campaign to build a new Emergency Department and MRI Suite at Langley Memorial Hospital. A big reason for the successful fundraising total of over $200,000 was due to a surprise matching gift by event co-chair Manjit Gill and her husband Darcy. “I have lived in Langley for almost 50 years and Langley remains home to four generations of our family,” said Manjit Gill, who is a member of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation Board as well as a co-chair for the Giving Hearts Gala. “My family and I have worked hard and are blessed to see our efforts paid off with success. But with our success comes great responsibility, too. That is - to make society better around you. We’re honoured to be able to do this with the help of our community and to help make Langley Memorial Hospital a great medical facility.” The Giving Hearts program was emceed by local Pulse FM personalities

earrings, valued at $1,300, to a travel voucher and wine package, valued at $550 and purchase 50/50 lottery tickets. The winner of the 50/50 lottery, Rebecca Darnell, chose to donate her $720 winnings back to the hospital, explaining to the appreciative crowd how her own emergency room experience inspired her to give back. Through Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation’s $15-million Emergency Response fundraising campaign, a new Emergency Department will be built three times the current department’s size and equipped with the latest technically-advanced medical equipment to handle Langley’s growing and changing demographics. The MRI Suite will perform 7,500 exams within its first 12 months of operation and improve access to urgent medical care for residents of Langley and neighbouring communities.

From chair dips to foot drill: Smart ways to exercise at your work desk
I
f you are chained to your desk and want to improve your fitness level, we have you covered. Here is a list of exercises you can try out to keep yourself strong and flexible. Most of us these days are constantly tapping away at the keyboards and hardly find the time to be away from our computers. Several studies have established the relationship between sitting at a desk for long hours, gaining weight and back pain. According to a study published in the International Journal of Advances in Medicine, 44.7% persons who participated in the study and suffered from lower back pain were either overweight or obese and had lower back pain due to the excess weight, while 28.6% had LBP due to sitting for long periods. If you are chained to your desk and want to improve your fitness level, do not worry, we have you covered. Here is a list of exercises you can try out while at your desk that will improve your fitness levels and keep you strong and flexible.
Foot drill It’s a simple and easy exercise and you can take frequent breaks to perform it. While you are seated on your chair, try tapping your feet for 30 seconds at a time, or longer if you can. Repeat it.
Chair dips With the help of your armrest, you can perform shoulder dips every once in a while at your desk. Place your hands on the armrest of your chair. Move your bottom to the front of your chair and dip down, then hold for 10 seconds. Return to the starting position and repeat four more times.
Shoulder raise It is a great way to relieve tension from your shoulder and neck area. All you have to do is, sit straight and raise your shoulders up towards your ears. Hold it for 10-20 seconds and release. Repeat. If you want to add some weight to it, try doing it by holding a full water bottle in your hands.
Seat squeeze Try out this isometric glutes exercise if you want to tone your glutes. The best part about it is, no one would even know you are exercising. Squeeze your glutes and hold it for 10 seconds. Release, relax and repeat. Cortsey: INDIAN EXPRESS

“Does My Pet Have Hypothermia?”
A
Dr.H.BhullarDVM
52
MARCH 2019
s winter leaves us and spring approaches, the weather has decided to remain cold, if not colder! As your cats run around the neighbourhood in the crisp, cold air and your dogs do their daily walks on the freezing frost; here are some tips from us on
how to effectively help your pet, if they experience hypothermia (low body temperature). The most highly presented case is of a pet who has recently had a prior car accident or injury and then stays outside for a long duration of time. This then causes an overexposure to the cold weather. However, there have also been cases of pets with no prior injury who can experience hypothermia. Other causes would include a dog being submerged in cold water for an long period of time; shock induced hypothermia; and the pet having wet fur or skin for an extended timeline. When patients have a surgical procedure performed, hypothermia is one of the top five risks that can occur during anesthesia. Your veterinarian, however, will always ensure to provide heating pads or warm blankets during this case scenario. A dog or cat with hypothermia will exhibit the following
LIFESTYLE
sports
signs: collapse, disorientation, unconsciousness, shallow breathing, weakness, muscle stiffness and slow pulse. Shivering can also be seen; however, it is not a commonly associated sign with pets facing hypothermia. You can apply a thermometer rectally and check what body temperature your pet has. The normal body temperature range for a dog is considered to be anywhere between 38.3 to 39.2 degrees Celsius. The normal body temperature range for a cat is seen to be between 37.5 to 39.2 degrees Celsius. These ranges were derived from the ‘The Merck Veterinary Manual’. If you feel that your furry companion may show any of the fore-mentioned signs, please bring him or her to your local veterinarian as soon as possible. If your pet’s fur is wet, the best, immediate thing to do is to completely dry them with a towel. Another tip to help them, is to place water bottles filled with warm water around them. This will help to increase their body temperature. It is important to not fill the water bottles with hot water. This can be more damaging to your pet’s health status than helpful. You can also place blankets in a dryer and then place their warmth around your pet’s cold body. A heating pad is also another useful source; however, please ensure you keep it at a low setting when using it on your pet. If you notice your pet has numb, white skin, this could be an indication of frostbite or frozen skin being present. It is important to note that you should not rub this part of the skin or apply warm water bottles to it. Please show it to your veterinarian right away for appropriate medical assistance. Hypothermia can be easily prevented by avoiding the over exposure of cold temperature to your pet. Certain pets who are very young, have heart disease, less body fat, kidney disease or a hypothyroid patient, are more susceptible to experiencing hypothermia. When it comes to walking your dog out in the cold weather, you can simply provide him or her with dog boots, winter coats or other accessories, to aid towards the fight against the cold.

Jaipur Gets a New Sculpture Park: Here Is What You Need to Know about It
R
Jaipur, the pink city, is getting a new sculpture park at one of its most famous landmarks.
ajasthan’s capital city of Jaipur is also the one with the most historical riches. Jaipur showcases the royal heritage and flamboyance, and the chaotic hustle and bustle of the state, all within its city borders. You’ll see sprawling palaces and forts, loud street shops, cycle rickshaws and camels, and people dodging their way through all of that. And come December 2017, you’ll also see a sculpture park in one of the most recognizable landmarks of a city that is chockfull of them. Here’s everything you want to know about the Jaipur’s brand new sculpture park. ALSO READ: Here are 5 things you should definitely do in Jaipur It is India’s first sculpture park In a city full of attractions that are centuries old, the sculpture park will be a draw thanks to its newness. This is India’s first ever sculpture park. Interestingly, the idea of sculpture parks, of viewing art in the fresh outdoors, is something that dates back to the 18th century, when Rajasthan’s Rajput kingdoms ruled the land. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield, England was one of the earliest examples of a sculpture park. It is located in the Madhavendra Palace of Nahargarh Fort We mentioned before that Jaipur’s new sculpture park will be located in one of Jaipur’s most renowned

landmarks: the Nahargarh Fort. Built in 1734, the massive fort overlooks the city from a ridge towards the north. The sculpture park is at the Madhavendra Palace, once the main palace of the Rajput kings that reigned from the fort. The two-storied palace has multipled apartments across two stories, each with their own name and once dedicated to royal family members. It will host an annual exhibition of art The sculpture park at the fort is going to host an annual art and sculpture exhibition, with the first one starting on December 10, 2017. Dedicated to contemporary art and placed in a historic setting, the show promises to be very
interesting. It will showcase both Indian and international artists’ works. This year, the works of 15 Indian and nine international artists will be shown. Major international art galleries like Salon 94, New York, Livingstone Gallery, The Hague and Hauser & Wirth, London are lending their works. This is the first initiative of its kind The park itself is a first in India, and so is the public-private partnership that brought it to life. The government of Rajasthan has come together with the non-profit Saat Saath Arts for the park, collaborating with a number of corporate sponsors and private contributors to showcase contemporary art at a heritage site.
Peter Nagy, the Director of Nature Morte Art, is curating the exhibition. NOW READ: Nahargarh Fort Near Jaipur in Rajasthan May Soon Get A Thrilling Zipline The new sculpture park in Jaipur is a creative experiment by the state’s tourism to highlight India’s artwork and one of the city’s historical treasures. Jaipur, of course, is no stranger to mixing contemporary culture with heritage. The Jaipur Photo international photography festival and Jaipur Literature Festival are examples of similar initiatives in the past. Based on their success, the Sculpture Park at Nahargarh Fort should be a hit as well. You’ll have to travel to the pink city this December to find out.

eciding on an orthodontist is an important choice. Not only do you want to ensure the best possible results and a gorgeous smile, you’ll also be spending time with your doctor throughout the duration of your treatment. Do you want to know how to pick an orthodontist? I’ve got you covered. Here are some things to consider:
The Key Orthodontist Qualifications: practice, smoothly.the Youteam should willalways be warm leave andthe
First and foremost, you want to make sure a potential orthodontist is qualified to do the do job. An orthodontist is a dentist who has gone through additional, specialized training. After receiving a bachelor’s degree an orthodontist will have completed six to seven more years of schooling. A certified orthodontist has received a doctorate from a dental school, underwent complete training post-dental school and has successfully passed all examinations. Don’t be afraid inquire about their training. It doesn’t just end with a degree, however. Experience is important as well. You’ll want to determine what types of cases they’ve treated, how long they’ve been practicing and if they keep up with continuing education. Keep your needs in mind. You might require someone with an additional specialty in dentofacial orthopedics or if you’re interested in Invisalign or lingual braces, choose an orthodontist who has been trained in providing these treatments.

So, the orthodontist you have in mind is fully qualified. Now it’s on to the less tangible qualities. It all starts with the first phone call. The staff should be pleasant and accommodating. When you visit a top-notch practice, the team will be warm and friendly. They’ll answer all of your questions and put you at ease. A clean clinic with a welcoming atmosphere is essential. Though often overlooked, it’s also important to find an orthodontist who speaks in the language you’re most comfortable with to fully meet your needs.
To make sure you choose an orthodontist you like, talk to them! Kids, teens and even adults are often a little nervous about getting braces. For a low-stress process and positive orthodontist experience, a good rapport will go a long way. If the doctor is knowledgeable, listens to your concerns and goals and is upfront when it comes to the process, treatment options and costs, things will run much more
