Publisher’s Note
Oh, there’s no place like home for the holidays, No matter how far away you roam, When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze, For the holidays, you can’t beat home, sweet home.
-Robert Allen, November 1954
Dear readers,
I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday season, and while you just stepped into 2024, I wanted to send you very hearty New Year’s wishes from everyone here at the South Asian Entertainment Magazine. Like many of you, I don’t like New Year’s resolutions, but it’s not because I think they’re pointless. Most are inherently doable. Lose weight. Spend more time with family. Travel to a new place etc. If you focus on a goal long enough, you’re bound to succeed in some way or another. You just have to be patient. For me, the issue with resolutions is they come too early in the year, long before I know what I want to achieve. On Jan. 1, the New Year rang in like others before: a little celebration, a lot of reminiscing and an optimistic look at the unknown days ahead. But of course, when the ball dropped, I had no idea what – or if -- I wanted to change. When I thought about the changes I wanted to make in my life, I felt clueless for some time. At first it felt odd but later I realized how completely normal that feeling is. This issue is our first of 2024, and all I want to do is be thankful for this journey and your continuous support. I don’t aim for sweeping changes. Instead, I want to nurture and cultivate better relationships and let life take its course. This year, I plan to keep altering, innovating and challenging things that I have already been doing and lastly, resolve to make resolutions as we go. In the year 2024, I hope that you introspect, value, change and bloom into the best version of yourself.

He is originally from an area near Amritsar, Punjab where he grew up in a nuclear family, the youngest of 3 siblings. “I had a carefree life in India. If I was in India I doubt I would be as ambitious as I am now.”
When he arrived in Canada in 2017 he completed his masters degree in computers in Vancouver and landed a coveted job in IT, with a prestigious company in North Vancouver. Shortly after, during the pandemic in 2020 he took a chance on a new career. Today he is a tremendously successful realtor, who

He credits his family with the support they offer in making his somewhat risky decisions. “The reason for that is my parents could have told me to stay in my previous field but they supported me. My parents just said if you feel this is the right field for you then, we support you, anything you need. Both of my sisters and brother in laws are extremely supportive.” Since childhood he has been community focused, always giving to those underprivileged. As we start to learn more about who he is, and what motivates him, he can barely contain his excitement. He tells us about an event he is planning.
“Actually, I have a funny story for you. When someone tells me I cannot do something, I say watch me! A friend of mine said you need at least six months to create an event. So that same day, I went and put a $10,000 deposit down at Reflections Banquet Hall and booked my event which is happening at the end of December. My goal is to raise $50,000 for BC Children’s Hospital. I really love children.” What sets Deepinder apart from other Real-Estate agents? “I always work for people’s best interest not for the money. When I started real estate I had zero knowledge I kept struggling for about 2 months, 4am I used to wake up every morning and start my day, including door knocking and finally home at 9pm. After I did my first sale the happiness I felt, the accomplishment - I was hooked.” Deepinder says, kids don’t talk to their parents. Parents will guide you, trust your parents they’re number one, whatever they say everything is right. The support of his parents and guidance is immeasurable. “My father told me that when someone puts their trust in you and you sell them a property, surely it will grow in value, but
god forbid it decreases in value - that person will remember you for their entire life. People connect with a good vibe, that’s the ultimate thing. I have a responsibility to my clients, once you gain someone’s trust you don’t want to rupture that.” In his spare time he likes to help his mother in the kitchen. “After an open house on the weekends I enjoy a glass of wine, I enjoy cooking with my mom. My mom is basically my right arm, she’s helped the whole family, she takes care of my sisters kids. I always talk to my mom.”

Eye care tips for the
holiday season
Be mindful of screen time: With online gift shopping, holiday movies, and virtual gatherings, our eyes are working overtime. Combat digital eye strain by taking breaks every 20 minutes, focusing on an object 20 feet away to alleviate eye fatigue. Eat and drink wisely: What you eat and drink is important to maintaining excellent eye health. So why not incorporate eye-healthy foods in your
holiday menu? Including foods like salmon, sunflower seeds, meat and poultry, sweet potatoes, spinach and carrots in your festive feast can boost your eye health and overall wellbeing. And when it comes to consuming alcohol, moderation is key. Excessive alcohol intake has been linked
to dry eyes, distorted vision and headaches. Consider using eye drops: During the colder winter months, eyes can feel drier. Consider using lubricating eye drops to combat this. Use eye drops before your eyes are dry or causing you any discomfort. Keeping your eyes moisturized and well lubricated will also make you more comfortable, allowing you to enjoy your holiday festivities to the fullest.
are only for the summer, this is simply not true! In fact, sunglasses are something that you should wear all year long to protect your eyes. In snowy conditions, sunglasses are crucial to prevent “snow blindness” or photokeratitis. Schedule an eye exam: Even if you think your eyes are healthy, there’s no way to know for sure until you have an eye exam with your optometrist. You should see your eye doctor every year for a routine eye exam, even if you don’t wear glasses or contacts.
Practice makeup hygiene: Glitter eyeshadow and bold looks are festive, but remember to remove all makeup before bed. Sleeping in makeup can lead to styes, cause irritation and contribute to dry eye symptoms. Wear sunglasses: Although people think that sunglasses

6 miskates made with life insurance and how to avoid them Life insurance is a critical financial tool that provides security and peace of mind to individuals and their families.
Yet, many people need help with purchasing and managing their life insurance policies. In this article, we will explore eight of these mistakes and guide how to avoid them to motivate members of ethnic communities to invest in this essential protection. 1. Procrastination: One of the most common mistakes is delaying the purchase of life insurance. Many individuals think they have plenty of time to secure coverage, but unexpected events can hap-
pen at any age. The sooner you invest in life insurance, the more affordable and comprehensive your coverage can be. 2. Underestimating Coverage Needs: Failing to assess your family’s financial needs accurately can lead to insufficient coverage. Consider mortgage payments, education expenses, and ongoing living costs to determine the appropriate coverage amount. 3. Relying Solely on Employer Coverage: Employer-provided life insurance is a valuable benefit, but it’s often insufficient to meet your family’s needs. Relying solely on this coverage can leave your loved ones financially vulnerable.
life insurance policies serve different purposes. It’s essential to understand the distinctions between term and whole life insurance and choose the one that aligns with your specific goals. 6. Overlooking Beneficiary Designations: Naming beneficiaries is crucial to your life insurance policy. Failing to keep this information current can lead to complications during the claims process. He was financially successful in a career in the transportation industry but the long hours were keeping him apart from his family, the very reason for all of his hard work. Combining his love of sports, community and volunteering, Dhadwar was able to create the life he desired for his family and community.
His compassion for the community is overwhelming, raising funds for organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Diabetes Canada, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, just to name a few. In 2021, he spearheaded an operation in collaboration with the Guru Nanak Food Bank and BC Airlift Emergency Response. Through extensive meal preparation efforts and coordination with BC AERO, Dhadwar facilitated the airlifting of essential supplies to flood-impacted areas.
Connecting with his customers, he would ask about their events and offer his time as a volunteer. This inquisitive approach would be the start of the Amarjit Dhadwar our community knows and appreciates. “One very important conversation I had with a customer changed everything - officer Ken Usiuipik with the Delta Police Department, and his involvement with Cops for Cancer started a friendship and collaboration.” This initial encounter marked the beginning of a transformative journey that saw him become a member of Ride2Survive and many other community programs, the Director of the Delta Police Foundation, a member of the Delta Police Pipe Band, and a committed advocate for various causes. What sets Amarjit Dhadwar apart is not only his personal commitment but also his ability to engage and involve the youth. He has encouraged and mentored youth to participate in community service, guiding them toward making positive contributions to society. Dhadwar firmly believes that youth community involvement fosters personal growth, builds self-confidence, and cultivates essential skills. Dhadwar’s business faced significant hardships, due to the pandemic and lack of sporting events and gatherings. With his tenacious business mind he was able to adapt his business model to align with emerging needs in the market. “We recognized the increased demand for items like stickers, screens for workers, face masks, and security uniforms. Me and my team started sewing face masks when the suppliers were unable to provide enough.” During the pandemic when there was a shortage of drivers, Dhadwar saw an opportunity to earn money for his family and returned briefly to truck driving, despite the understandable fears and concerns. He recognized the importance of
providing for his family and persevered through the challenging circumstances. Amarjit Dhadwar’s motivation comes from his belief in humanity. “I believe that everyone has the potential to overcome hardships and achieve greatness, sometimes people need a helping hand.” We ask him, how does he find the time to volunteer and support the community as he does? “You need the heart to help, we can always make the time!” You will be sure to see Amarjit Dhandwar in the community, on his motorcycle, a big smile on his face…on his way to the next cause for humanity - he may or may not be wearing a kilt!

Your guide to setting goals and achieving them
Over 2000 years ago, Aristotle said “Well begun is half done.” And with regards to goals, he’s right. Paying attention to how we set our goals makes us more likely to achieve them and achieving them makes us feel good about ourselves and our lives. So, this year let’s try to set goals and put in our best efforts to achieve them. Here’s how you can do it: Decide. Think of something you want to do or work towards. It doesn’t matter what, as long as it’s something you want to do - ideally something you’re interested in or feel excited by. It should be something you want to do for its own sake not for something or someone else. It can be a big thing or a small thing sometimes it is easier to get going with something small.
my garden by the end of May’ rather than ‘I want to do some gardening.’ Write your goals in terms of what you want, not what you don’t want. For example: ‘I want to be able to wear my favorite jeans again’, rather than ‘I don’t want to be overweight anymore’.
Write it down. Carefully. Writing down our goals increases our chances of sticking with them. Write down how you will know you have reached your goals and when you’d like to have achieved it by. Ask yourself: what it will ‘look’ like and how will you feel when you’ve done it? Describe your goal in specific terms and time-scales e.g. ‘I want to plant lettuce, carrots and peas in the empty patch in
Break your goal down. This is especially important for big goals. Think about the smaller goals that are steps on the way to achieving your bigger aim. Sometimes our big goals are a bit vague, like ‘I want to be healthier’. Breaking these down helps us be more specific. So a smaller goal might be ‘go running regularly’ or even ‘to be able to run around the park in 20 minutes without stopping’.
18
Tell someone. Telling someone we know about our goals also seems to increase the likelihood that we will stick at them.
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
Write down your smaller goals and try to set some dates to do these too. Having several smaller goals makes each of them a bit easier and gives us a feeling of success along the way, which also makes it more likely that we’ll stay on track towards our bigger goal. Plan your first step. An ancient Chinese proverb says that the journey of 1000 miles starts with one step. Even if your goal isn’t to walk 1000 miles, thinking about the first step on the way will really help to get you started. Even if you don’t know where to start there’s no excuse - your first step could be to research ‘how to…’ on the internet or think of people you could ask or to get a book on the subject from the library. Then think of your next step…and the next… Keep going. Working towards our goals can sometimes be difficult and frustrating - so
we need to persevere. If a step you’re doing isn’t working, think of something else you could try that still moves you forward, even a tiny bit. If you’re struggling, ask people you know for their ideas on what you could do. They may help you see a different way. Thinking about different ways of reaching our goals makes it more likely we’ll be successful. If you’re really struck - take a break and then re-read the goal you wrote down when you started. If you need to adjust your goal - that’s ok too. Then have another think about a small next step… Celebrate. When you reach your goal, take time to enjoy it and thank those that helped you. Think about what you enjoyed and learned along the way. Now, what is your next goal or project going to be? By: IANS

n an era where children grapple with a multitude of challenges, both online and offline, the pivotal role of parents in providing a compassionate ear and unwavering support has never been more crucial. This article delves into the essential need for parents to cultivate a safe space for open communication, allowing children to freely share experiences, concerns, and aspirations without judgment or repercussions. By dismantling barriers of fear and misunderstanding, we pave the way for children to navigate daily stressors, ensuring they feel supported and connected in their journey. As a high school student, I understand the tangible challenges in our everevolving world, from academic
pressures to the intricate dynamics of social interactions and the pervasive influence of social media. Recognizing the need for parents as pillars of support and empathetic listeners, this article delves into the crucial importance of fostering a safe space for open communication. Let’s dive into why open communication is vital and how you can make it happen. Fostering a Safe Space for Communication: Imagine a home where children feel secure, knowing that expressing their thoughts and feelings is not just allowed but valued. This safe space is the breeding ground for open communication. Feeling accepted at home empowers us to share our experiences, concerns, and accomplishments. It’s about
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
Active Engagement in Conversations: Beyond providing a safe space, actively engaging in conversations is key. Understanding our daily lives, interests, and challenges helps you build relationships where we feel valued. When you express genuine interest, it sends a powerful message that our experiences matter. This builds trust and openness within the family, making communication more natural. Navigating Challenges Together: Life is full of challenges, and facing them together transforms hurdles into opportunities for growth. When you collaborate with us in addressing life’s issues, it forms a powerful sense of unity. This shared approach instills resilience and problem-solving skills, providing emotional stability and equipping us with tools for future obstacles. In navigating challenges together, our families become a source of strength. Open Discussions: Open discussions at home serve as a gateway for us to expand our understanding of the world. Conversations with our parents cultivate a rich learning environment,
offering insights into diverse perspectives, cultures, and ideas. These discussions foster curiosity, encouraging us to ask questions, seek answers, and develop a love for learning. Moreover, they create a supportive space where we can express ourselves, promoting emotional intelligence and building a foundation for healthy relationships. Humility in Parenting: It’s common for parents to feel they’re always right, but embracing open communication means setting aside ego. Healthy discussions become a two-way learning street where both parties gain valuable insights. To foster this environment, it’s crucial to challenge the notion of absolute authority and remain open to learning from each other. 3 reasons why you should take a family vacation It is crucial to take family holidays timeto-time as it helps you develop a great bond with all of the family members. It is not just fun to plan family holidays, the moments spent with your loved ones can help you get rid of your stress and pressure.
O
ur best childhood memories often involve the adventures we had during our vacations. That moment when we were frozen in time at the sight of a majestic historical building or the glimpse of the azure blue sky against breathtaking snow-capped mountains – these are reminiscences of family holidays that stay with us forever and bring a sense of joy and togetherness. Here are top reasons why it’s the right time to go with your family on a funfilled vacay! 1. They are perfect for making memories with your children Every child wants to have unforgettable memories or experiences during family holidays. Family vacation provides family memories that family members can cherish throughout their lives and tell the story of it to their kids one day. This is one of the good ways to connect with your child and give them the memory of a lifetime. Children are always up for new adventures and vacations are the best way to nurture their desire to learn new things. It has been proven that more than theoretical knowledge, practical experience is a better way of learning new things. Family vacations help in a child’s brain development, which in turn improves concentration and is beneficial to physical and mental health. Studies have shown that children who travel get higher grades in school than those who don’t. 2. Family holidays promote family health When family members spend time together doing outdoor activities, they strengthen family relationships and family

It is only when a family goes on a holiday that they get uninterrupted time to interact – walking on the grass together, exploring new places, going for a swim in the sea, having a laugh at a joke over lunch – these are things families enjoy doing when they are together during vacations. This kind of relaxed time that parents share with children creates everlasting bonds.

3. Family vacation brings out the inner explorer in you With a new place to explore, a family vacation can become a fun adventure for the child. Going to a different place increases the curiosity in kids. There’s a vast canvas to absorb from, not just for children but also for adults. Right from flora, fauna to culture, people, relationships, architecture, history, there is so much to see and experience. They come to know that there is a world apart from theirs, which is beautiful and exciting. It
also shows them that there are people and places very different from there and how everybody lives in harmony. Be it a one-day trip or a big vacation, initiating these trips and going is important. Going on vacations refreshes the mind and rejuvenates it. But along with that it also refreshes and rejuvenates the relationships. It gives your child an opportunity to explore and grasp new avenues. So take your child and go on an adventure, creating new memories. January 2024

heat can strip away the natural oils from your skin, leaving it excessively dry. While the brave can opt for cold water, we suggest a compromise: indulge in the skin-loving benefits of lukewarm water for baths and facial cleansing. CHOOSE A THICK MOISTURIZER: Timing is everything in the art of moisturizing, especially during harsh winters. Post-shower, gently pat your skin dry and immediately apply a rich, thick moisturizer. Unlike the light formulations perfect for summers, winter demands a denser texture to lock in essential moisture. DON’T SKIP SUNSCREEN: It’s easy to consider skipping it due to shorter winter days and reduced sunlight but think twice. Even in colder months, harmful UV rays can pose a threat to your skin’s moisture barrier - crucial for maintaining skin health and hydration. Incorporate a good sunscreen into your morning routine postmoisturizing to ensure your skin stays shielded and wellnourished.
AVOID OVEREXFOLIATION: Exfoliation is key to remove dead cells and encourage cell turnover. However, during winters, the skin tends to be more sensitive, hence it crucial to exercise caution and avoid overexfoliating. Choose a mild exfoliant and incorporate it into your routine every 7-10 days. Resist the urge to overscrub, as harsher exfoliation can disrupt your skin’s moisture barrier. EAT RIGHT: Fuel your body with antioxidant-rich fruits, veggies, and heart-healthy fats found in fish, seeds and nuts. Hydrate not just with water but also with soups and juices. Combat dryness with almonds, a skin-nourishing snack that adds radiance to your winter beauty routine. We hope these tips help you defy the winter blues and remember to be patient and consistent with your skincare routine! Happy winters and may your skin glow brighter than ever! Source: IANSLife

Harry Potter movies saved me as single parent raising 2 kids: Gary Oldman

Oldman divorced his ex-wife, Donya Fiorentino, in 2001. “At 42 years old, I woke up divorced and I had custody of these boys and so that, in itself, was…” he said on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, reports Entertainment Weekly. “That was hard because there was a shift in the industry where a lot of productions were being (filmed in), it was Hungary, Budapest, Prague, Australia, you know, all of these places.” Barrymore then explained to the audience that filming locations had shifted around the globe due to “tax reasons”. As a result, Oldman said he “turned down a lot of work” in order to be with his children.

He would go on to reprise the role over the following two instalments before his character’s tragic end in 2007’s ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’. Debunking cold-weather beauty misconceptions
As the temperature drops, so does the moisture level in the air, making winter a challenging season for our skin. However, navigating the realm of winter skincare requires separating fact from fiction.
W
inter skincare requires a thoughtful and informed approach. By debunking these common myths, you can tailor your skincare routine to combat the specific challenges posed by colder weather. Embrace the season with a well-rounded regimen that keeps your skin nourished, hydrated, and glowing all winter long. Let’s debunk some common cold-weather beauty myths to ensure your skin stays radiant and healthy throughout the chilly months. Myth #1: You Don’t Need Sunscreen in winter One of the biggest misconceptions is that
sunscreen is only essential during the summertime. In reality, harmful UV rays are present year-round and can lead to premature aging and skin damage. Snow can even reflect UV rays, intensifying their impact. So, don’t stash away the sunscreen – make it a yearround skincare staple. Myth #2: Hot Showers Help Combat Dry Skin While a hot shower may feel heavenly on a cold winter day, it can exacerbate dry skin issues. Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to increased dryness and irritation. Opt for lukewarm showers and limit their duration to maintain your skin’s natural moisture balance. Afterward, lock in moisture with a rich, hydrating lotion or cream to keep your skin soft and

supple. Myth #3: Drinking Water Alone Hydrates Your Skin While staying hydrated is crucial for overall health, relying solely on drinking water may not be enough to combat winter skin woes. Cold air tends to be drier, and indoor heating systems further contribute to moisture loss. Incorporate hydrating skincare products with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin to replenish and lock in moisture. This dual approach will keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Myth #4: Petroleum Jelly Is the Ultimate Moisturizer While petroleum jelly can create a barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss, it doesn’t actively hydrate the skin. For effective winter skincare, opt for moisturizers with ingredients like Shea butter, ceramides, and fatty acids. These components help nourish the skin, restore its protective barrier, and combat the harsh effects of winter weather.
Myth #5: Exfoliation Is a No-Go in Winter Contrary to popular belief, exfoliation remains a vital step in winter skincare. Cold weather can lead to a buildup of dead skin cells, causing dullness and flakiness. Choose a gentle exfoliator with ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) to slough off dead skin cells, promoting a smoother and more radiant complexion. Limit exfoliation to once or twice a week to avoid over-drying. Myth #6: You Only Need Lip Balm When Lips Are Chapped Prevention is key when it comes to caring for your lips in winter. Waiting until your lips are chapped to use lip balm can make it harder to restore their natural softness. Make lip balm a daily essential, applying it regularly to keep your lips moisturized and protected from the harsh winter elements.

All you need to know about the
lonliness epidemic U
nited States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy released a new Surgeon General Advisory calling attention to the public health crisis of loneliness, isolation, and lack of connection . Even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately half of U.S. adults reported experiencing measurable levels of loneliness. Disconnection fundamentally affects our mental, physical, and societal health. In fact, loneliness and isolation increase the risk for individuals to develop mental health challenges in their lives, and lacking connection can increase the risk for premature death to levels comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes daily. About 45% adults and 20% adolescents reported being Lonely around the world and a similar trend is observed including India, Africa, South America, Europe and China. 30 years ago lot of us were living in a extended or a joint family setup. Now most of us live in nuclear family. It is also seen that people are migrating more due to schooling or work which as increased loneliness. So one must take time to visit family more frequently. The physical health consequences of poor or insufficient connection include a 29% increased risk of heart disease, a 32% increased risk of stroke, and a 50% increased risk of developing dementia for older adults. Additionally, lacking social connection increases risk of premature death by more than 60% In addition to our physical health, loneliness and isolation contribute substantially to mental health challenges. In adults, the risk of developing depression among people who report feeling lonely often is more than double that of people who rarely or never feel lonely. Loneliness and social isolation in childhood increase the risk of depression and anxiety both immediately and well into the future. And with more than one in five adults and more than one in three young adults living with a mental illness in the U.S., addressing loneliness and isolation is critical in order to fully address the mental health

patients for risk of loneliness and intervene.
While the epidemic of loneliness and isolation is widespread and has profound consequences for our individual and collective health and well-being, there is a medicine hiding in plain sight: social connection
Reform Digital Environments: We must critically evaluate our relationship with technology and ensure that how we interact digitally does not detract from meaningful and healing connection with others.
Social connection is beneficial for individual health and also improves the resilience of our communities. Evidence shows that increased connection can help reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, dementia, and depression. Communities where residents are more connected with one another fare better on several measures of population health, community safety, community resilience when natural disasters strike, prosperity, and civic engagement. This Surgeon General’s Advisory lays out a framework for the United States to establish a National Strategy to Advance Social Connection based on six foundational pillars: Strengthen Social Infrastructure: Connections are not just influenced by individual interactions, but by the physical elements of a community (parks, libraries, playgrounds) and the programs and policies in place. To strengthen social infrastructure, communities must design environments that promote connection, establish and scale community connection programs, and invest in institutions that bring people together.
Deepen Our Knowledge: A more robust research agenda, beyond the evidence outlined in the advisory, must be established to further our understanding of the causes and consequences of social disconnection, populations at risk, and the effectiveness of efforts to boost connection. Cultivate a Culture of Connection: The informal practices of everyday life (the norms and culture of how we engage one another) significantly influence the relationships we have in our lives. We cannot be successful in the other pillars without a culture of connection. Practical Solutions 4Text a friend or family member daily 4Visit family or a friend often 4Indulge in volunteer work, sports, hobby 4Visit Gurdwara / Mandir / Masjid / Church 4Re-kindle your faith groups 4Maintain work life balance. 4Eat healthy and sleep at least for 7 hours 4Discuss with family and friends 4Counselling if negative thoughts 4If worsening then see your family doctor.
Enact Pro-Connection Public Policies: National, state, local, and tribal governments play a role in establishing policies like accessible public transportation or paid family leave that can support and enable more connection among a community or a family. Mobilize the Health Sector: Because loneliness and isolation are risk factors for several major health conditions (including heart disease, dementia, depression) as well as for premature death, health care providers are well-positioned to assess

“My Dog Is an Escape Artist!” In this month’s article, we will discuss the reasons as to why your dog is an escape artist who frequently looks for ways to run away from home!
M
any owners feel very confused at the idea of trying to understand why their dog is constantly trying to find ways to getaway.
There are many behavioral aspects to these situations that can be determined as the cause for your dog feeling the need to escape his safe home environment. One of the most common explanations for this is out of simple boredom. Many dogs feel the need for adventure and wish to venture out into ‘the real world’ when they are not receiving enough enrichment at home. In order to entertain themselves, they will find ways to escape into ‘the wild’ and explore their friendly neighborhood. Dogs will appreciate a good hunt in this manner of finding squirrels, rodents, neighborhood cats or other animals to chase around. They could also be simply trying to find a play mate to fulfill their void of enrichment. Finding a playmate can result in a good

friendship, but it can also lead to other complications, such as disease transference, fights, unplanned mating, or accidents. The simple fix to this problem is providing your pet with activities to keep them busy, spending more quality time with them and making sure that they are getting adequate amounts of exercise in their daily routine. On a more serious note, one of the more concerning reasons as to why dogs become escape artists is due to the emotion of fear. This could stem from external sources, such as sounds coming from fireworks, thunderstorms, construction, etc. Dogs can be very sensitive to these extremely loud and terrifying sounds. Thus, becoming very fearful and feeling the need to escape from their current location to find a safer option. During Halloween and celebratory holidays, it is very common to have reported incidents of dogs running away from home, as they feel that the sounds of these external causes can often times become too difficult to bear. It is advised that if you are aware of your dog’s sensitivity to these sounds, then a good preventative measure would be to ensure your dog is in a safe environment during holidays involving fireworks, or to contact your local veterinarian about medical management options. ThunderShirts can be found in majority pet supply stores, which are tightly wrapped blankets around your pet that ensure the feeling of safety for them during terrible storms. Other options include Lavender Essential oil aromatherapy, soothing white noise or treats
can assist in making these experiences more bearable for your dog. If you are aware of the common methods of escape that your dog uses around the house, then it is important to ensure that those routes have been secured and cannot be used further. Keeping a tracker on your pet can also provide comfort in being able to locate him instantly, once he has escaped. It is advised to neuter or spay your pet, along with be up to date on vaccinations, at the appropriate recommended age to ensure that accidents of unplanned mating or certain disease transference can be avoided in these situations. It can be beneficial to provide ample amounts of exercise to your pet so that they are stimulated to the point of not feeling the need to run away! Despite all these methods that have been mentioned to help your pet with feeling more enriched and safer, if the behavior of running away continues, it may also be valuable to consult with a trainer who can assist you with learning techniques to ensure that your pet remains in your safe home.

ollywood star Ranveer Singh, who is known for ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Gully Boy’, unveiled his two wax figures as he visited Madame Tussauds
He was accompanied by his mother, who, as a child, first introduced the actor to the world of Madame Tussauds London by showing him album pictures of her own visits to the attraction. The London figure pays homage to Ranveer’s culture and heritage with the neon sherwani designed by Manish Arora as part of his wedding celebrations. The outfit includes hundreds of individually sewn embellishments and flamboyant leopard head shoulder detail, tied together with a triplelayered diamond and pearl necklace, and eight large gemstone set rings. The figure was originally announced in 2019 when the actor received the Madame Tussauds of the Future Award at the IIFAs – the International Indian Film Academy – where it was revealed that he would be joining the starstudded attraction. fter graduating in 1999, I took an unexpected turn into the world of finance, joining ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. Twelve years within the insurance sector saw me rise through the ranks to the role of Associate Vice President. Yet, my heart yearned for a different kind of challenge. Fast forward to the present, and I find myself as a Small Business Manager at TD Bank in Canada, a transition that not only changed my professional landscape but reignited the athlete within. The multicultural canvas of Canada became the backdrop for a new chapter
in my sporting endeavors. My love affair with sports began during my school years, where I played football, cricket, and engaged in athletics. Being part of the Cadets-NCC instilled in me values of discipline and teamwork, shaping the athlete I would become. The pivotal moment came in 2014 when I relocated to Canada. This marked not just a geographical shift but a turning point for my athletic pursuits. In 2007, I took on the challenge of my first half marathon in Shimla, a breathtaking journey through the hills, shared with my younger

Mumbai witnessed my inaugural full marathon, a milestone etched in the memories of a vibrant city. The dream of conquering the Ironman loomed large in 2007, and it became a reality in 2023, with two Ironman 70.3 events in Victoria and Maple Valley. The dream of completing an Ironman, which began in 2007, was not a mere ambition but a beacon that guided me through years of training, setbacks, and triumphs. hile dry skin is common, especially during winter, it can be effectively managed, resulting in comfort and a pleasant complexion. Some natural remedies can help alleviate these problems and restore moisture to your skin. Two such ingredients are glycerin and honey, which have incredible nourishing power to combat dry skin. Glycerin: The Humectant Hero Glycerin, also known as glycerol, has been used in skincare for centuries due to its incredible moisturizing properties. It is a hygroscopic ingredient, which can absorb and retain moisture from the environment, making it a popular ingredient in many skincare products. One of the main benefits of glycerin is that it acts as a protector for the skin. When used on dry skin, glycerin works by absorbing small droplets from the surroundings, and the skin feels nourished and smooth. Honey: Nature’s Liquid Gold Honey is a natural sweetener and culinary delight but has amazing skin care properties. visualization, speaking your intentions out loud, a vision board and/or a “future box,” which is a container full of pictures of items you want to manifest—but you need to say exactly what you want.
you hate.
You can also write your intention down on paper. If you’ve spent any time on TikTok, you might be familiar with the 369 method—in which you write down what you want in the following order: three times in the morning, six times in the
2. Show gratitude. It’s not just about being grateful, but also about getting into the energy of gratitude. Stay focused on what you do have and not what you don’t have.
afternoon, and nine times at night for 33 or 45 days—but it can also be as simple as a letter to the universe. And start working toward your goals. Here are 11 little things to do every single day to manifest happiness in the year 2023: 1. Do what you love. This is a giveaway. After all, you don’t want to be doing the things
Be sure to go with your passion and the things that bring you joy. You can always manifest good things from a place of joy.
3. Listen to music and watch shows. Yes, you read that right. I’m not talking about just any music and any shows. I’m talking about music and shows that activate positive things into your vibration for you. Music and shows that put you into the feeling of what you want to manifest. Music and shows that put you in a great mood! 4. Envision what you want as if you already have it. When you’re thinking about something that you want, replace “I wish I had it” with how it feels to actually have it. A good practice is to do this right when you wake up in

the morning or before you go to bed so that you begin and end your day with that energy. 5. Write out affirmations. Make your affirmations relevant to you. Whatever you need to say. Do not just write them out. Believe them, feel them, stay consistent with them. 6. Take risks. As you know, no one ever lived their dream life by playing it safe. Really. Take risks. Do what your soul tells you to do even if it’s scary. Push past the “uncomfortableness” to reach for the greater reward. 7. Surround yourself with the right people. Surround yourself with people who believe in the world as you do. Surround yourself with people who can activate positive thoughts, ideas, and beliefs into your vibration. There will always be “Negative Nellies,” but allow yourself to spend the majority of your time with “Positive Pams.” 8. Listen to your mind, body, and soul.
You can usually manifest more of what you desire from a place of honoring your wants and needs, rather than doing what you feel like you have to do. Obviously, there’s always balance. There will always be things that you have to do. However, by consistently honoring yourself, you are sending off a message to the Universe that you are serious about what you desire. 9. Check your thoughts and words. Become mindful of the areas of your life that you want to improve. Check what you are thinking about and saying in those areas of your life. Are your thoughts and words positive? 10. Live luxuriously. Whatever it is that luxury looks like to you. If you are striving for luxury, start acting like what you have is luxurious. Because it is in perspective. 11. Do not deprive yourself. This does not mean to obsess over things and make poor decisions. Not at all. Again, there’s always balance.
