One of the friendly Bay Subaru sales teams suggested that he take the reviewer for a run around the block, to give a practical explanation of the third generation EyeSight technology in action. The EyeSight principal of operation says that if a driver comes distracted or doesn’t react quickly to a potentially danger our traffic situation, the EyeSight system kicks in to avoid a crash or reduce the severity of frontal accidents. A brazen theft The last thing Jennie Bruce expected as she reversed out of her driveway one Sunday morning was to watch the front of her car to slam into the ground.

Django – it sounds straight out of a Quentin Tarantino movie, but that’s where the similarities end.

It is called Django, a neo-retro scooter that, 60 years on, resurrects the myth of the sublime S55 and the S57. Created in the early 1950s, at the time the S55 was a very comfortable and well-equipped two-seater scooter with genuine practical qualities. First and foremost, it was the very first scooter marketed by Peugeot and over time evolved into the S57. As a symbol of freedom and French elegance, designers have taken their inspiration from this scooter to create the silhouette of its successor: Django. With its musical name and its

irresistibly retro styling, Django owes its identity to a unique heritage. Inspired by its past, Django is a scooter with lines that seem to want to rewrite history, 60 years later. A question of styling history. Peugeot New Zealand product specialist Tony van Tiburg says the Django scooter adds another string to the bow of the already strong Peugeot Scooter. “Being 50cc these scooters are able to be ridden on a normal car licence meaning these scooters are truly something for everyone. This retrostyled scooter brings a touch of Europe to New Zealand without the hefty Greg Taipari price tag.”

So imagine the Whitianga local’s surprise, disbelief and anger when she discovered that someone had stolen the two front tyres off of her car and had left the vehicles on a pair of jacks. Jennie made the unfortunate discovery as she was heading off to work on Sunday morning, September 6. “Neither of us noticed anything, but when the car slammed into the ground, well, it’s hard not to take notice,” says husband Peter MacGregor. “I mean, when was the last time you checked to see if your car had all its four wheels?” The couple own a property in the Whitianga Waterways and while it is fully fenced, Peter says a footpath is right opposite their driveway where the cars are parked. He believes the culprits were after the 18-inch Konig wheel mags and thinks they must’ve been disturbed as they only stole two of the four tyres. “The way police described it to us, the thieves would have had to get the nuts off the tyres and hammer the thing on the end to get the lock nuts off and that would have created quite a racket.” There is a silver lining though as the underside of the car and the panels escaped damaged when the car smashed into the ground. “For us, the mags are irrelevant, we just hope police catch the people responsible so they can be held accountable for their actions.”

Lining up for the sixth and final round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship’s Wairarapa Rally, Phil needed Ben Hunt to finish 17th, or worst, to overtake the Auckland-based driver. But that was not to be the case with Ben and co-driver Tony Rawstorn claiming their first national rally championship title after a conservative drive in one of the most closely fought rounds of the rally championship in recent memory, which eventually saw Rangiora brother and sister Matt and Nicole Summerfield take the round victory. Ben didn’t show the form that has seen him take maximum points in four of this seasons rally, but was always in a position that would see him claim a first national championship. “I could never have imagined this after it all started when I won the Rally New Zealand Rising Stars Scholarship seven years ago. I just have to thank everyone who trusted me across that time to make this happen,” Ben says. Meanwhile Matt, who picked first on the road at the pre-event start order draw, took the

lead on stage two after a major charge through the infamous Ridge Road, where he took the lead off stage one winner Mt Maunganui’s David Holder and his co-driver Jason Farmer. Matt held the edge across the morning before heavy gravel hampered him and David was able to chase down the gap, which had been as much as 37 seconds at the launch, down to 0.7 seconds going into the final stage. An epic battle loomed between two of the sports rising stars through the final stage and in the end, a spin from David would decide the fight between the pair in Matt’s favour. “It’s just unbelievable to win after a hard year we’ve had at times, it’s a testament to all the team and the sponsors that made this happen,” Matt says. 2015 Brian Green Property Group NZ Rally Championship final points standings: 1.
