KatikatiCricketClubmembershavebeen leftdisheartenedbyvandalismaftervehicles wereusedtoriptheturftoshreds.

Themembersnowfacehoursofextratimeand expensecorrectingthedamagedonel astweekend.

ClubpresidentandgroundsmanBenWarren hadarrivedonSaturdaymorningtoprepare thegrounds,whicharesharedwithKatikati FootballClub,fortheupcomingmatchthatday. Hediscoveredthatovernight“patheticvandals” haddonekidsanddonutsacrosstheentireturf causingdeepgroovesanddivots.

Theperpetratorshadbrokenthroughthe bollardsatMoorePark.Itisbelievedautewas involvedasitappearsitemshadfallenofftheback ofit.

A final festival bytheriver

ThefourthandfinalRiverSounds Festivalwasabittersweetbut beautifulfinale,according toorganisers.

TheRiverSoundsFestival–an11-hour eventheldinruralKatikati–hasbeen focusedonmentalhealthandwellbeing throughoutitsfour-yearstintbutthefinal eventwasheldonFebruary15.

“Itwasveryspecialasthereason westartedthefestivalwastocreate safespacesforpeopletoconnect,be vulnerableandsharetheirexperiences inmentalhealthandwellbeing.We managedtoachievejustthat,”said EveryoneHurtsFoundationco-founder JessicaDine.

“Itfeelsverybittersweetaswefeellike thementalhealthmessagecamethrough

reallystronglythistimearound...there wasalotofhealing,anditwasprofound forus.”

Thefestivalhadabout250attendees dancingandenjoyingperformersGeorgia Lines,BecSandridge,KingKapisi.Dan Sharp,MarmaladeandMash.Workshops includedyoga,breath-work,meditation andinteractivetalkswithlocalmental healthexperts.Charitypartnerforthis yearwasTePunaHauora.

Thistimeapanelwasheldforpeople tosharetheirpersonalstoriesofmental healthorloss.Aliveauctionwasheld.

Dinesaiditwasagreatcrowdanda lovelyvibe.Thetakeawaywasthereare manypeoplehurtingoutthere,people whohavenoonetotalkto,shesaid.
