Open Letter to Vladimir

pen

I’m excited to learn about the fast-track residency permits you have on offer – your “buddy up with Putin” scheme, escape the Woke West, come live in Russia and embrace the dictatorship deal

I am sure there will be others in New Zealand who would happily give up a peace-loving, democratic utopia like New Zealand and swap our long balmy summers and temperate winters for some brutal authoritarianism and equally harsh climes east of the Urals

I’m interested in relocating, Vlad - always one for an adventure, something exciting and different OK - I understand Russia under-performs in terms of health, social connection, environmental quality, safety and life satisfaction, but we Kiwis are of stern stuff

And it might be an opportune time to make the jump

because if Orange Donald makes it back to the Oval Office, we would, in my view, simply be serving one dictator or another

There’s obviously a demand because when you pitched your fast-track residencies to the Poms, 17 people got in touch with Russian diplomats We call them operatives

Anyhow those Poms must be from Luton, or Hull, or Hackney if they think moving to Moscow would make them upwardly mobile

Anyhow you ’ re buying trouble Vlad – do you really want the Motherland overrun with fish n ’ chip shops, warm beer, betting shops and queues

It’s also interesting they riot, burn and pillage in protest at immigration - then want to migrate themselves

Try wooing Kiwis Vlad – we ’ re a pliable, positive, hardworking, dependable bunch with a reputation for not questioning authority. We would easily embrace a repressive regime if you made it worth our while

Help me here Vlad When you describe your new relaxed immigration laws as a “chance to move to Russia for its

20 September 2024

traditional values”, how do those traditional values align with political repression and invading sovereign states? Odd, isn’t it? Perhaps it’s a cultural thing Vlad

I also need an assurance Vlad If one night, on a belly full of vodka at the “69 Pints Craft Bar” in downtown Moscow, I inappropriately let slip you were a “dick” or a “plonker”, is it likely I would be spirited off the street to die a cold lonely death in some remote Siberian gulag I would prefer incarceration somewhere where I need swimmers and sunscreen

So, you will understand, Vlad, there are issues to be addressed before I buy in, before I “embrace” the dictatorship But I do fancy a holiday home or book-a-dacha on the Black Sea even though it’s littered with the rusting hulks of your bombed-out Black Sea fleet Can you ever forgive those pesky Ukranians Vlad?

Kiwis are also hunters and gatherers And so, if we can ignore the wild bears, wolves and lynxes roaring, hissing and growling at the door in the night, we might drop a fishing line between the naval mines and catch a sea dragon But I have been told rather than filleting and frying, you should call a doctor because a sea dragon can poison and paralyse Nasty! Would a Russian fast-tracked residency permit give me reciprocal travel rights to the Kremlin’s buddy countries?

f*** yourself”. to agree Vlad.

Could visit Pyongyang and watch the “Rocket Man” as he rolls out his latest ICB to scare the beejezus out of South Korea, Japan, Philippines and all points in between I must say some people get their kicks in the weirdest ways And Vlad, would your mate Bashar al-Assad let me wander into Syria to witness firsthand a devastating, enduring multi-sided civil war from the inside As they’re happening war tours are like extreme sport - exciting and fascinating I also quite fancy a picnic on Snake Island Imagine a cuppa and asparagus roll at exactly the same place a handful of Ukranian soldiers, who were staring down the barrel, told a Russian warship to “ go f*** yourself” A memorable funny moment you would have agrree Vlad onnald J reckons he’s good mates with you and has “ no on n to distrust or doubt you ” His word is good enough for V Vlad So, an application for a Russian fast-track residency permmit is enclosed

D nald reckons he’s good with you and has “ r you”. good enough for me Vlad. So, an Russian permit enclosed.

As you famously once said Vlad - “Russia, forward!” Anyway, this is just one man ’ s opinon

Spasibo I do svidaniya – thank you and goodbye

Regards, Comrade Bunny

PS – does embracing traditional Russian values involve going to the front?

We don’t try tosell you hearing aids.

Resonate Health is the only company in New Zealand that offers a comprehensive and affordable hearing aid subscription service to its customers.

For just $90 a month you can join Resonate Unlimited, which includes:

• your own pair of top quality hearing aids, the ReSound Nexia 9 from Denmark

• free upgrade to the latest hearing aid technology from ReSound every three years

• no hidden charges; tuning and fitting consultations, and on going support, are all part of the service

• no deposit or contract to worry about

To find out more, contact Resonate Health or pop into one of our local studios for a chat. There will be one near you from Whangārei to Invercargill.

Another happy customer.

After having issues with other local places trying to get hearing aids for my husband, we booked in with Resonate Whanganui at the Whanganui home show. We loved the fact we could book appointments on a Saturday as owning our own business it is hard to make and attend weekday appointments.

Contact our audiologists: 0800 737 662 | resonatehealth.co.nz

Chris absolutely blew us away and made the process of my husband getting hearing aids so easy After a 1 hour and 30 minute appointment we were able to walk out with the hearing aids. We found the whole appointment great, Chris explained everything so well and made sure the hearing aids had no issues and we felt he went above and beyond. Will highly recommend

Dosomething blue tohelp

Prostate Cancer FoundationNZ is the organisationbehindBlue September, the Foundation’s biggest campaignof the year, where New Zealanders join with their friends, colleagues and l ovedones across the monthof September to raise muchneededfunds and awareness ofprostate cancer

“Withno government support, the funds raised fromBlue September is vital inmaking sure that those affected canget the essential help theyneed,” said FoundationChiefExecutive

Peter Dickens

“We hope that Blue Dos up anddown the countrywill raise more than$1million ofmuchneededfunds, with

Everywhoopsiehelpsamate

Be a good ba$tard: Blue September wants Kiwis to ‘ swear like a trooper ’ to support the thousands ofKiwis impactedby prostate cancer

Cuss Expletive Swear – whatever you call it, there’s no doubt that NZ is a nation of swearers Even one of our most famous global moments involved a well-placed curse, withSir Edmund Hillaryproclaiminghe ‘knocked the ba$tard off’ after ascendingEverest

Prostate Cancer Foundation NZwants you to get behind their biggest fundraising event of the year byhosting a Blue Do, texting to donate or settingup a swear jar at your office, sports club or man cave

Every time you say something ‘blue’, put in a donation or a token in the jar andyou’ll help provide vital support to patients andfamilies affectedby prostate cancer Chief executive Peter Dickens hopes Kiwis will fail miserably, but all in aid of a good cause

“We’ve got an army of supporters who hold

Blue Dos throughout the countrybut this year we added the virtual swear jar as an extra way to raise much neededfunds With no government support the funds raised are vital ”

Swearing can be therapeutic, and an expressive form of communication that can even help lessen pain andformbonds between people, so there’s a fit with swearing and difficult times in our lives

“A lot ofmen also avoid visiting their GP, only waiting until symptoms are extreme, andby then it can be too late So, talking about your health, withyour family or a healthprofessional can be the crucial step toward an earlydiagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer ”

For those who aren ’ t big swearers or sensitive to cultural considerations or children, why not swap a swear for a list of common cliché office or sports phrases and every time you use them, pop a donation in the jar Alternatively, text ‘BLUE’ to 2449 or scan the QR code to make an instant $3 donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation
