AND…andamanofimmensephysical endurance,mentaltoughness, andtechnicalskills–probably NewZealand’sgreatestsportsman ofanycode.OneSirEdmund PercivalHillary,KGONZ KBE,mountaineer,explorerand philanthropist.Andall-roundnice guy. Massivesurge Thereisamassivesurgeinthe useofpillsandpowdersinNZ witharound56,000people,or 1.6percentofthepopulation, usingcocaine.

TheOlympicrowingchampionsayshehas“real questionmarksaroundsafety”andwantsmore assurancesitdidnotposearisk,despitehealth authoritiessayingcommunitywaterfluoridationisa safeandeffectivewaytoreducetoothdecay.
Tauranga’swaterwillbefluoridatedfromOctober24 afteramajorityofcouncillorssupportedthemoveata councilmeetingonMonday.
Itmustdosotocomplywiththedirectorgeneral ofhealth’sdirectivetofluoridatefor30daysbefore November30orriskafineofupto$200,000plus $10,000perdayifnon-compliancecontinued.
Thefluoridationdirectivefirstmadebythen-director generalofhealthDrAshleyBloomfieldin2022said hehadconsideredthescientificevidenceandwas “satisfiedthatcommunitywaterfluoridationisasafe andeffectivepublichealthmeasurethatsignificantly reducestheprevalenceandseverityofdentaldecay”.
Ithasbeencontinuedbycurrentdirectorgeneralof health,DrDianaSarfati,wholastmonthdeniedthe council’srequestforadeadlineextension.
Communitymembersagainstfluoridationfilledthe publicgalleryandprotestedoutsidebeforeMonday’s councilmeetingstarted.

“Iftherehadbeenmoreeducationinschoolsaswell, maybeIwouldn’thavefeltsoashamedforsolong.”

SamandMolly’stalentblossomedfromthere. Samwonabronzemedalatthe2016Rio OlympicsintheLaserclass,andnowjoinshis oldschoolfriend,PeterBurling,onEmirates TeamNZ.Molly,a49erFXworldchampionand Olympicsilvermedallist,ispartofNewZealand’s Women’sAmerica’sCupteam.
“Molly’sbeeninBarcelonaforamonthandhas onlyseenSamtwice.They’rebothworkinglong days,traininginallconditions.That’swhenyou’ve gottohandittothem,”saidDeb.

“Jasonalwayshadthis‘nevergiveup’attitude anddetermination,”hisfatherPeteSaunderssaid.

horseriding,itwas onlyafterherhorse wasinjuredthatshe fullyshiftedherfocus towindsurfing.
“Shewasalways sporty,”hermother PaulineTenHavesaid.“Whenshewasinher lastyearofprimaryschool,shedidathreedaysailingcourseandlovedit.”
AkeyturningpointforVeerlewas competingintheworldchampionships inItaly.“Shefinishedsecond-to-last,but itdidn’tmatter.Shelovedthevibeofthe competitionandwashooked.”
Inspired Veerlewasinspiredbysportspeoplesuchas BarbaraKendallandcoachesalongthewaybut remainsabigbelieverinmakingsureenjoyment isthekeyfactor,saidPauline.
