Activities Fall is Gourd-geous! Sunset Movie Series New Youth and Adult Art Classes Super Safari Preschool – Now Enrolling
SUNNYVALE RECREATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Are you ready for fall? We are! Our Library and Recreation Services team continues to work hard to provide a variety of safe classes and activities to keep you and your family healthy and engaged. I am excited for the fall season with many enriching opportunities but first a quick recap from Summer activities. We’ve had an incredible summer and it’s clear our youth were craving a summer of fun! More than 1,568 youth participated in 60+ traditional, arts, sports, STEM and teen leadership camps, a 20% increase from 2021. For Read Beyond the Beaten Path Summer Reading Program, 1,700+ children, teens and adults registered and participated throughout the summer. It was great to see families visit with the staff at our weekly Thursday Night at the Park events at Washington Park. In July, we celebrated the opening of Muwékma Park. This 6.5acre park has many amenities that will be perfect for all community members to enjoy including a multi-use field, picnic tables, outdoor fitness equipment, jogging trail, a dog park and a playground. The aquatics team delivered multiple programs across three pools including: 300+ swim lessons for 743 youth and adults, lap swim, water fitness classes and recreation swim amidst a national lifeguard shortage. It was a delight to see the community enjoy our newly renovated Washington Community Swim Center facility. I want to thank our small but mighty aquatics team for delivering quality programs and services. If anyone is interested in applying to be a lifeguard, we will train you to join the team. Email aquatics@sunnyvale.ca.gov to find out more. And now, we look forward to fall fun! We have a wide variety of fall activities to entice residents of all ages! Enroll your 3-5 year old in our play-based two- or three-day Super Safari Preschool program or check out the preschool age classes including Youth Evolution Basketball Baby Ballers, Princess Pre-Ballet or Rhythm Kids. Plus, visit the Sunnyvale Library for upcoming storytimes. For school-age youth, check out new classes including Textile Art and LEGO programs! Don’t forget to register now to reserve your spot for December winter camps! For teens looking to improve their writing, be sure not to miss the Achievements in Reading and Writing. For adults, explore our Beginning Sewing or ShapeUp Sunnyvale fitness program. For adults 50+, look at our new drop-in ballroom dance or our Lectures and Workshops offerings. And, last but not least, September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, so make sure you have Sunnyvale Public Library card. We also have fun special events coming up this season such as our Sunset Movie Series, State of the City and our Holiday events including The Great Candy Cane Hunt, Gingerbread House Decorating, Holiday Wreath Making and our familyfavorite Breakfast with Santa! Please feel free to send us your program ideas and questions at recreation@sunnyvale.ca.gov. Sincerely, Michelle Perera Director of Library and Recreation Services

OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19 Updated July 14, 2022
Health Screening Questions
What We’ve Done
BEFORE you leave your home to come to class/camp, ANSWER the daily health screening questions below.
The City will follow both the State and County Health Orders, and where there is a conflict between the two, the stricter rules must be followed. Check Sunnyvale.ca.gov/virus for possible activity changes.
1A Within the past 3 DAYS and TODAY, have YOU had ONE or MORE of these SYMPTOMS:
Masks – When to Wear Them? Masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, regardless of vaccination status inside all City facilities, restrooms, locker rooms and park buildings. Some classes and activities may REQUIRE participants to wear masks during program activities. Check your receipt for this requirement.
1B
• Diarrhea
• Muscle or body aches
• Nausea or vomiting
• Congestion or runny nose
Within the past 10 DAYS, have YOU had CLOSE CONTACT* with someone who has a SUSPECTED or a CONFIRMED POSITIVE (Antigen or PCR) COVID-19 test result? • Sunnyvale Recreation REQUIRES close contacts to wear a mask during program hours (unless actively eating or drinking) for 10 days after exposure. • Santa Clara County Health Dept. recommends testing on Day 3-5 from exposure. If YOU test positive, stay home and email Sunnyvale Recreation.
If you answer YES to 1B: • tell staff upon arrival • wear a mask during camp/class for 10 days after exposure
If there is a reported positive COVID-19 antigen/PCR test, staff will notify participants of close contact status via email and may give additional instructions on isolation/quarantine as directed by the Santa Clara County of Public Health.
• Recommend testing on day3-5 from exposure
For youth programs, Sunnyvale Recreation is MANDATED to report >3 positive test cases to the Santa Clara County of Public Health within 24 hours of notification.

Close contacts include people who shared indoor airspace with the infected person for a continuous 15 minutes or longer, as well as people who shared indoor airspace with the case over multiple short-duration periods that add up to at least 15 minutes during a 24-hour period. For example, if in the 2 days before the infected person had symptoms or tested positive, someone had three 5-minute interactions with the infected person within a 24-hour period, that person would be considered a close contact.
•
• New loss of taste or smell
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• STAY HOME
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) defines a “close contact” as someone who shared the same indoor airspace as a person who has COVID-19 (e.g., in a home, airplane, camp, class, drop-in activity, bathroom, locker room or lobby/waiting area) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period while the case was considered contagious.
