SUNNYVALE RECREATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Are you ready for summer? We are! Our Sunnyvale Library and Recreation Services team continues to work hard to provide a variety of safe classes and activities to keep you and your family healthy and engaged. I am excited to join the amazing Library and Recreation team and assist with providing the Sunnyvale community some enriching summer opportunities. There is so much to celebrate, I wanted to share a few things: The 37th annual Hands on the Arts Festival is being combined this year with our newest event, Sunnyvale Cultural Celebration. Check out the inside cover of this guide for more information. Explore the Camp Sunnyvale Splash brochure to find 85+ summer camps for kids 3-17. Choose full day or half day options in traditional, arts, sports, STEM and teen leadership. There is something for everyone! You can also find swim lesson schedules for ages 6 months to adults. Register now to reserve your spot! Recreation Swim is scheduled to open June 13 at Columbia Middle School Pool and the NEW Washington Community Swim Center. See page “Recreation Swim Locations and Hours” on page 9 for hours and information. We are planning our Fair Oaks Park Grand Reopening, which includes the Magical Bridge Inclusive Playground, Sunnyvale’s first synthetic sports fields, a new dog park and fantastic public art. We are also gearing up for construction of the new Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center, in anticipation of the 2024 grand opening. Be on the lookout for utility boxes in (and around) Downtown Sunnyvale, while they are transformed as part of the Great Box Cover Up! 12 artists have been selected to execute original works of art using City-owned utility boxes as canvases. Follow us at Sunnyvale Recreation to see our artists in action! Picnic areas are now available to rent. Baylands Parking Day and Season Passes are also on sale. Our goal is to create experiences and spaces for everyone in our community. Please feel free to send us your program ideas and questions at recreation@sunnyvale.ca.gov. Sincerely, Michelle Perera Director of Library and Recreation Services Summer 2022 | Message from Sunnyvale Recreation
