ond star Daniel Craig is not your typical Hollywood movie star, although he has been voted the sexiest name in the world and has a glamorous movie star wife, the lovely Rachel Weiz he seems the sort of chap who would prefer to stay at home then attend celebrity laden gala’s and openings.

Born in November 1968 and inspired by his mothers love for the theatre, his mother spent a lot of time at the city’s famously leftwing Everyman Theatre, when in its heyday Bernard Hill, Julie Walters, Willy Russell and Alan Bleasdale, strutted the boards. The young Daniel would sit and soak up the atmosphere of the Green Room, enjoying the larger-than-life camaraderie and it was this, and seeing the familiar faces on TV, that convinced Daniel that he wanted to become an actor. Daniel Craig is a fine modern example of how things can turn out for the best, after graduating from Guildhall School of Music & Drama he went on to achieve uproarious success of the series Our Friends In The North, he was cast by the tabloids as tough northern totty. Stereotyping TV offers came flooding in, lifestyle magazines were constantly knocking at his door everything was set for his to become TV’s macho eye candy. Instead, loathing this trivial publicity, he turned down TV offers and walked away with his eyes set on a more glittering prize.

He went on to hone his craft in a series of arthouse and European productions, entering the mainstream only when a part demanded deep emotional exploration and eventually, inevitably, his remarkable intensity saw him recognised at the highest levels. First Sam Mendes snapped him up to star alongside Tom Hanks and Paul Newman in Road To Perdition, then it was the turn of Steven Spielberg in Munich and then James Bond. Daniel Craig is the grittiest of all the greatlooking men who have played James Bond over the last five decades. He has also brought a dark and somewhat sinister side to Bond in an interview in 2011 he stated “The question I keep asking myself while playing the role is, am I the good guy or just a bad guy who works for the good side? - Bond’s role, after all, is that of an assassin when you come down to it”. In October we were treated to the third instalment of Daniel Craig as Bond in SKYFALL the 23rd Bond film of the franchise which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the series, and in its first week it has broken the box office taking a staggering $20.1 million and the critics called him Bland Bond - I think the public disagrees!!! A Cultural City...

alaga City is not just the entry and exit point of the Costa del Sol for us expatriates, it is also the birth place of some very famous Spaniards. The most famous has to be Pablo Ruiz Picasso, known as Pablo Picasso, the famous artists know for his painting, sculptures and ceramics who was born on the 25th October 1881. Picasso is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is widely known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907), and Guernica (1937), a portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. It is little wonder then that the people of Malaga are proud of the fact that Picasso was born there and it was a celebratory day when the King and Queen of Spain inaugurated the Museo Picasso (Picasso Museum) on the 27th October 2003. The museum is located right in the heart of the Historic Centre of the city, with the dramatic backdrop of the Alcazaba Fortress and Gibralfaro Castle close by, and is literally two minutes walking distance from Malaga Cathedral, the magnificent old building has been painstakingly restored to befit the importance of the works of the great artist, and houses 285 works donated by members of Picasso’s family, the largest donation was by Christine Ruiz-Picasso, widow of the artist’s eldest son Paul Ruiz-Picasso she donated 14 paintings, 9 sculptures, 44 individual drawings, a sketchbook with a further 36 drawings, 58 engravings, and 7 ceramic pieces, 133 works in all. Her son, Picasso’s grandson, Bernard Ruiz-Picasso donated another 5 paintings, 2 drawings, 10 engravings, and 5 ceramics.

The collection ranges from early academic studies to cubism to his late re-workings of Old Masters. Many additional pieces are on long-term loan to the museum. There is also a library and archive including over 800 titles on Picasso, as well as relevant documents and photographs.

Aston’s luxurious Toyota-based new city car is not without appeal to the rich and open-minded By Steve Cropley

f there was a prize for the daftest car to be launched so far this century, the new Aston Martin Cygnet would have to be a strong contender. This, at least, is what most people who buy city cars will think.

For most of them small means cheap, and the Cygnet breaks every rule. At £30,995 the baby Aston costs more than double the price of the £12,500 Toyota that donated all its major components: body, chassis, suspension, engine transmission. For the extra cost you get a proper Aston paint-job, a superb hand-fitted and bespoke interior (with as many leather hides in it as are needed to trim a DB9), a series of body mods that give the Cygnet its own visual identity (including a superb extruded aluminum grille) and the magic of the Aston Martin name.

What’s it like? The Cygnet is quite different from any other Aston Martin. At just three meters it is the 62

smallest Aston in history. It is its first dedicated city car, and it is probably the slowest Aston in modern times, achieving just 106 mph flat out, and sprinting from 0-60 mph in 11.5 seconds more than twice the time it takes any other contemporary Aston. Why do we need it? First, because Aston realizes that many of its owners also need nippy inner-city transport, and would enjoy driving a luxurious baby Aston if there were one available. Second, because tough taxes are coming for manufacturers of thirsty cars; the Cygnet’s combined consumption of 54 mpg, plus its modest 120g/km CO2 output, help counterbalance Aston’s monsters. In the flesh, the car is impressive. The Aston paint process gives it a glass-like paint finish (they use the same finishing techniques as for a £150,000 Aston) and once you sample the comfort of the hand-finished interior, with every surface covered either in handbag-quality leather, Alcantara or first-quality carpet, you start to see the millionaire’s case for the Cygnet.

The major components may be by Toyota, but the see-touch-feel details are Aston’s own, things like new instrument graphics, special metal inner door handles, a superb polished alloy gear-gate, a bespoke alloy shift lever, and lots more. On the road, unsurprisingly, the car is all Toyota iQ, quietened somewhat by its denser trim. Even the tyre sizes are Toyato iQ, though the wheels (standard eight-spoke alloys or an optional 16-spoke set) are designed in Aston’s own studios. The 97bhp four-cylinder engine feels and sounds energetic up to 50-60 mph. The optional CVT transmission gives easy stepoff at traffic lights. In this car it it’s a much better option in a city car than any fiddly five-speeder. The Cygnet can produce a quite refined cruising performance on motorways if necessary; though passing performance isn’t its forte. The steering is feather-light and nicely accurate. If you haven’t sampled a Toyata iQ you’ll be surprised by the sheer pleasure that flows from using its scooter-like turning circle.

Should I buy one? Depends who you are. If you’re rich and are open to the concept of a luxurious little city car that can be selected from options list of a new Aston supercar, you may love the Cygnet. Around 400 people, nearly all big Aston owners, have already ordered one, and the company reckons it can sell 1500 a year. If you’re not one of these people, don’t worry about it.

However the compact concept hasn’t just been embraced within the automobile industry the pet industry which is worth an estimated € 96 million a year, has also adapted and a new breed of pets have been born with the emergence of the “Micro-Pet”.

Below we take a look at some of the smallest and cutest micro-pets Micro pigs make brilliant pets - they are intelligent, affectionate, can be house-trained and learn their names. They need a large garden, should be kept in pairs and can live for 18 years. Falabella miniature horses are intelligent, easily trained pets. They can only be ridden by very small children. Pygmy hedgehogs not your most conventional but were last yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s must-have pet. They are similar to a hamster in that they are nocturnal, enjoy exercise wheels and live for three to five years. They are different because they are carnivorous and prickly. otogrande is the largest privately owned residential development in Andalusia. Originally a gated community, it is located in the municipality of San Roque, Cádiz, Spain, southern Europe and stretches over 4,400 acres of sun blessed shoreline beaches with cork tree forests and fertile land areas open up to considerate urban developments. Sotogrande was established by Joseph Rafael McMicking an American and his Filipino wife Mercedes Zobel de Ayala y Roxas, both came from considerably rich stock and the war in the Pacific had devastated their family legacy, after the war they set about redeveloping their depleted estates and through determined effort and good social contacts, they not only recovered but also surpassed even the richest of other wealthy heritage in there native land. The couple, having seen the idyllic coasts of Spain decided to bring there wealth of considerable experience and in 1962, bought five neighboring farms with the idea of creating a luxurious residential development by the Mediterranean. MacMicking succeeded in creating what has now become one of the most

luxurious urbanizations in Europe, in May 2006 it was featured in The Times as having the most expensive homes in Europe. The jet set appeal of Sotogrande lies in the natural beauty of the site, enhanced by the early landscaping, planting of avenues of palm and conifer trees, underground infrastructure and wide, two-lane roads. Today, Sotogrande is renowned for its varied sporting facilities. It has five golf courses; Valderrama Golf Club hosts to the European Tour’s Volvo Masters and the 1997 Ryder Cup, the Club Real de Golf, Almenara, La Reserva, La Cañada. The port of Sotogrande serves to berth some of the finest yachts. It offers boats for charter, boats to travel around the predominant shores of the Costa del Sol and those of Africa, and boats to travel out to watch the shoals of the intelligent marine life of dolphins and whales. There are beach clubs, such as El Octogono and El Cucurucho, who provide activities for children where sport equipment can be rented for a day of fun such as jet skis, canoes, and kayaks.

The other sport that is well known in Sotogrande is Polo. Sotogrande is home to the Santa Maria Polo Club which attracts the best known athletes of this equestrian sport. It also attracts the wealthy and powerful families that participate in this fabulous sport, Prince Charles Prince William and Prince Harry are to name but a few.
